Pool Guidelines It is our aim to provide you with an enjoyable swimming experience. Please follow these guidelines. Adults are classified as yrs and above. Children under 8yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult in the water at all times. The following adult to child ratios apply Small Pool: Children under yrs: adult to children Children aged -7yrs: adult to children Combination of ages: adult to children Main Pool: Children under yrs: adult to child Children aged -7yrs: adult to children Combination of ages: adult to child Swim Nappies: Working on the advice of the Institute of Sport & Recreation Management all children up to yrs of age must wear swim nappies before entering the pools. These are available for sale at reception. Please shower before entering the pool. School Holidays: During School and Bank Holidays the Pool Timetable may change please either visit our website (www.activecentres.org) or call the Leisure Centre in advance. Groups: Should you be a member of a large group or club ( people or more) we would really appreciate it if you could call to let us know when you intend to swim. Active Swimming Academy We offer a wide comprehensive range of swimming courses for all ages and abilities We continuously strive to provide a better level of service for our customers: Customers can now spread the cost of swimming lessons by converting to direct debit payment. This means parents no longer have to pay for lessons in one lump sum and don t have to worry about queuing to re-enrol their child at the end of each course. Coming Soon Parents will be able to review their child s swimming progress online via a secure personal login. The National Plan for Teaching Swimming Our lessons follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) devised by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) who support the delivery of swimming lessons across the UK ensuring all teachers/coaches are fully ASA qualified and receive Continual Professional Development. The plan takes the non-swimmer through to a competent swimmer where skills are acquired through an environment where emphasis is placed on fun. Babies and Toddlers Teach your baby/toddler a core life skill in a fun based environment. Our approach to teaching will help enable your child to feel at ease in the water. Babies normally come to the pool from months old after their initial immunisations. Pre-School Our Duckling Awards are designed to help pre-school children enjoy learning to swim with help from parents or guardians. Your child can work towards five grades of colourful awards, each with its own certificate and badge. Grade - Duckling Awards: Buoyancy aids, such as armbands can be used for the first three grades as the child learns to float and get used to the water. Grade Duckling Awards: The fourth grade has young swimmers jumping into the water, submerging, floating and swimming five metres without aids. yrs+ and attending school Children within this age range are looking to work through the National Plan for Teaching Swimming. The National Plan for Teaching Swimming Key Stages (-7) In order to progress your child will need to meet pre-set criteria outcomes for each stage; there are 7 core stages in total: Stage : Developing basic safety awareness, basic movement skills and water confidence skills. Swimmers may use aids e.g. floats, woggles etc. Stage : Developing safe entries into the water, including jumping in, travel up to metres on the front and back, rotate unaided to regain upright positions. Swimmers may use aids e.g. floats, woggles etc. Stage : Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to metres on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge. Stage : Developing an understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes, and swimming to a given standard as directed by the ASA. Stage : Developing watermanship through sculling and treading water skills, and complete rotation, also performing all strokes to a given standard as directed by the ASA. Stage : Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.
