The Targa Concept Targa means plate or plaque in Italian Targa Newfoundland got its name from Targa Florio, a long-distance race around Sicily in the 1900s
The Targa Concept A modern Targa event is a long-distance, multi-day rally on paved roads Three recognized Targa rallies in the world: Australia (Tasmania), New Zealand and Newfoundland
The Targa choice Two competitions : Grand Touring competition: Traditional distance/speed/time rally for any street-legal car Targa competition: Flat-out blast over closed roads for prepared cars where speed and durability count Or two great adventures : Fast Tour: A non-competitive drive over spectacular Targa route where you can drive it like it was meant to be driven! Quick Tour: Same as Fast Tour, but a minimum of one day or three days of experience; don t have to sign up for the entire event!

How it works Competition only on closed-road Targa stages 8 to 12 Targa stages each day; stages are timed Stages connected by regular roads driven at regular speeds Overnight stops at host communities Cars are displayed at local cars shows; secure overnight storage Competitors meet fans, witness gorgeous scenery, and experience competition unlike any other motorsports event

The Route (general overview)
Overview Approximately 1,500 km s of natural beauty and breathtaking roads 60 hours of seat time 45+ closed-road, high- speed Targa stages totalling over 400 km s Intense competition or leisurely tour we have it!

Basic budget Before Competition Entry fee = depends on the division, approx. $3000.00 - $7000.00. Single payment or payment plan available. From North Sydney (ferry crossing) = approx. $500.00 (single vehicle, 2 people). During Competition Accommodations = $1500.00 (arrive Friday before event; leave Saturday after event). Fuel = $400.00 Miscellaneous expenses = $700.00 Base Estimated Cost = Approximately $13,000.00 (will be different for everyone based on different divisions, distance traveled, etc.)

Quick Tour Division Attached to the Fast Tour Division Not a competition but still provides participants closed-road stages where driving can be enjoyed Minimum one day to a maximum three days of enjoyment Entry fee reflects the reduced days; makes a great gift! Excellent way to get a feel for the event
Fast Tour Division If it s sporty and fun-to-drive, welcome to Fast Tour! Not a competition: No timing; speed limit is 130 km/h; drive for the enjoyment and the excitement Same great Targa stages, parties and people Great way to learn what Targa Newfoundland is about Spirited driving that won t hurt your ride!
Grand Touring Division A distance/speed/time rally competition that stresses precision and teamwork Speed limit of 150 km/h Any street-legal car can compete Basic safety equipment required: Helmets, fire extinguisher, warning triangles
Targa Division Classic Division for fully-prepared cars built before 1997. Cars run in age groups, with handicaps based on age, displacement, modification. Winners decided by least lost points (seconds) in handicapped time. Modern Division is for fully prepared post-1997 cars run in age groups but with the same handicap. Winners decided by least lost points (seconds) raw (non-handicapped) time.
Targa Division Open Division is for fully prepared race vehicles, with powerful engines, roll cages, race shocks, and other heavily modified equipment. Year or make of vehicle does not matter. Winners decided by least lost points (seconds) raw (non-handicapped) time.
Targa School Two day Targa-specific training for driver, navigator Classroom and practice stages Perfect warm-up for the rally St. John s, Bauline, Flatrock, and Torbay prior to the start of the actual event
Licenses All entrants are required to have an acceptable competition license Driver needs a valid civil drivers license; co-driver does not IF not driving Competition licenses accepted: FIA race or rally license from any sanctioning body affiliated with ACCUS, Porsche Club of America, BMW Club of America, Rally America or NASA; CASC national, regional Competition license can be obtained from completion of Targa Newfoundland school (is not included in the cost of the school)
