Hi Folks NEWSLETTER 2017 Just Rock Ipswich News PRESIDENT S REPORT Our Dinner Dance is over for another year. Everybody looked Bev Watter absolutely fabulous all gussied up in their roaring twenties gear. President 2017- The band was great and played a lot of our favourite dance tunes with a few of their own thrown in for good measure. Meal was good, but I must apologise, I forgot to ask the caterer to put out tea and coffee for us. A big thank you to Janet for shopping for our lucky door prizes which were excellent as the people who won them will attest too. My thanks also go to Mick & Janet, Luke & Narelle, Debie and Allen Zahnow for help in setting up our venue for the dinner dance. Hopefully next year we will have a committee to organise this annual function. There will be no lessons on 6th November as that night we have a general meeting followed by our AGM. It would be good if everybody attended so you can have a say as to who will be on the committee for the next year. This year some of the committee members held 2 or 3 positions. This is not a good situation, because if a said member for some reason or another had to step down more than one position would have to be filled. At this AGM it would be great if all positions could be filled by individual members. If you are thinking of having a go at any position, you will get as much support as you need to fulfil the position. Think about it. There will be lessons on 13th November and 27th November. Monday 20th November we will have Little Stevie providing the music for our social. Our last Saturday night dance for the year is 2nd December. Our last lesson night is 4th December and to finish off the year will be the energetic Johnny Gray on the 11th December. Wear something that has a Christmas theme. Did you know: An average person will walk the equivalent of four laps around the world in their lifetime. A Dog s life: The pug is living proof that God has a sense of humour. Keep on dancing: Cheers Bev 2017 CLUB ENTERTAINMENT PAGE 6
NEWSLETTER 2017 2 VP CAR CRUISE REPORT Hi JRI Cruisers The October breakfast cruise went very well with very good attendance (25 people for breakfast). We departed from Hunter Street, Brassall at 9:00am and head off for an easy drive up to Scotty s Garage and Barn. We all enjoyed a very nice buffet breakfast provided by the friendly staff at the Barn. After breakfast some of us visited Scotty s Garage which was a really great experience. There were lots of old cars, bikes and associated memorabilia, and a wonderful full diner setup which was absolutely awesome to see. Scotty even allowed us to park some of the cars near the bowsers for a great photo opportunity, many thanks to Scotty and his wonderful staff. Thanks to Stacey and Rob for organising the cruise and to everybody who attended for another enjoyable day. The next cruise will be the JRI Observation Cruise on Sunday 19th of November 2017. We will meet at Queens Park Carpark (behind the animal nursery) at 8:30am for a 9:00am departure. Please bring a Clipboard, biro/pencil, morning tea, sunscreen and chairs, lunch will be at a country pub. Start organising our classic or plastic cars and your observing passengers for a fun day out. Sign-on sheet will be at lesson nights or an event will be created on the JRI Facebook page where you can add your name. Hope everybody is enjoying life and looking forward to catching up with everybody at dancing or the next car cruise Cheers Greg VP Car Cruise organiser.
NEWSLETTER 2017 3 Hello Dancers, VP DANCE REPORT There has only been 3 lesson nights this month and all have been well attended, especially the Stage One class. Bad weather caused the dance demonstration at Swifts grounds to be postponed until next year. The Social Dance night with Johnny Gray was as usual a fun evening for dancing and socialising. Johnny and others agree that if the lift was operational it would make their work a lot easier. Sound gear can be very heavy. Bev did a fantastic job of organising the Dinner Dance at the Ipswich Showgrounds. Nearly all of those who attended dressed up in Roaring 20 s outfits. Some of the band members joined in. Lots of good food, cool drinks and an air-conditioned venue paved the way for a full dance floor most of the time. Little Stevie is the entertainer for the November Social dance on the 20th. and the Tail Fins will entertain us on the 2nd December Saturday Night Christmas Dance. No lessons on the 6th of November as members will be having a general meeting followed by the AGM.
