BC MBA Games 206 to /?tala/ "li&i Jvtv In 205, Vancouver Island University's MBA Society hosted the inaugural BC MBA Games in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The BC MBA Games 205 hosted over 00 MBA Students fro m Universities across BC. The participants were from University of B ritish Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Thompson Rivers University, University of Victoria and Vancouver Island University. The them e fo r the 205 BC MBA Games was to Connect. Inspire. Impact, and to g e th e r the BC MBA co m m u n ity had raised over $0,000 for fam ilies living with autism and special needs. Vancouver Island University took first place followed by Thompson Rivers University in second place. This year the BC MBA Games Cup and the Mann s Cup (highest fundraising school) is up for grabs. 6 %'ba W4 The MBA Games Organizing Committee (MGOC) at Vancouver Island University is proud to announce and host the second BC MBA Games in 206. The BC MBA Games has now become an annual event, and w ill be hosted in Nanaimo, B ritish Columbia. Each participating MBA School w ill be competing fo r the BC MBA Games Cup and the Mann's Cup fo r the Spirit Team Fundraising Challenge. It is the largest annual gathering of MBA students in British Columbia. It is an energetic weekend where MBA students fro m across the province participate with integrity in Academic, Athletic and Spirit competitions, showcasing th e ir abilities and ambition. The them e of the event is supporting fam ilies w ith children stru gg lin g and fighting cancer. Childhood Cancer Canada has been selected as our provincial Com m unity Partner. We are excited to invite your University to be a part of continuing BC history. A ll fundraising p rio r to the BC MBA Games w ill be donated to this organization. CHILDHOOD CANCER CANADA Over 0,000 children in Canada are heroically battling childhood cancer today. Cancer in kids is mostly found in the blood brain and bones and is deadlier than any other disease. Yet only 3% of all cancer research funds in Canada go specifically into childhood cancer research. Childhood Cancer Canada helps fund Canada's best life saving childhood cancer research. The organization provides vital program s fo r children struggling with cancer. These include a 'scholarship p ro g ra m fo r childhood cancer survivors, in form a tion a l 'e m p o w e r packs directly to the doors of newly diagnosed kids, and arrange connectivity program s for fam ilies living with childhood cancer across Canada. Registration is $200 per person, to a m axim u m of 24- participants, and $300 per coach to a m axim um of 2 coaches. The registration fee includes accomdoation for 2 nights at the Coast Bastion as w e ll as meals and transprotation during the events. To confirm participation, schools w ill be required to register and make a c o m m itm e n t deposit of $700 by August 25, 206. You w ill be responsible fo r sending one certified cheque fo r the total outstanding registration costs for yo ur team to Vancouver Island University s Faculty of Management. Final payments m ust be received by S eptem ber 20, 206. Late registration w ill be $250 per partcipant or $400 per coach. The m a te ria l fo r the Strategy and Entrepreneurship cases w ill be released on the m orning of the case event and w ill be presented thereafter. Teams of no more than fo u r (4) and not less than three (3) w ill be required to present the cases to a panel of pro m in en t judges fro m the BC business community. Pecha Kucha - Saturday October 22, 206 Pecha Kucha is the art of a concise presentation of storytelling. It has a simple fo rm a t where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance autom atically and you ta lk along to the images. A team of fou r (4) participants fro m each school w ill be required to make a presentation in the Pecha Kucha style. Teams w ill have two weeks in advance to prepare for this competition. Details on the topic of the presentation w ill be shared in upcoming com m unications. The Sports Com petitions The two athletic com petitions w ill be Dodgeball and Canoe Races. They w ill both emphasize the elem ents of te a m w o rk and sportsm anship. Dodgeball - Saturday October 22, 206 6-8 players required to participate A game in which players on two team s try to throw balls at each o th e r while avoiding being hit themselves. The team w ith the most players not hit at the end of the game wins! Canoe Race - Sunday October 23, 206 6-8 players required to participate Note - The above are the n u m b e r of players in play at any one time, and team s m ust be co-ed w ith a m in im u m of males and fem ales playing at a ll times. A separate Sports package highlighting the rules and regulations for each event w ill be emailed to the respective Team Leaders a fter the co m m itm e n t deposit has been received. The Spirits Competitions Fundraising Team Challenge - p r i o r to the BC MBA Games Each team w ill be required to raise money that w ill be contributed towards the charity. Teams w ill be awarded sp irit points fo r the d o lla r amount raised per team member. Whichever team raises the most dollars per m e m b e r wins the most points and claim s the Mann Cup. Opening Ceremony - Friday October 2, 206 Each respective school is to develop a min ute video of w h a t 'A Jo ur n ey to New Heights' means to them and this w ill be followed by opening re m a rk s presented by Team Captains. Videos w ill be scored as part of the competition; schools w ill be awarded points based on a criteria that w ill be emailed to a ll Team Captains, once the initial deposit has been made. More details on the Opening Ceremony w il l be available in upcoming com m unications. Mystery Competition - Saturday October 22, 206 A m in im u m of 6 m e m b e rs per team is required to participate in the event to receive Spirit points. Please note that m e m b e rs participating in the com petition w ill not be able to participate in eithe r the case or the sports com petition of this day. Points w ill only be allocated to the top 2 teams. The mystery event w ill be announced in the m orning of the competition day.
