Industry Tours: 8/7/13: Industry Tour of Goodwill Retail Super Store On August 7, 2013, a group of 5 youth in Spring Hill attended an industry tour of the Spring Hill Goodwill Retail Store. This tour was coordinated due to the youth s interest in the open positions that Goodwill had available. During this tour the store manager took the youth throughout the different departments and explained how the donations come in from the warehouse and are moved to various sites. Youth were also shown the back of the store where they were able to observe current employees doing a variety of different job tasks. Youth were able to see donations being accepted, items being readied for the floor and how items are sorted. At the conclusion of this tour all of the youth in attendance were able to fill out applications for open positions and have an on the spot interview. 8/9/13: Industry Tour of WUSF Studios On Friday August 9 th 2013, a group of 6 WIA Youth were able to participate in a unique experience: an industry tour at WUSF Public Television broadcasting studios at the University of South Florida. Director of Production Jorge Cunha led the group into a television studio, where he explained a little bit about the Television Production industry. To the surprise of everyone, once inside the huge set, he randomly assigned a job to each youth. They were filled with even greater excitement when they were taken to the production lab and shown the video they had just made of themselves. The group was then given a tour of all the different offices in the building, and got to see the many different types of jobs that are involved in the television industry: everything from advertising and marketing to music and graphic design. Mr. Cunha concluded the tour by saying they would send each youth a copy of the video they had made as a memento of their first experience on a real TV set, and welcomed them all to contact him for advice or questions. This group of young people got a behind the scenes look at an interesting career field, and perhaps fueled a little inspiration and passion for this industry, all thanks to WIA Youth New Port Richey.
Pasco-Hernando Workforce Board, Inc. Pharmaworks Summer Youth Update Manufacturing Pilot Summer Youth Pharmaworks and PHWB joined forces to formulate a pilot program for 10 15 high school and college internship program students. This program began with the summer program. Students gained the MSSC certification by going through the Manufacturing s MSSC CPT curriculum. Students rotated through 6 different disciplines in the company, spending a week at each one. For 2 hours of each day, the students collaborated together (team building) in order to work on their capstone project, which was a simulator that would involve design, procurement, machining, assembly, programming, test/debug and then final/formal presentation. 3185 Premier Drive, Brooksville, Florida 34604 Phone: 352-593-2222 Fax: 352-593-2200 www.careercentral.jobs
