OPENING DOORS TO UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES Golden Grove Primary School NEWSLETTER OUR VALUES RESPONSIBILITY-EMPATHY-SELF WORTH-PERSONAL EXCELLENCE-COLLABORATION-TRUST Inside this issue Principal News Award Winners Sports News Coming events Term 1 Week 6, 9th March 2017 Dear Parents, As many of you know, the core value of our school is RESPECT and we work to keep this value alive in the classroom and in the school yard. Last year we engaged in numerous discussions about characteristics we hope to encourage and instil in our students and the following new mantra emerged: Show Courage, Pursue Excellence and Persevere. Perhaps your child might be able to explain to you what this means for him/her as the year progresses. Mad March! 13/03/17 Adelaide Cup Public Holiday 20/03/17 Governing Council Meeting 7pm 21/03/17 Harmony Day 24/03/17 Sports Day Principal Wendy Moore It is Mad March in the city and it is pretty busy at GGPS too. We are in the middle of a b u s y S w i m m i n g We e k f o r o u r Reception to Year 5s and the weather has been perfect for swimming! Congratulations to all students for their terrific behaviour and eager participation. When Swimming Week concludes, we will begin our preparation for Harmony Day and Sports Day. Harmony Day is Tuesday 21 st March. Classes will be involved in various activities during the day and all students are invited to wear a splash of ORANGE (however this is not compulsory). Harmony Day will be followed by Sports Day which will be held on Friday 24 th March. The day will begin at 9am with the Team March and will conclude with the team trophy presentation at approximately 3:00pm. 140 Bicentennial Drive Golden Grove 5125 Phone: 8289 3137 Fax: 8289 3138 Email: dl.1848_info@schools. sa.edu.au Website: www.goldengps.sa.edu.au SMS: 0416 906 270 Harmony Day 21 st March Wear a splash of ORANGE! Reminder: NO DOGS ALLOWED IN SCHOOL GROUNDS (Regardless of whether the dog is on a leash and/or regardless of whether the dog is very cute!) SAPSASA Softball Carnival 2017 SPORTS NEWS The school would like to thank all the parents for their wonderful support of SAPSASA with a special mention to Lisa Wilson (Mother of Shannyn HB4) who ended up coaching the girls team. Also, a big thank you to our very own Kelly Johnston for her help with organisation, umpiring and scoring. We very much appreciated all of your assistance. Champions, Champions, Champions! Huge congratulations to our girls SAPSASA softball team for being crowned winners of the carnival this week. The girls won all 4 of their matches against some strong opposition. There was some spectacular fielding and some big hits on the way to securing a well-earned victory. Well done! Big smiles all round! Our boys SAPSASA softball team produced some great play throughout the carnival with always a smile on their faces. After a tough draw the boys came home in 4 th place. A wonderful effort was demonstrated by all the players. Well done. Interschool Gymkhana On Friday 24 th February, Boo Edwards (HB20) represented Golden Grove Primary School at Trinity College in the interschool Gymkhana. This was Boo s first outing on her new horse Meeko, she was a little nervous but excited at the same time. There were many entrants and Boo entered the Topsy Ring along with 20 other students, under the age of 13 Years. Boo was successful and won the Best Behaved Pony ; she was awarded second for the bounciest trot and a third for the rising trot. Boo also won 3 encouragement ribbons. Boo had a wonderful conclusion to the day by being awarded the Sportsmanship Award Trophy. Congratulations Boo, we are very proud of you!

Congratulations to Zoe M, Summer N, Maddie H, Kaitlyn H and Caitlyn E who represented our school at the District SAPSASA Swimming Carnival last Friday. It was a fantastic day in and out of the pool.
