Bern 2016: a nice competition, organised with a lot of mastery! The option of doing the draw after the nominative registrations was a good initiative. For the two categories, only one team has withdrawn before the competition and the individuals have stayed stable, which has allowed a very smooth running of the qualifications. As always, we have been able to appreciate the professionalism of the technicians from Spieth as well as of the Swiss Timing team. Their cooperation is precious for us. Thank you to everybody. Our thanks also to: - The UEG staff, always present, ready to reply to our solicitations, and who also do an enormous work of preparation before the competition. - The UEG officials for their support. We had the help of Karsten Struck (GER) for our presentations during the judges course and used his skills in the preparation of the documents for this course. Thank you to Karsten for all the accomplished work, for his availability and his help, we deeply hope that this cooperation will continue. The documents used for the judges course will be put on the UEG website so that all the judges can use this training tool. The entire competitions were run under very good conditions, with an attentive and knowledgeable public. A big thank you too all the numerous helpers for their competence and goodwill. The sun wasn t with us but it was considerably counterbalanced by the warmth of the welcome which we enjoyed during the entire week. To all our gymnasts on the road to Rio: all my best wishes of success. The following report, made by the WTC includes also a comparative analysis of the D and E scores as well as some composition requirements for the cycle 2013-2016. Page 2

Comments In 2010 the gold medals were shared only between three (3) federations. The distribution has been fairer in the following years as in 2012 six (6) federations, in 2014 and 2016 five (5) federations returned home with at least one gold medal. The dominant countries are nearly the same every year, but in 2016 the biggest winner was FRA who in 2012 and 2014 went home without medals, but in 2016 took 3 medals. General Organisation The competition venue PostFinance-Arena and the training halls in Bernexpo were located along the tramline from the different hotels and any transportation were not needed. The competition schedules were held under excellent conditions. The competition CI Juniors and Seniors were organized in 4 subdivisions. The competition schedules were respected. The award ceremonies were held according to the protocol. The access and accreditations controls were carried out by the security service. Page 8

D-Panel D1-judges were drawn by the UEG/WTC in Bratislava on 19.11.2015 among those with FIG Brevet category I. They belonged to BEL, ESP, FRA, GBR D2-judges were drawn by the UEG/WTC after the definitive registration (03.03.2016), in Bern on 01.04.2016 among those with FIG Brevet category I, II and III. RJ remained at the same apparatus throughout the entire competition in Juniors and in Seniors, except for C-III in case of non-neutrality caused by the participation of gymnasts representing their own NF. DRAW JUNIORS 32 NF Competition I and II The draw was done horizontally. PRINCIPLES D, R and E Judges in the same panel represented different NF Out for the first draw: - NF having already designated positions as D2 or RJ (reference) - NF without competitors in Seniors Judges with category 4 were drawn only for Assistant positions Draw for the E-panel: 22 NF for 20 places in E-panel + 2 Reserve judges Draw for the 7 positions of Assitant: 3 NF with D2 position + 3 NF with category 4 judges + 1 NF without competitors in Senior competition Competition IV Same as C-I, except the priority given to the 2 Reserve judges Competition III The draw was done horizontally. PRINCIPLES D, RJ and E Judges in the same panel represented different NF NF with competitors and first reserve in C-III all finals, were withdrawn One RJ with competitors in the same apparatus was switched with one RJ from another apparatus E-panel: 20 NF for 20 places Draw: priority for the NF with competitors in 1, 2 or 3 finals, to insure a neutral place Draw: the rest of the NF (all neutral) Draw for the 2 positions of Reserve judge from the NF which had D2 position Draw for the 7 positions of Assitant: rest of 2 NF with D2 position + 3 NF with category 4 + 2 judges from NF which already have a position but are neutral, to complete all Judges Instruction WTC prepared another new, interesting instruction, after an interactive concept, with the help of Karsten Struck (judge GER), presented to the WTC by our colleague Sabrina Klaesberg. He prepared the platform called Magic Wall in powerpoint and the WTC provided the material to be inserted. They were divided by teams, having to answer to questions concerning the code of points, analysis and scores of exercises at every apparatus, all of that leading to win or lose precious points. At the end there was also a ranking. The judges received very well the new way of instruction. Page 11
