Vapourising liquid causes rapid cooling and contact may cause cold-burns or frostbite. Inhalation: The vapour is discomforting to the upper respiratory tract and may be harmful if inhaled. Material is highly volatile and may quickly form a concentrated atmosphere in confined or unventilated areas. Vapour is heavier than air and may displace and replace air in breath zone, acting as a simple asphyxiant. This may happen with little warning of overexposure. Ingestion: Considered an unlikely route of entry in commercial/industrial environments. The liquid is highly discomforting and is toxic if swallowed in large quantities. Ingestion may result in nausea, pain or vomiting. Effects of Chronic Exposure: Principal routes of exposure are usually by inhalation of vapour and skin contact/absorptions. Prolonged or continuous skin contact with the liquid may cause defatting with drying, cracking, irritation and dermatitis following. Fluorocarbons can cause an increase risk of cancer, spontaneous abortion and birth defects.
