Seminars / Workshops For 2015 Sportsmen s Retreats Topic: Making Cordage out of Plant Fibers/ Primitive Fire Starting Speaker: Francis Majeski Day / Time: Friday at 10 a.m. Where: Family Life Center Hospitality Room Description: Come learn some survival skills as Mr. Majeski teaches you what the outdoors has to offer for making survival cordage and starting fires. Both skills are useful things to know if you ever find yourself in stranded in the wild. Topic: Gun History Speaker: Jerry Fastenow (AKA Badger ) Day / Time: Friday at 9:30 p.m. Where: Main Chapel Description: Ol Badger has an amazing collection of historical guns and each one has a story. Come listen to Badger as he carries you through our American History and shows you the guns that were used from various time periods. Topic: Iowa History Speaker: Jerry Fastenow (AKA Badger ) Day / Time: Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Where: Main Chapel Description: Badger is a living History Book. Not joking! Learn a little bit about Iowa s History as badger shows you different tools, artifacts, and other neat items that had an impact on the way Iowa was settled. Topic: Reloading Metal Cartridge Ammunition Speaker: Greg Brennaman Day / Time: Friday at 9:30 p.m. Description: Greg has been reloading for a number of years now and loves introducing guys to the hobby. Come see the tools, equipment, and learn the benefits of reloading your own ammunition. Topic: Forming a Church Safety Team Speaker: Joel Wise Where: Hall Description: Joel has assisted a few churches with setting up safety teams within their congregations. It s sad to think that this is something to consider, but come and learn from Joel the value of establishing something like this within your own ministry.

Topic: Defensive Shooting Tactics Class (Cost $50/person) Speaker: Joel Wise Day / Time: Friday 9 a.m. / Friday 2 p.m. / Saturday 11 a.m. / Saturday 2 p.m. Where:Archery Range Description: Joel has been involved in safety trainings for churches, self defense, and much more. He has a wide knowledge of defensive tactics and will lead you through some things you need to know when it comes to protecting yourself in defensive situations. Please bring your own weapon and sign up in the Welcome Center. Topic: Plaque and Mount Making for your Trophies Speaker: Levi Lanz Day / Time: Saturday 10:30 a.m. Where: Family Life Center Party Room Description: Levi is an accomplished hunter but also has quite a list of hobbies with wood. Come learn from Levi a few simple things that you can make at home to display your trophies in your home. They are cost effective and will look really nice. Topic: Using a GPS for Scouting and Hunting Speaker: Bryan Witt Day / Time: Saturday 2 p.m. Description: Brian is an accomplished hunter but also has learned the benefits of using a GPS to properly prepare for his hunts. Come listen to Brian as he shares the benefits of using GPS devices tin increase your odds of a harvest! Topic: Reviving old Crank Bait lures and In Line Spinner Lures Speaker: John Engelstad Where: Dining Hall Description: John began to do this as he would find old lures that were left abandoned along the edges of lakes, ponds, and rivers. Come learn how to repaint and revive these old lures to make that useful again. It s a hobby that s both fun and practical. Topic: Ice Fishing Speaker: Jeremy Lindley Day / Time: Friday 11 a.m. Description: I know in March the ice may be getting thin (hopefully!), but nonetheless, Jeremy will introduce you to the winter sport of ice fishing. Learn the tools, and talents that will give you success while on the ice!

Topic: Iowa Permit to Carry Class($50/person) Speaker: Scott Straight Day / Time:Thursday 6 p.m. / Friday 1p.m. / Saturday 10:30 a.m. / Saturday 2 p.m. / Sunday 11 a.m. Where:Aunan Board Room Description: If you ve ever desired to receive your permit to carry a concealed weapon, you can accomplish that through Scott s classes. Through the weekend we will offer both the Iowa as well as the Utah class for certification. The cost is $50 per class and you can sign up in the Welcome Center. The Iowa class is 4 hours. Need a minimum of three participants to hold the class. Topic: Utah Permit to Carry Class ($50/person) Speaker: Scott Straight Day / Time:Friday 9 a.m. / Friday 9:30 p.m. / Saturday 9:30 p.m. / Sunday 11 a.m. Where:Aunan Board Room Description: If you ve ever desired to receive your permit to carry a concealed weapon, you can accomplish that through Scott s classes. Topic: World War II Weaponry / Shooting a 50 Caliber Mounted Gun Speaker: Matt Rosendahl Day / Time: Saturday 2 p.m. Where: Rifle Range Description: Matt is a gun enthusiant and a bit of a history buff. Come find Matt on the range and see a few of his favorite collections and, if you d like, take some shots with his mounted 50 caliber gun. Matt does have to charge $20 per five round clip to shoot this monster, but when you re shooting and a car, it s worth the cost! Topic: Turkey Tail Mounting Professionally Speaker: Jim Kindig Taxidermist Day / Time: Thursday 7 p.m. Where: Family Life Center Party Room Description: At this workshop, Jim is going to share with you some trade secrets on how to mount a turkey tail professionally. He s promised me that it s not too tough. Jim will have some tails there for you to work on and the finished products will be donated to the camp and you will go home with the knowledge and experience! Topic: Video Your Hunts Speaker: John Lockwood Day / Time: Saturday 11 a.m. Description: John is going to show you, hands on, what it takes to film your hunt in a very professional manner. He loves the outdoors and has a passion to share that love through video media. Come learn some of the tips, tools, and advice on making a great outdoor memory of your hunts.

Topic: First Aid Training / CPR Speaker: Kevin Allsup Day / Time: Friday 9:30 p.m. Description: If you have not ever had any First Aid or CPR training, I would suggest attending this workshop by Kevin. He will share some very good information and even help you practice what he will teach you. You will not leave with a certification, but you will have the knowledge that might save somebody s life someday. Topic: Turkey Talk Speaker: Mark Lockwood Day / Time: Friday 9:30 p.m. Where: Dining Room Description: If you are an experienced turkey caller or just starting, this is a workshop for you to attend. Mark will share some great insight on different calls, how to use them, and what calls to make as you chase those thunder chickens this spring. Topic: Thinking about starting a business? A forum with those who have. Speaker: Mark Lockwood Description: Mark has had success at starting his own business, but knows that it wasn t the easiest thing to do. Come to this seminar / forum if you have some advice to give or are thinking about starting something yourself. Topic: Gould Brothers Exhibition Shooting Show Performers: Aaron and Steve Gould Day / Time: Saturday 1:30 p.m. Where: Pasture East of Dining Hall (Gould Brothers will be set up there the whole weekend) Description: The Gould Brothers Exhibition Shooting show has crossed all over the United States and still makes time to come and be a part of the Hidden Acres Sportsmen s Retreat. Aaron and Steve are great at what they do and you will be amazed at their shooting capabilities. They will be around to rub shoulders, sell merchandise, and allow you the challenge of some shooting games.

Events Open All Weekend Topic: Youth Archery Host: John Dumars What: John has been a long time supporter of the Sportsmen s Retreat and an archery enthusiast. He will have a set up throughout the whole weekend for kids to come shoot some of Matthew s Genesis Bow. Whether they have experience or not, make sure you stop by and shoot with John. Topic: Cowboy Gun Shooting Host: Cowboy Don What: Step back in time with Cowboy Don and shoot some traditional pistols at some targets on the range. Don will have some different weapons for you to try and will teach you how to use them for success. Topic: Antique Guns Host: Jerry Fastenow Badger What: Another long timer with the Hidden Acres Sportsmen s Retreat that you have to meet. Badger will be set up with all his historical guns for you to come and shoot as you wish. While you re shooting he will tell you all about the gun your shooting and even give you a gold dollar if you hit the bulls eye! Topic: Shooting Contests Host: Gould Brothers Exhibition Shooters What: The Gould Brothers will not only be putting on a shooting show for us, they will be running 4 different shooting contests that you can participate in for prizes. There is a costs per entry but the prizes will be well worth it! Contests such as The 110 Yard Pistol / Rifle Challenge, The Pistol Steel Challenge, The 410 Popper Target Challenge, and The 30 Bird Flurry Challenge. Come participate and possibly win prizes from the Gould Brothers as well as Hidden Acres!
