Honoring 1, 3, 6, 9 & 11 year 4-H members. 4-H leaders will be recognized for 2, 5, & 10 years of service. Butler County Fair Fairgrounds Clean-Up Fairgrounds clean-up will count toward herdsmanship points! Get a head start with cleaning the Hain Building on Thursday, July 14 @ 6 pm. Fairgrounds clean-up day, Saturday, July 16 at the Butler County Fairgrounds. Cleaning will begin at 9 a.m. All 4-H ers are encouraged to help prepare the fairgrounds and buildings for the 2016 Butler County Fair. Help is needed to clean the grandstand, exhibit buildings and livestock buildings. Bring your brooms, buckets, shovels, etc. The more help we 4-H Flag Raising Ceremony A special flag raising ceremony will take place at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, just prior to the goat/sheep show. The flag lowering ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, immediately following the 4-H Awards Presentation and Livestock Subsidy Auction. The flag will be illuminated at night and will remain up throughout the fair. Each club should provide a representative to participate in both ceremonies. This could be your club president or another representative available at those times. The club representative does not need to be the same person each time. Each individual will read a short paragraph, which we will provide for them. Please let Katie know who your club representatives, kpleskac2@unl.edu 4-H/FFA Swine Exhibitors must complete the Tyson affidavit and bring it to check in at the fairgrounds on July 20. Substitute showmen in the livestock ring- If a substitute showman is needed for any of the livestock events, the showman must be enrolled in Butler County 4-H or FFA. Highlights of the event included-gavin Romshek placing 7 th overall in beef and the Senior Team, Zeilinger, Ockander, Papa and Romshek finishing 10 th. The Butler County team is coached by Doug Kershner, organizational leader, Great Plains 4-H Club. 4

Corn Matters Club Exhibits Butler County 4-H is a partner of the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art with two exhibitions: Barns and Corn Matters. Barn Quilts from the summer workshop will represent the Barns project and a special mosaic made from dyed corn kernels will anchor the special Corn display in the Hain Building. In addition, the 2016 Club Exhibit will center on the Corn Matters theme. Clubs are encouraged to create a special entry with the corn focus. Posters, jars, dioramas, plants, pictures, paintings, sculptures, art displays, a bowl of popcorn-be creative in designing an entry for your club project. The Extension Office is encouraging every club to participate. Clubs do not need to pre-enter this exhibit!
