ARK LA TEX PAINT HORSE CLUB 4 Time Gold Star Club 1999 & 2001 APHA President s Club Of Distinction 2000 & 2002 President s Club Of Distinction Honorable Mention ******************************************************************************************************************* Seasons Greetings of the time we spend with our horses is usually a lot less glamorous. Yet, if the time you spend with your horses is anything like mine, some of the funniest, most frustrating, and/or most triumphant moments are witnessed only by the other horses in the barn. Likewise, some of our most significant accomplishments may earn no points of the sort that APHA records, but they feel just as grand when we have them. So, if you have tales to tell that will make us laugh, cry, or applaud please send them to me. If there are other things that you would like to see added to the newsletter please let me know. It is hard to believe that the 2006 show season has come and gone and folks are already starting to think about who to show, where to show, and of course what to wear to show, in 2007. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, however, on behalf of the Ark-La-Tex Paint Horse Club, I want to thank our members and sponsors for their participation in and contributions to the 2006 shows. Likewise, on behalf of the members and participants in the shows, a big thanks to the Officers and Directors, past and present, for their service to the club and its members. The success of the Ark-La-Tex shows is the product of a tremendous collective effort and everyone deserves a pat on the back for their part in that effort. The Ark-La-Tex PHC appreciates the efforts of everyone who works diligently for the club. The club would not be what it is today without their work. I am pleased to contribute to the work of the club in 2007 by writing the newsletters. It is always risky to ask an English professor to write anything because we are inclined to be a bit long-winded. Nonetheless, I will do my very best to keep you all up to date about what s going on and where and when. Please note that starting with the next newsletter we will be discontinuing the practice of mailing newsletters to all members as a matter of course. Instead, newsletters will be posted on the website http://www.arklatexphc.com. Why this craziness you ask? We hope that this will save both time and expense and, best of all, make it possible to produce more frequent newsletters. However, we recognize that some members might prefer to continue receiving hard copies of the newsletter and we are more than happy to oblige. So here s the deal. If you DO want to continue receiving a hard copy of the newsletter please email or call me and I will make sure that you continue to receive your newsletter via snail mail. Otherwise, we ll assume that everyone will read the newsletters online. In the interest of personalizing the newsletter, I would like to add a section to future publications. The section will be called something like Challenges and Triumphs unless I (or any of you) can come up with something more creative. Although most of us see each other only at shows when we are all gussied up in sequins and finery and our horses are spit-shined with more makeup than I ve ever owned in my life, the bulk On behalf of the Ark-La-Tex Paint Horse Club, I d like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season and a fabulous 2007. See you next year in the show pen! Contact lgtucker@saumag.edu (870) 786-9189 (before 9 p.m. only please) Volunteers Needed We need some volunteers to help out in the following areas. Terri Howell and Kim Martin are going to order the buckles for next year, Jerry Lynn Liles is going to manage the March 24 th show, and Donnie Carson will keep points for 2007. However, we still need someone to organize the 2008 Banquet and to act as Show Manager for the May 19 th show. Please contact one of the officers ASAP if you are willing to take on either of these responsibilities. Those who have done these jobs in the past are more than willing to help you. Thanks in advance for stepping up. 2007 Officers and Directors President: Camille Lyons Vice President: Sue Woodson Secretary: Nancy Westerlage Treasurer: Mary Parrott Scholarship Contact: Camille Lyons High Point Keeper: Donnie Carson Board Members: Jackie Gay, Dave Parrott, Henry Westerlage, Kim Martin, Jerry Lynn Liles, Terri Howell and Donnie Carson.

Visit us on the Web http://www.arklatexphc.com Here you will find officer and director contact information, sponsorship forms, show bills, forms, newsletters, and lots of other club information. Special Thanks to Our Sponsors We always appreciate new sponsors. Interested parties will find sponsorship forms on the website. Thanks to the following sponsors who continue to support the club year after year: Circle T Trailers - Platinum Monroe/West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau - Platinum Ranchland Western Store Gold Special Awards Congratulations to the stars of the 2006 Therapeutic Walk Trot classes. Susie Stewart with Heavenly Lites was the Champion and Tiffanie Brown with Miss Sockett was the Reserve Champion. Way to go Susie and Tiffanie! The 2006 winner of the Mab Fowler Award is Navonda Rains with Dancin With Obsession. The winner of the Robert Nims Award is Sue Anding with Awesome Tracer. Navonda and Sue enjoy the special distinction of being the final recipients of these trophies as both awards are being retired. Congratulations to both winners. There was a tie for the Champion Lead Line Award. Megan Covington with Gambling Purdy Lady and Neal Covington with Starlight Playlena are the 2006 Champions in this division. Terrific work Megan and Neal! Ark-La-Tex Scholarship Winner This year s scholarship winner is Caroline Brown. Best of luck for continued success Caroline. be announced at the year-end awards banquet. The Woodson family sponsors the award. Stallion Service Sale The stallion service sale will begin in January 2007. You pay the club ½ of the advertised fee - minimum - $300. The list of over 100 top stallions will be on the website in late December. Most stallions are linked to their sites. Shop for your favorite stallion at the site or call Mary Parrott (318) 255-8153 to purchase a breeding or to donate a stallion service. The list is always changing so keep checking. Our stallion owners are the greatest! The last day for stallion owners to pay up their stallion is December 31. Magnolia Classic Purchasing a foal through the stallion service sale will make your baby eligible for the 2008 Magnolia Classic. Check out the website for the 2006 and prior winners. We congratulate all of our futurity and high-point winners and appreciate your support of the club. A list of the Magnolia Classic High Point Winners is attached. Congratulations To Our 2006 Year End Award Winners The officers of the Ark La Tex Paint Horse Club would like to thank Kim Martin for keeping the points not only in 2006, but for many years prior. Kim has always been extremely efficient and accurate at this time consuming task. We appreciate the dedication and perseverance that Kim displayed in dealing with the point keeping for this year. Regrettably, her task was complicated by problems that included receiving information late, some of which was incorrect for shows earlier in the year. We want the club members, who continually support the club by working and showing, to understand that the 2006 problems did not come from Kim. Thanks, Kim, for all you ve done over the years and for tackling the unexpected challenges you faced this year with characteristic good humor and diligence. Thank you to our members for your patience and understanding. 2007 should go more smoothly for Donnie. Thanks Donnie for jumping in.
