Connector Block Supplement for the Advanced IV Arm Skin and Vein Replacement Kit Tubing Adapter Replacement Tubing White Tubing Connectors Your Life/form replacement kit includes eight tubing adapters. The tubing in this kit has been improved to provide longer vein life and easier customer installation. If the connector block in your IV arm has black tubing connectors, you already have the improved tubing and may discard the eight replacement tubing adapters and proceed with normal tubing replacement. If the connector block on your IV arm has two black and eight white tubing connectors, you will need to use the new adapters included in the kit. To connect the new adapters, simply slide the eight adapters over the connectors after the old veins have been removed. After you are finished connecting the new adapters, proceed with the vein replacement as described in the instruction manual. Note: The new tubing adapters may be left connected to the connector block during future vein replacements. You do not need to replace these after they have been installed. Removing the Arm Skin and Veins A. To remove the skin from the arm, open the tie at the top of the arm. Then, coat the exterior skin lightly with the lubricant and strip off the skin so that it will be inside out when you finish. Now remove the muscle piece located over the connection block. B. Remove the old veins from the grooves, unplug them from the connector block, and discard them. 1

Replacing the Vein Tubing A. Figure 1 shows how the four vein tubing sections should be connected to the connector block. The tube fittings are not shown. Note: All diagrams have been color coded for illustration purposes only. The latex veins you received with your kit are all the same color and length and may be used interchangeably. Figure 1 Figure 2 B. Refer to Figure 2 (Red). Plug one end of tubing into fitting #1. Note: A small amount of lubricant or water will make it easier to slide the tubing over the connector. Also, the plastic wrap around the tubing may need to be pulled back from the end of the tubing 1 2". Work the tubing completely into the channel over the back of the arm, around the third finger from the inside, and back over the arm in the same channel. Connect the end of the tubing into fitting #4. Veins may be trimmed with scissors if necessary for a good fit; just make sure that the connector block is back in its correct location within the core and that the tubing is not kinked, pinched, or too tightly stretched. Slight pinching in the finger area is normal and will not obstruct blood flow. 2

Figure 3 C. Refer to Figure 3 (Green). Plug one end of the tubing into fitting #2. Press the tubing into the channel, around the loop near the wrist, and back to the connector block at fitting #3. Figure 4 D. Refer to Figure 4 (Yellow). Plug one end of the tubing into fitting #7. Work it into the channel down the forearm, around the palm side of the thumb, and back toward the connector block in the same channel. Pass the tubing over the first section of green tubing and under the second section (refer to diagram above). Connect the tubing to fitting #5. 3

Figure 5 E. Refer to Figure 5 (Blue). Plug one end of the tubing into fitting #6. Tuck it under the green tubing, then continue to press it into the channel, taking extra care to minimize pinching in the loops around the two fingers and the back of the hand. Run the tubing under the red tubing and over both lengths of yellow tubing before connecting to fitting #8. F. Double check that all the tubing is in the correct channel and free of kinks or other obstructions. Check that all fitting connections are as tight as possible to prevent leaks. Reassembling the Arm A. Feed the inlet/outlet tube through the large channel and out the hole in the upper arm. Replace the muscle pad over it. B. Pour the remaining lubricant into the skin, allowing lubricant to run down the sides. Squeeze the skin between extended hands. Work your hands back and forth, up and down the skin to coat the inside of the skin thoroughly. 4

D. Grasping the skin with both hands as illustrated, slide the skin down over the core until the fingers are approaching the finger holes. (Caution: work the skin on gently pulling hard on the end of the skin can stretch or tear the material.) As the skin is worked down over the core, be sure that the tubing remains in the channels. E. Guide the fingers and thumb carefully into the proper holes. Mistakes can be corrected by sliding the skin back an inch or two from the fingers and beginning again. If air has been trapped in the fingertips, make a small vent hole beneath the fingernail with a 22-gauge needle. 5

F. After the fingers are positioned in the hand, slide the skin over the remainder of the core to provide a snug fit. G. Feel along the tubing channel to make sure that the tubing is correctly seated. Tubing that has moved can usually be moved back into position by working on the outside of the skin. 6

H. Feed the inlet/outlet tubing through the skin to the outside. I. Adjust the skin over the upper shoulder and retie the lace to hold it in position. Rinse the lubricant from the skin with warm water. If the skin stretches slightly during use, it can be tightened by retying the lace. 7
