Waller weekly news 28 september 2017 This week we celebrated Go Racing s Alward puttingin a smart performance at his home track to take his career earnings to over $226,000. The team at the Gold Coast are also firing with three winners this week while yesterday at Rosehill Invincibella saluted in determined fashion for her Star Thoroughbreds owners. At this early stage of the season we have already celebrated 45 winners around the country to return over $3.2 million in prize-money. Winx has safely arrived in the Melbourne stable this morning and will have a few quiet days to settle in and get over the trip down.chris is happy with her work over the past week and her fitness levels as we look towards the Gr.1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on October 7 as her next assignment. This weekend we are looking forward to two iconic Group One races in the Metropolitan and the Epsom with strong chances in both races. In addition to our Super Saturday runners at Royal Randwick we will be represented on Sunday at Caulfield by Amovatio plus we have runners at Kembla, the Sunshine Coast and Mornington. We also have a big team in on Monday at Warwick Farm. We wish all of our connections the best of luck and a safe weekend! l CHRIS WALLER RACING - WINNERS THIS WEEK alward 5yo G Aqlaam - Sharedah by Pivotal This former French galloper relished the step back up to 2000m at Rosehill on Saturday. Hugh Bowman was on board the Go Racing galloper and he always had the son of Aqlaam in fourth position early on before making his move as they turned into the straight. He hit the front inside the final furlong and kept going strongly for an impressive victory. Although the quick back up in the Gr.1 Metropolitan this weekend is a tempting proposition connections have opted to bypass that race this time around. loving home 7yo G Shamardal - Fallen In Love by Galileo This imported galloper has been a good advertisement for the change of scenery which the new Gold Coast stable provides and he capped off a consistent run of form since heading to Queensland with a solid victory at Ipswich on Saturday over 2150m. Experienced hoop Michael Cahill took the mount and he rode a patient race settling him just worse than midfield early on before bringing him with a sustained run in the straight to hit the front inside the final furlong to score a gutsy win. colosimo 3yo F Foxwedge - Take Charge by Dehere This daughter of Foxwedge was part of a winning double at Ipswich on Saturday for the Gold Coast based stable. Racing in the Aquis Farm colours she broke her maiden over 1200m under Robbie Fradd who gave her time to find her feet early on towards the rear of the field before bringing her with a sustained challenge in the straight to score her third victory from just seven starts.

l invincibella 4yo M I Am Invincible - Abscond by Galileo This talented sort returned from a spell with a solid fresh up win at Rosehill on Wednesday over 1300m under in form hoop Hugh Bowman. Bowman gave her the perfect run settling towards the tail of the field early on before making steady ground to hit the front approaching the final furlong. The likeable mare fought on bravely to repel the challenge of the Godolphin runner Osborne Bulls with the pair pulling clear of the third horse. huang yaoshi 3yo C Hinchinbrook - First Land by Generous After a couple of promising runs in Victoria this son of Hinchinbrook broke his maiden at his first start in New South Wales when winning at Wyong on Sunday. Glyn Schofield was in the saddle and he had a comfortable time of things settling him just behind the leaders early on before giving him the office in the straight. The promising sort let down strongly in the colours of Sun Stud for an impressive victory. silverwin 4yo G Exceed And Excel - Rathlin Island by Giant s Causeway This son of Exceed And Excel was another winner from the Gold Coast stable last Saturday as he scored on his home track on Saturday over 1300m. Glen Colless took the ride and he always had Silverwin in a good spot sitting outside the leader before he took the front inside the final furlong for a gutsy victory.

l Chris Waller confident Egg Tart will make Epsom Champion trainer Chris Waller remains confident Egg Tart will take her place in Saturday's Epsom Handicap at Randwick despite the four-year-old mare being ruled unsuitable to race by Racing NSW veterinarian Craig Suann on Tuesday. The Epsom $5 second-favourite drew ideally in barrier one, but an eye irritation threatens to keep her out of the race she has targeted this spring. There was no issue with her working with Foxplay [on Tuesday morning] and they matched each other in the gallop, Waller said. She hasn t missed any work because of the problem and we believe she will be right to take her place in the race. She is improving all the time. The Waller stable reported the issue to stewards at acceptance time as required, despite the mare suffering the problem since her first-up run in the Theo Marks Stakes three weeks ago. Suann was asked by stewards to inspect Egg Tart. He ruled she wouldn t have been able to start and will inspect her again on Thursday to see if the problem has persisted. Egg Tart has been at the top of Epsom betting since it began and lost no admirers chasing home Deploy in the Theo Marks in record time at her return. The Waller stable has been managing the problem including treatment from an eye specialist. She has been taking antiinflammatories and antibiotics and the problem has improved since last week. Kerrin McEvoy will ride dual Oaks winner Egg Tart, who has 51 kilograms in the Epsom. He was impressed by the mare when she worked in pacifiers at Rosehill on Saturday. It was good work on Saturday and she seemed very well, McEvoy said. She has certainly improved since her first-up effort. She has a good draw and will be right in the race. We know the ability she has and the turn of foot she possesses, which should help her at this level. It is a big step from three-year-old company to this open company group 1 and you don t really know whether they will step up until they have done it. But she gives the indication that she will handle it. The Waller stable will have five Epsom runners but didn t fair too well at the barrier draw with Comin Through, Tom Melbourne and Foxplay getting the outside three barriers in the field of 14. Topweight and favourite Happy Clapper was backed from $3.60 to $3.20 after he came with gate four, exactly where trainer Pat Webster wanted to draw. He is coming off a first-up win in the Tramway Stakes followed by stretching Winx in the George Main Stakes two weeks ago over the Randwick mile. He is perhaps in the best condition of his career and even with topweight they are going to know he is around, Webster said. Meanwhile, Waller has the top three in betting for the Metropolitan with Kingston Town Stakes winner Libran and Life Less Ordinary equal favourites at $5.50, ahead of stablemate Antonio Giuseppe, who shares the second line of betting at $6 with Big Duke. - Chris Roots, SMH.

Waller runners to the fore in Queensland Chris Waller showed his team was ready to play a major role in Queensland when he had a two centre treble on Saturday. The premier Sydney trainer won with Colosimo and Loving Home at Ipswich and with expensive galloper Silverwin at the Gold Coast. Waller opened a Queensland stable at the Gold Coast in early August and his stable foreman Paul Shailer admitted it had taken time to acclimatise. "The tracks are harder up here and it takes the horses time to get used to the hotter weather. Also we have had to learn the differences in feeding them," Shailer said. "We have 18 horses up here and a few more to come once we finish renovations so we will be getting about 25 to 28 all up." The new regime was starting to work at Ipswich with Colosimo winning earlier in the day and then the Waller pair Loving Home ($5.50) beating stablemate Vassal ($2.60) by a neck in the Spring Stayers Cup (2150m). "That was exactly how to ride Loving Home. You have to let him get back and run home. He ran very good sectionals at his previous start and he has lived up to it," Shailer said. "The good thing is there are races for horses like Loving Home and Vassal every week up here and they can win some more." Loving Home and Vassal are owned by syndicates headed by Frank Cook, a long time Waller client who also had horses with Shailer when he trained in New Zealand. Matt McGillivray got his first winner as a senior jockey when Star Justice ($31) won the Folsom Prison Plate (1000m). "I wasn't counting on riding a winner on my first day as a senior rider but it is great to get one straight away," said McGillivray who finished his apprenticeship on Friday. - ESPN.com

WINX'S 48-STRONG COX PLATE COMPETITION IS A MIXED BAG OF PROSPECTS Wonder mare Winx might be the highest-rated turf horse in the world, but that hasn t stopped rivals from trying to thwart her bid for a historic third Cox Plate later this spring. A total of 48 horses, headlined by Chris Waller s champion, remain in the Moonee Valley classic, but on face value few look to have the necessary credentials to give Winx s connections any sleepless nights. The only opponents the Waller camp might have to consider as party poopers are the three-year-olds. Eight remain, and it is unknown whether any could be a challenger. The three-year-olds do get a big weight advantage and are invariably on an upward curve, but the task against a once-in-a-lifetime galloper like Winx is formidable. It is their presence that makes the Plate such a fascinating contest over a middle distance. The best-known three-year-olds to stand their ground are the Blue Diamond Stakes winner Catchy and the unbeaten Royal Symphony, the favourite for the Caulfield Guineas. If either wins the $2 million Guineas, they will be tempted to go for Plate glory and certainly Royal Symphony is bred to appreciate the 2040-metre Plate distance. The five internationals still in the mix are the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Kaspersky, to be ridden by Michelle Payne, while Coolmore master Aidan O Brien has Johannes Vermeer and his three-year-old Taj Mahal, and Charlie Appleby has Folkswood among the entries. Irish trainer Willie Mullins, whose bid to win the Melbourne Cup in 2015 with Max Dynamite was thwarted by Payne aboard the 100-1 outsider Prince of Penzance, is hoping Riven Light can dethrone Winx to give him a measure of compensation. Other interesting challengers include the Pat Webster-trained Happy Clapper, who ran Winx close last time out at Randwick; the Darren Weir-prepared Humidor, who is the current Caulfield Cup favourite; and the Kiwi mare Bonneval, who made a big impression when winning the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at the Valley meeting in early September. Humidor spearheads a strong Weir entry in the Caulfield Cup as he also has Japanese import Admire Deus who arrived in Melbourne this week and is quarantined at Werribee entered in the $3.15 million race. Godolphin s Hartnell, so often a runner-up to Winx, is in the race, as is the Appleby-trained duo Francis of Assisi and Kidmenever. Other foreign entries remaining in the Caulfield Cup are Marmelo (Hugh Morrison), Johannes Vermeer (O Brien), Wall of Fire (Hugo Palmer), and the Mullinstrained duo Wicklow Brave and Riven Light. All are due to arrive at Werribee on Saturday. Lloyd Williams has six entries headed by last year s Melbourne Cup winner Almandin. David Hayes best hope looks to be impressive Naturalism Stakes winner Harlem.- Michael Lynch, SMH.
