WELLNESS TIP OF THE WEEK #15 You ve heard it time and again, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Research shows that eating breakfast helps kids be better learners and improves their overall wellness. The morning rush makes it difficult to eat breakfast at all, let alone a healthy one. To top it off, the items many of us gravitate toward in a time crunch contain a lot of sugar and very little protein. Here are a few ideas on some nutritious and quick options: -whole grain bagel with a slice of lunch meat and a little cheese- even tastier if heated up! -fresh fruit and yogurt -peanut butter and jelly sandwich (extra points for whole grain bread!) -oatmeal with fruit -leftovers! Might sound funny, but there is no rule that says you have to stick to the traditional breakfast fare. *substitutions may need to be made for allergies and sensitivities For more information, check out https://kidshealth.org/en/kids/breakfast.html

Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month? This is an annual campaign championed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The theme for 2017 is Put Your Best Fork Forward, meaning that we need to remember that each bite counts. Making small changes in our food choices and eating habits can make a big difference over time. Stay tuned for more nutrition tips throughout the month and check out the following sources for great information about nutrition for the whole family. www.eatright.org www.choosemyplate.gov

OHS Youth Arts Festival: March 31 st and April 1 st 7:00 @ OAC www.youthartsfest.weebly.com

o o o o o o o o This year it s a two night event. Each night is identical in terms of films shown. Saturday night will have an awards ceremony following the showing. Friday, March 31st 7:00PM- doors open at 6:30 PM Saturday, April 1st 7:00PM with awards- doors open at 6:30 Audience participation is key this year due to voting which will take place both nights. This will lead to culminating results to establish the winners in each category and overall best film. Saturday night is a tremendous night because the votes will be in and awards will be presented after the viewing. Film directors are specifically invited to come Saturday to celebrate their hard work and dedication to the arts. However, the cool thing about this year is that anyone can view the films twice! We have a new website where students can access information and submit films: www.lakecountryfilmfestival.org Every ticket purchased allows students access to the film festival, youth arts festival, and an opportunity to vote. Last year, the fest was limited to three hours on a Friday night, and this year it has grown into a weekend event with multiple venues, exhibitions, and exciting opportunities for all arts. More schools are submitting films, and we re encouraging all community members to come and view what youth in Southeastern Wisconsin are creating!
