Adult Programs Wonder Woman Rain Barrel Workshop We ll be screening Patty Jenkins s Wonder Woman in the park this fall at Peterson Park. Pizza 51 pizza will be available by the slice. Fairway is hosting local Green Initiative group Bridging the Gap for a rain barrel seminar. Participation fee includes barrel and all necessary materials. Learn how these barrels can improve the health of your property and save money on your water bill! Outdoor Fitness Class Core Fitness Class This class is geared towards all fitness levels. It will be a total body workout with an emphasis on cardio, strength training, and nutrition. If raining, classes will meet in the multipurpose room. Instructor and Fairway resident Kara Tilden is certified by the American Council on Exercise. Outdoor Fitness Class I Dates: Sept. 5th-28th Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays Time: 8:00-9:00 am Fitness classes continue indefinitely with varied schedules and course fees. Adult Programs Chair Yoga Chair Yoga is instructed by Shannon Basham and is designed to provide almost anyone the opportunity to be involved in a gentle form of Yoga. It focuses on the joints and muscles to increase flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination. Fairway Resident Gayle Martin, with 29 years of Yoga teaching experience, will lead this class. Class size is limited to 12 people so register early! Participants must bring their own mat to class. Classes take place on Thursdays. Prana Flow Prana Flow (TM) is a refinement of vinyasa flow developed by Shiva Rae which warms and opens the student through a series of waves culminating in a peak pose and then gently coming back to earth and stillness. This style is adaptable through the use of krama so each participant can go to their own edge. Class includes flow sequences, core work, standing poses, balance poses, and attempts at pretzeling. Playful attitude encouraged. Bring your mat! Adult Programs Holiday Trolley Trip Bright Nights Contest Jump aboard a heated trolley and help judge the Bright Nights with Holiday Lights Contest. Then sit back and enjoy the lights of the Country Club Plaza. We ll provide hot chocolate and cookies to keep you toasty warm during the ride. Any rider under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The trip has a capacity of 28 people! Dates: Dec. 9th Time: 6:00-8:00 pm Fee: $10 per rider A minimum registration is required. Please pre-register! Do you and your friends decorate your homes for the holiday season? If so, you can be a part of Fairway s Bright Nights with Holiday Lights Contest! You can nominate yourself or a friend. This year s categories include: Best Overall and Best Street. The Best Overall winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to a Fairway Restaurant. Enter or nominate a friend by enrolling for free via the registration portal. Entries are due by December 8th. Judging will take place on December 9th. Winners will be announced the week of December 11th. Doubles Tennis with Bill Guilfoil A weekly Adult doubles tennis program will be introduced at the Fairway tennis this fall. A meeting will be held on August 28th to determine the schedule moving forward. The program will be led by Bill Guilfoil, a tennis pro, and tennis legend, here in the Kansas City area. No need to bring a partner, just your racquet and a desire to have a fun night of playing tennis and meeting some new tennis friends! Shawnee Indian Mission Music and Movement Movie at the Mission Join us for another series of music and movement with your little ones at the Mission. Katie Petrucci of Echo Music Studio will be teaching throughout the fall! Echo Music classes offer songs and activities that have been passed down through generations! Our activities help children develop a tuneful voice, a rhythmic sense of beat and expressive movement through dance, and refine their listening skills, all while bonding with their caretaker as we develop their musical abilities and holistic growth. Shawnee Indian Mission Intuitive Acrylic Painting Classes With artist and art instructor Lisa Doffing, we'll be exploring relaxing and surprising painting techniques based on an intuitive and playful approach where acrylic paints in bold colors are layered and applied to create surprising pieces of art. Open your eyes to a new way of letting go on canvas and join in playful artistic camaraderie. Acrylic Painting Classes Dates: Sept. 14th, Sept. 21st Time: 6:30-8:30pm Cost: $45 for full course ses- Meet The Artist Series Spend an evening at the historic Shawnee Indian Mission with three of the local artists who are making Kansas City such a vibrant arts community. While enjoying a glass of wine or a beer and light hors d oeuvres, visit with the artists, hear their stories and view their works. Per Lecture Fees: $25 Individual $40 Couple Katrina Revenaugh From Grafitti to High Art Date: Oct. 28th Time: 5:00-7:00 pm With her work, Katrina hopes the viewer appreciates graffiti and street art in a whole new way. She photographs it, extracts little bits and pieces from the shots and uses them like found objects to create layered abstract collages and patterns on wood, metal or fabric with a very painterly quality. The essence of the graffiti is still there, but it s a totally reimagined piece. Marcus Dowty From Photograph to Art Date: Sept. 30th Time: 5:00-7:00 pm World travels have taken Marcus to six of the seven continents and ninety four countries. Using the camera lens to filter the exposure of an event, Marcus focuses on the more important story. His portfolio truly reflects images of a path less taken. Nancy Oglesby Finding Your Inner Artist Through Alcohol Painting Date: Nov. 11th Time: 5:00-7:00 pm Growing up in a home surrounded by art, Nancy discovered at an early age that she had inherited her father s eye for all things beautiful. Her delight has been in experimenting with many diverse forms of artistic expression. Nancy s joy now is in alcohol painting on tiles, where she can coax this very fluid medium into works full of movement and life.

Shawnee Indian Mission Holiday Open House Christmas Tree Sale Join us for a holiday open house from 10am to 4pm featuring children s crafts, musical performances, refreshments and free admission. The Mission will be decorated for the holidays, the Christmas trees will be available for sale and it s a perfect time to get in the holiday spirit at our historic site! The annual Christmas Tree Sale starts on November 24th. 100% of proceeds used to benefit the Shawnee Indian Mission Foundation and Boy Scout Troop 192. Sale continues until all trees are sold! Greenery and wreaths also available for purchase. This event courtesy of the Shawnee Indian Mission Foundation and Johnson County Young Matrons. Date: Dec. 2nd Time: 10:00am-4:00pm Fee: Free 4th Annual Canes, Cocoa, and a Claus Bring your flashlight to participate in a candy cane hunt in the Christmas Tree Forest for children ages 10 and under. Parents must accompany their children on the candy cane hunt. Afterward, head indoors where children will be provided a Christmas tree ornament to decorate and take home. Finish off your holiday themed evening with a chat and photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus! Date: Dec. 8th Time: 6:00-8:00pm Cost: Free and open to the public!

Youth Programs Smart Start Soccer Get a leg up on the competition with this developmentally appropriate soccer program! Under the direction of an instructor certified by the National Youth Sports Administration, participants ages 3-5 will work with a parent to learn kicking, dribbling, throw ins, trapping, and agility. Treats will be provided at each practice, and all participants will receive a soccer ball to keep! Who always pays their taxes? (NOT BATMAN!) Touch A Truck Get an up-close and personal view of the Police cars, maintenance trucks and heavy-duty vehicles we use everyday at the City of Fairway! Consolidated Fire District #2 will be bringing a firetruck and MedAct of Johnson County will have an ambulance on display. This is a great opportunity for kids to touch, explore and ask questions about their favorite vehicles. Apple cider and doughnuts available for purchase Our popular Movie in the Park series continues this fall with 2017 s The Lego Batman Movie. The free screening will begin at 8:15pm. Come out early for a good spot!

Youth Programs Halloween Clay Workshop Get in the spirit of the season with this spooky Halloween themed clay workshop. Participants will create a ceramic Jack O Lantern. All materials will be provided, and clay will be fired and available for pickup before the following week, just in time for display during trick or treating! Dates: Oct. 18, Oct. 19 Location: MPR Time: 5:00-7:30pm Cost: $35 per session Ages: 10 and up Trail of Tricks and Treats Our annual event returns on October 29th with expanded hours. We create a huge trail in the green space at Peterson Park with lots of games and activities for youngsters to trick-or-treat safely and show off those spooky costumes. Admission includes access to the trail, two glow sticks (one for Halloween Night), hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, drinks and lots of great carnival games. Please, no dogs on the trail. Dates: October 29th Time: 4:00-7:00pm Cost: $3 for ALL guests entering the park area. Cash only! Tennis Lessons Fairway is continuing its partnership with Woodside Health and Tennis Club to provide youth tennis lessons during the fall with a special rate unlocked for Fairway Parks and Recreation registrants. A variety of options are available, with session times on weekday evenings and over the weekend. Classes start on September 5th, with a registration deadline of August 31st. Visit the registration portal for more information, or call 913-262-0350 ext. 3. Thanksgiving Fitness Camp Dates: Nov. 20, Nov. 21, Nov. 22 Time: 10:00am-2:00pm Ages: 8-13 We've added a new camp! If your kids are looking for something to do during the Thanksgiving Break, sign them up for our Thanksgiving Fitness Camp! Fitness instructor Kara Tilden will lead the kids in fun, kid friendly routines aimed at making fitness fun. The kids will also participate in fitness games and crafts. Shelter Reservations Facility Rentals Additional facility photos may be viewed online at: http://fairway.recdesk.com/recdeskportal/facilities MPR Rentals Large Shelter Rentals Half Day 9:00 am - 2:00 pm $25/$40 or 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm $25/$40 Full Day 9:00 am - 8:00 pm $40/$55 Reserve the Large Shelter at Peterson Park on-line anytime! The Large Shelter is open for first come, first serve use unless reserved. The Small Shelter is always open first come, first served. Temporary alcohol beverage permits are available. The Multipurpose Room (MPR) at the Fairway Pool has rental availability year-round with a capacity of up to 60 people based on room set up. With the exception of pool season, the Snack Bar area as well as the Trellis area (poolside) may be added to a reservation package. Each half of the MPR can be reserved with a capacity of 20-25 based on room set up and includes its own sink and counter space. Use of tables and chairs is included in the rental fee. Renters are responsible for their set up and clean up of the space. Temporary alcoholic beverage permits are available. MPR Rentals First two hours $60 Each additional hour $25 Various rental options are available to fit your needs at this 12 acre historic site managed by the City of Fairway. The Reverend Thomas Johnson Chapel is a functional space with a rental capacity of 50 people. The North building conference room is also available for your next corporate event. Use of the full facility grounds are subject to Parks and Recreation Director approval.
