Montrose Youth Boy s Basketball Association (often referred to as AAU but there is NO affiliation) Montrose Youth Boy s Basketball Association is a club that is focused on taking Montrose s top male basketball players (grades (4-8) and molding them into the most successful players they can be while preparing them to compete for Montrose High School. This is a competitive team which means we will typically be fielding 10 player teams. Players will be chosen through a tryout process. Boys that make the team are guaranteed equal practice time but because this is a competitive team, equal playing time in games is NOT GUARANTEED. General Information: Practice begins in early January and ends in Mid April (3-4 days per week with time and days TBD by the coach) Participate in at least 7 tournaments (20-24 games) TBD by coaches and/or team vote Cost $ 275 (once a player is selected to a team and has paid the fee it is nonrefundable) No family discounts offered. Cost includes: o Use of uniforms, practice equipment and facilities o 6 th travel bag, 7 th travel bag, 8 th - travel bag o Basketball shooting shirt(warmup) o Tournament entry fees o Secondary insurance for players/coaches(parent s insurance first) NOTE: o Player travel, lodging, and meal costs are not included in this fee and the parents are responsible for these o Coaches will be reimbursed for travel expenses in accordance with the MYBBA Travel Expense Guidelines Tryout Process: Coaches will be evaluating a number of things when determining who will be selected to what team. Players may try to compete in a grade higher age division but it is not required. Players who will be attending Montrose High School have priority over those who live outside these boundaries o Basketball skills/competitiveness o Athleticism/Physical Attributes (height/speed/agility/maturity) o Player/Family Commitment (Financial/Time) o Desire to learn (is the player coachable) o Attitude o Effort

The coaches of MYBBA expect the players to give THEIR all towards this commitment as well as their FAMILY members support. Academic performance in the classroom comes before performance on the basketball court (Student grades will be reviewed during the season) Players are expected to attend all practices and tournaments unless there are unforeseen events that warrant an excused absence It is mandatory for every player s family to volunteer for the Montrose Home Tournament. This is our only fund raising event which allows us to keep player expenses to a minimum (Montrose home tournament tentatively scheduled for March 20-22) For more information on tournament volunteer schedule please contact: Kristy Pittman- Tournament Coordinator (970) 275-3303 or MYBBA board members: Donnie Cooling (970) 209-6799 Ty Jennings (970) 209-4673 Urban Walker (970) 275-0491 Practice: Practice will begin upon the coach s request. Typically we will practice 2-3 nights a week during the season. Coaches could require more practice prior to tournament season. Tentative practice schedule: 6 th grade-columbine Middle School 6:30-8:30 Tuesday and Thursday 7 th grade-columbine Middle School 6:30-8:30 Monday and Wednesday 8 th grade-montrose High School 8:00-9:30 Monday thru Thursday The times and location are subject to change and will be determined by the coaches with proper notice to parents. Joint practice could occur amongst different age divisions.

Montrose Youth Boys Basketball Goals/Objectives Improve individual skills on both offense and defense Be a loyal teammate Enjoy the season-be as competitive as we possibly can Priorities Family School Basketball Things to Consider: No Defense-No Play Make the Basic Play Do things the Right way develop good habits (which allows you to make the Basic play) 100% maximum effort- at practice as well as games As you practice, so shall you play Do you have the Will to Prepare to Win? Strive for Excellence, Not Perfection Respect the game, your teammates, coaches, opponents, officials Have Fun Defensive Philosophy Pressure/Help side man to man know your responsibilities (on the ball, one pass away, two passes away, help side, traps, run-and-jump) Protect the paint, create turnovers/initiate the offense Rebound-Locate/Lock/Box/ Sprint back on defense=protect the paint-stop the ball Offensive Philosophy Controlled Fast Break/Score in Transition o Take care of the ball, be patient-don t force things that aren t there, see the floor, make good decisions with the ball, and give up a good shot for a great shot Motion versus Man to Man defense o Make good decisions, don t force passes, use ball fakes to create passing lanes, know the offense, set good screens (picks) and use them correctly, always square to the basket in your triple threat position-see the rim as well as your teammates, rebound, sprint, back on defense Zona - Hilo - Box o We will use one, two, or all three of these offenses depending on the type of zone defense we encounter

Player Minutes: We typically have 10 players on each team. As coaches we would like to play every player as much as we can in every game. However, we will be playing to win games thus if we need to make the necessary substitutions that allow us the best chance to win, we will do so. As previously stated in the MYBBA Philosophy, we only guarantee equal playing time in practice-not games. Player minutes will also be dictated by fouls, injury, work ethic, attitude, etc. Coaches: 8 th Grade --- Dave Jensen 7 th Grade --- Ty Jennings/ Steve Skiff 6 th Grade --- Matt Imus Notes: As coaches we respect the parent s knowledge of their child and the game of basketball. However, the coach is in charge and makes all basketball decisions during practice and games. Please do not coach your child at those times. You can coach your child at home. If you have concerns with what you see on the court please feel free to contact the coach the day AFTER the game/tournament and issues can be discussed at that time. Please do not call coaches on game days. Parents Code of Conduct: Parents are a very important part of this club, the support they show the program, staff and coaches will have a lasting impact on the program. Parents are required to conduct themselves in a manner which is respectful toward coaches, officials, opponents and other members of the club. There is a no tolerance policy to this rule. Upon written notification of any violation to this rule, the parents and player will be removed from the program. MYBBA supports the decisions you make as parents, we require that you support basketball decisions made by the club. Coaches Travel: Coaches travel expenses will be reimbursed from the club. Head coach will be reimbursed up to $120 per night for accommodation, food and travel. The assistant coach will be required to share a room with head coach or split the reimbursable amount. However, he/she will be reimbursed for travel and food for the trip.
