Belcher Road, #238 Clearwater, FL 33761 (727) 724-3082 www.flasports.com Nearly 900 Florida athletes at 2017 National Senior Games The State of Florida will have its best showing at the National Senior Games since 1999 with a total of 870 athletes over the age of 50 competing in 19 sports of the 2017 National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama. The biennial event began Saturday, June 2 and concludes on Thursday, June 15 with over 10,000 athletes competing in the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Games that began in 1987.

The Florida athletes traveling to Birmingham qualified for the 2017 National Senior Games at the 2016 Florida Senior Games last December in Clearwater and Pinellas County. Since 2001, nearly 4,000 Florida athletes have travelled to the National Senior Games. Sports Industry Professionals Gather at FSF Sports Summit in Palm Beach County The 2017 FSF Sports Summit celebrated the state's $57 billion sports industry while bringing together representatives from 22 Florida s Sports Commissions and Sports Events Rights Holders from around the country. Almost 30 presenters from a variety of sports shared their information with Florida s finest sports tourism promoters throughout the day at the Jupiter Beach Resort and Spa. The FSF also presented six awards to recognize Florida communities and sports commissions for their outstanding efforts in sports tourism in the State of Florida. The events were awarded or held between April 1, 2016 and April 15, 2017. 2021 Super Bowl Makes an End Run to Florida NFL owners voted unanimously to shift Super Bowl LV, which will be played in February 2021, from Los Angeles to Tampa. The decision came after the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers announced heavy rainfall in southern California delayed construction and pushed the opening of the stadium they will share in Inglewood, back one year until 2020. The league has a rule prohibiting stadiums from hosting a Super Bowl until they have been operational for at least two seasons. As a result, Los Angeles is now scheduled to host Super Bowl LVI in February 2022. It will be the first NFL title game held in Tampa since 2009. Tampa also hosted Super Bowl XVII (1984), XXV (1991) and XXXV (2001).

NHL's Best to be Showcased at 2018 NHL All Star Game at Tampa's Amalie Arena The National Hockey League selected the Tampa Bay Lightning and the city of Tampa as hosts of the 2018 NHL All-Star. The League's mid-season showcase will take place at AMALIE Arena on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28 and will include the NHL All-Star Skills Competition and the NHL All-Star Game. The 2018 NHL All-Star Game marks the second time Tampa will host the event. The Lightning and Tampa previously hosted the NHL All-Star game in 1999, successfully welcoming thousands of NHL fans, executives and personalities to the city. Further details on 2018 NHL All-Star festivities, including ticket information, special events and television broadcasting information will be released at a later date. The 2018 NHL All-Star returns to a 3-on-3 tournament format after successful games in Nashville (2016) and Los Angeles (2017). Under the tournament rules, the NHL All-Star Game will be divided into three 20-minute games, with star players from each NHL division making up the four All-Star teams: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan. NFL Pro Bowl Returns to Orlando in 2018 The Pro Bowl will return to Camping World Stadium in Orlando in 2018 and will be moving the kickoff time from evening to the afternoon. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, and will be simulcast for the first time on ESPN and ABC. The NFL s all-star game was played in Orlando for the first time in 2017 and was well-received, not only for the signature event but a weeklong list of activities leading to it. The buildup, promoting all levels of football, will continue. Top Youth Rowers to Compete at Sarasota's Nathan Benderson Park An estimated 1,500 of the USA s top youth rowers will descend on Nathan Benderson Park for US Rowing s 21 st annual Youth National Championships being held June 9-11. The championships, which serve as the premier junior rowing event in the USA, sees approximately 1,500 athletes competing in more than 350 crews representing more than 150 teams from across the country vying for national titles in 18 boat classes.

Racing is scheduled to begin Friday at 8 a.m., in Sarasota, with time trial heats. Semifinals for events 9-18 will occur Friday afternoon. Semifinals will continue at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning for events 1-8. C and D Finals will follow on Saturday. Sunday will begin at 8 a.m. with A finals, followed by B finals. All-Star Worthy Baseball in Florida in June As the Major League Baseball calendar counts down to the 2017 All-Star Game in Miami in July, the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays combine for 21 June home games as the Mid-Season Classic nears. The Marlins have two games against the Oakland Athletics (6/13-14), three against the Washington Nationals (6/19-21), four against the Chicago Cubs (6/22-25) and three vs. the New York Mets (6/27-29). The Rays play the Athletics for three games (6/9-11), a three-game interleague series against the Cincinnati Reds (6/19-21) and three games against the Baltimore Orioles (6/23-25). Be sure to fill out a 2017 All-Star Game Ballot for your favorite Marlins and Rays players and watch the 2017 Game and Festivities that will be taking place at Marlins Park. The 2017 Florida State League All Star Game will be played Saturday, June 17 at Lakeland's Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, home of the Lakeland Flying Tigers and spring training home for the Detroit Tigers. Sarasota County Another Step Closer to Welcoming Atlanta Braves Spring Training The push to bring Atlanta Braves spring training baseball to Sarasota County cleared its last local hurdle, as the West Villages Improvement District board unanimously approved the facilities operating and non-relocation agreements between the Braves and Sarasota County. With all approvals in place the Braves will hold their annual spring training in North Port through 2048 at an 8,000 seat stadium, practice facilities and multiuse fields located on U.S. 41 and River Road. The Last Word: The 2017 Souvenir Program will be distributed to athletes of the 19 sports contested during the month of June.
