Last year we engaged in numerous discussions about characteristics we hope to encourage and instil in our students and the following new mantra emerged: Show Courage, Pursue Excellence and Persevere. Perhaps your child might be able to explain to you what this means for him/her as the year progresses. We are in the middle of a b u s y S w i m m i n g We e k f o r o u r Reception to Year 5s and the weather has been perfect for swimming! Congratulations to all students for their terrific behaviour and eager participation. When Swimming Week concludes, we will begin our preparation for Harmony Day and Sports Day. Harmony Day is Tuesday 21 st March. Classes will be involved in various activities during the day and all students are invited to wear a splash of ORANGE (however this is not compulsory). Harmony Day will be followed by Sports Day which will be held on Friday 24 th March. SAPSASA Softball Carnival 2017 SPORTS NEWS The school would like to thank all the parents for their wonderful support of SAPSASA with a special mention to Lisa Wilson (Mother of Shannyn HB4) who ended up coaching the girls team. Also, a big thank you to our very own Kelly Johnston for her help with organisation, umpiring and scoring. We very much appreciated all of your assistance. Champions, Champions, Champions! Huge congratulations to our girls SAPSASA softball team for being crowned winners of the carnival this week. The girls won all 4 of their matches against some strong opposition. There was some spectacular fielding and some big hits on the way to securing a well-earned victory. Well done! Big smiles all round! Our boys SAPSASA softball team produced some great play throughout the carnival with always a smile on their faces. After a tough draw the boys came home in 4 th place. A wonderful effort was demonstrated by all the players. Well done. Interschool Gymkhana On Friday 24 th February, Boo Edwards (HB20) represented Golden Grove Primary School at Trinity College in the interschool Gymkhana. This was Boo s first outing on her new horse Meeko, she was a little nervous but excited at the same time. There were many entrants and Boo entered the Topsy Ring along with 20 other students, under the age of 13 Years. Boo was successful and won the Best Behaved Pony ; she was awarded second for the bounciest trot and a third for the rising trot. Boo also won 3 encouragement ribbons. Boo had a wonderful conclusion to the day by being awarded the Sportsmanship Award Trophy. Congratulations Boo, we are very proud of you!
Congratulations to Zoe M, Summer N, Maddie H, Kaitlyn H and Caitlyn E who represented our school at the District SAPSASA Swimming Carnival last Friday. It was a fantastic day in and out of the pool. Some of the highlights from the day are listed below. Results Zoe 50 Free - 4th in the 50 Breast - 3rd in 50 Butterfly - 5 th heat the heat Maddie 50 Free 2nd 50 Breast 4th 50 Back 2nd 50 Butterfly- 3rd Summer 50 Breast 1st 50 Free 2nd 50 Back 2nd 50 Butterfly 3rd Kaitlin 50 Free 4th 50 Breast 3rd 50 Back 3rd 50 Butterfly 4th Caitlyn 100 Open Free - 2nd 50 Free - 1st 50 Back - 1st 50 Butterfly- 1st With only 5 swimmers, Golden Grove Primary School managed to come in 4th out of 12 schools, which is incredible considering other schools took very large teams. We are all very proud of these girls. Maddie, Summer, Kaitlin and Caitlyn have been selected to represent Tea Tree Gully District at the Metro SAPSASA at Marion on the 16th March. We wish them lots of luck and can t wait to hear how they go. Congratulations to all of our swimmers; next year we look forward to another successful meet. A big thank you to Megan Ekins who acted as the team manager at the carnival, we very much appreciate your help and guidance. Also, thank you to the other parents and family members that attended the carnival to support the team.
