Terms and Conditions of Entry Cairns Young Newsreader Competition The following terms and conditions apply for the promotion Mount Sheridan Plaza & WIN Young Newsreaders Competition Where there is any inconsistency, the following terms and conditions will prevail. 1. CONTEST NAME: Mount Sheridan Plaza & WIN Young Newsreader Competition 2. BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Senior Students in years 11 & 12 within the Cairns area can nominate themselves by filling out the registration form that has been sent to the respective schools. REGISTRATION FORMS ARE DUE, NO LATER THAN FRIDAY MARCH 10 by Close of Business (5.00pm). REGISTRATION FORMS CAN BE RETURNED VIA THE BELOW METHODS: HAND DELIVERED TO CENTRE MANAGEMENT OFFICE POST MT SHERIDAN PLAZA CENTRE MANAGEMENT OFFICE, 106 BARNARD DRIVE, MT SHERIDAN QLD 4868 SCANNED & EMAILED TO Kay Judd: kjudd@mtsheridanplaza.com.au FAX: 07 4036 3496 There will be a maximum of 10 students per heat. In the event of more than six different schools nominating for a category heats will be held and time slot given in advance as to which heat the nominated school & student will be competing. Heats times will be announced closer to the date once we have participant names and numbers. Categories at the moment are (subject to change) Heat 1 (Saturday 18 th March 2017) 9:00am-9:30am Heat 2 (Saturday 18 th March 2017) 9:30am-10:00am Heat 3 (Saturday 18 th March 2017) 10:30am-11:00am Heat 4 (Saturday 18 th March 2017) 11:00am-11:30am Quarter Final, Semi Final and Grand Final (Saturday 25 th March 2017) 9:00am-1:00pm Successful Heat winners will be announced of the day after the respective heat has concluded. The coordinator will be emailed winning names via email with confirmation details of semi-final in which they will be competing in the Young Newsreader Competition. PARENT OR GUARDIAN S NAME AND SIGNATURE APPROVAL FOR THEIR STUDENT TO TAKE PART IN THE YOUNG NEWSREADER COMPETITION TO BE COMPLETED ON APPLICATION FORM. ALTERNATIVELY, PLEASE ATTACH SCHOOLS STANDARD PERMISSION FORMS FOR COMPETITION. All students competing in the Young Newsreader Competition, MUST be wearing their school uniform when representing their School. Entrants/students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at time of competition. Guardians can be a nominated representative from the school, based on the schools excursion/extracurricular policy. 1

Rules & regulations of Young Newsreader Competition 3. Selection of News Articles 1. The selection of News articles for the competition will be selected by two representatives from WIN Local News. 2. Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. O & OE Accepted. 3. TIME The Young Newsreader announcer (host) will introduce themselves to the competitors; The Young Newsreader announcer (host) will ask all participants to take their allocated seats The host will then outline how the competition will run to participants and audience; The host assistant will provide each participant with a news article 3-5 minutes prior to their presentation, they will have this time to review the article prior to their allocated timeslot There will be 3 different news stories per heat, to ensure every student has the same / or a similar opportunity Each participant will have a total of 3 minutes to read their news article at the News Desk The remaining 2 minutes will be used by the host to ask questions and get to know the participant Each participant will be filmed in front of a live audience and the TV will be onsite televising to the audience, this is not for judging but to enhance the experience for the audience. When the news article has been read by the participant, the next participate will then be asked to make their way to the news desk to begin Once this has been done, the participant may be seated back with the other contestants and await results prior to the next heat beginning. The MC will announce who is moving through to the next round. Bell will be provided by Mount Sheridan Plaza. 4. JUDGING CRITERIA 1) Well-presented/well groomed 2) Communicates Story effectively to audience through tone of voice & annunciation 3) Personality connects to the audience 4) Accuracy Elimination 5. Heats Each contestant will be asked to read a news article Each contestant is scored on the above criteria. At the end of each round, the scores are calculated; the 4 contestants with the highest scores will move forward into the quarter finals and this will be announced at the end of the heat If there is a tie, the tied contestants will be given the same news article and they will be In the event that there is a tie break again both contestants will move forward into the quarter final 2

6. Quarter Finals Each contestant will be asked to read a news article Each contestant is scored on the above criteria. At the end of each round, the scores are calculated; the 2 contestants with the highest scores will move forward into the semi finals If there is a tie, the tied contestants will be given the same news article and they will be In the event that there is a tie break again both contestants will move forward into the semi final 7. Semi Finals Each contestant will be asked to read a news article Each contestant is scored on the above criteria. At the end of each round, the scores are calculated; the contestant with the highest score will move forward into the grand final If there is a tie, the tied contestants will be given the same news article and they will be In the event that there is a tie break again both contestants will move forward into the grand final 8. Finals Each contestant will be asked to read a news article Each contestant is scored on the above criteria. At the end of each round, the scores are calculated; the contestant with the highest score will win the overall competition If there is a tie, the tied contestants will be given the same news article and they will be In the event that there is a tie break again both contestants will continue to read a news article until we have an overall winner 9. Stopping - A contestant may stop at any point during their recording and start again if required. However, he/she is not allowed to change the news article. 10. Registration forms and contestant names are due by Wednesday 8 th March 2017, by Close of Business (5.00pm). No late entries will be accepted. 3

11. NOTIFICATION: Phone call & email from Mount Sheridan Plaza. 12. In the event that one participant does not show up, the position will be forfeited. In order to participate, parents and or guardians must register each student through their school. On the day of the event each student is to present at the registration table and receive their name badge 15 minutes prior to their allocated time slot. By participating in the Mount Sheridan Plaza activities, you may be asked to take part in the Mt Sheridan Marketing by form of photographs, which may be promoted on the Facebook Page and Website for future promotional material and publicity purposes without any further reference, payment or other compensation to you. The promoter is Mount Sheridan Plaza, Green Group of Companies, 106 Barnard Drive, Mount Sheridan, Qld, 4868. ABN: 68266146096. You consent to us using the information you have provided on this form for the purposes of the general administration of the promotion in accordance with the Privacy Act. Mt Sheridan Plaza respects your privacy and no information obtained will be passed on to any 3rd party. You will receive no unsolicited marketing from Mt Sheridan Plaza regarding any information you may provide. The promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the event or any activity within and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter s control. No cash alternative to the prizes will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice. 4

Prior to work experience being undertaken at WIN News, it is the responsibility of the school to arrange all necessary insurance cover for the winner and indemnities for WIN Television for the duration of the winner s work experience with WIN News, and to provide evidence of insurance and indemnities, prior to the winner commencing work experience with WIN News. The type of work experience and level of engagement provided by WIN News will be at the discretion of the WIN News Cairns Chief of Staff. The winner will be required to follow the direction of the Chief of Staff and other WIN personnel, and observe and comply with all company policies and procedures for the duration of the work experience. WIN News may terminate the work experience at any time and at its sole discretion. The parent or guardian of the winner will be required to provide transport for the winner, to and from WIN News in Cairns, and to ensure the winner is collected from WIN News premises at a pre-agreed time, each day of the work experience. Contact details including office hours and after hours telephone numbers of at least one parent or guardian and one other responsible person known to the winner and the winner s parent or guardian, must be provided to WIN News, prior to the work experience commencing. 5
