ABOUT ISABELLA Since birth Isabella had always had a competitive side in her. She grew up competing in many sports, including, swimming, track and field, karate, golf, field hockey, and of course sailing. Her mother did everything she could to always support her daughters dreams, and when others would doubt Isabella, her mom always stood by her. It was at age 13 when Isabella did the unthinkable, an accomplishment that helped her chose sailing over all other sports Isabella successfully qualified for both the junior and senior national teams the youngest individual ever to do so in the sport of sailing. From that point on her life became a balancing act. Education was very important to Isabella, and thus she worked incredibly hard to maintain her high average in school. During that period Isabella would qualify for three ISAF Youth World Championships, she placed 7th, 4th, and 4th, respectably. She qualified herself for the 2008 Olympic trials, and maintained her national team status year after year. She was honored to be awarded a Premiers Athletic Award, and be a 3-time winner of the Bill Burke Canadian Youth Sailor of the Year Award. Following high school graduation Isabella was accepted into her number one post secondary education choice The Sauder School of Business at University of British Columbia. After finishing 3rd at the 2008 Olympic trials, Isabella had her sights set on London 2012. She continued her balancing act of training and competing while attending university but after completing 2nd year, she realized it was time to solely focus on sailing. With a limited budget Isabella began training full time and her results quickly improved. She won the senior national title, and after being top Canadian at nearly every event entered in the final year leading up to the Olympic qualifiers, she was a clear favorite to attend the 2012 Olympics.
ABOUT ISABELLA After qualifying a berth for Canada to attend the Olympics, Isabella was leading the Olympic trials. It was then that things took a turn for the worse, Isabella suffered an injury a few short days before the final Olympic qualifier. She opted to try and push through to still win the trials, but she simply could not compete up to her normal level and finished 2nd she was devastated but knew she had only one choice. Isabella diligently rehabbed herself, and come the next world cup race was back to 80% of her healthy self, she finished top Canadian and 12th overall. Isabella continued recovering and was the top Canadian at both the World Championships, and the world cup race at the Olympic Venue. Every event Isabella entered following her injury, she proved she was still the top ranked laser radial sailor in Canada, and an upcoming force to be reckoned with on the World Cup circuit. Now Isabella has one goal, win Olympic gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
