The prediction of 60 plus degree weather the weekend of the 18th & 19th. prompted Brett to quickly put a 100 bird registered FITASC event together for that weekend. The weather was even nicer than predicted and the event drew 94 shooters. Great weather and great Northbrook type FITASC targets made for a great weekend. The monthly sporting clays event drew over 100 shooters the following weekend. We just sent out a Quick Shot for the State FITASC & Super Sporting Clays Championship in August. This year with the help of FIOCCHI you can call this event that runs from August 23rd. to the 27th, FITASC on Steroids. Our members will have the opportunity to shoot 500 FITASC targets over 5 days and also 250 Super Sporting targets over the same 5 days! You can register for this event on Winscore, and I would suggest that you do so earlier than later as FITASC events at Northbrook typically sell out. We have placed an order for 6 NEW Cushman Hauler 800X carts, this is a nicer cart than what we have been renting and will improve our members experience. We will keep some of the newer carts that we own in the rental fleet and take out the marginal carts and keep them as work carts. Our intention is to purchase 18 of these carts over the next 3 years. Our cart rental program has been a successful venture and is paying for itself. We continue to attract new members to our club, in February we added 10 new members. Their names are listed in the minutes, please introduce yourself to them and welcome them. As I mentioned last month the kitchen is doing very well, take the time to enjoy one of Jennifer s breakfast s or lunches, you will enjoy it. We are going to have a Spring Clean Up Day for the members to help-out cleaning up the club. The date has not been selected, but we will let you know when and if you would like to help, please sign up. Spring & Summer are on the way, get out and enjoy some time at your club. See you there. Larry
Manager s Report February 2017 We have kept busy throwing a record number of targets in February, 50,000 more than last year! To put it is perspective, last month s 160,000 casual target total would have been a great June or July total 5 years-ago. This number excludes two well-attended events and we don t know quite what to expect when the busy season comes. Seeing the clubhouse full, and the courses and fields packed, has really shortened the feel of this winter. We have some great events at NSC this year and I m betting that NSC members take home a fair share of the wins, considering the practicing they ve been getting. The NSSA and NSCA All-American, all-region and All-State Teams are being completed and next month I will post the sizable list of NSC members who made the grade in 2016. If you ve never shot a Northbrook event, Spring is the time to give it a try, it s a great way to meet people, have some fun and hone your game. Both our Skeet and Sporting Committees will help you get started and both Associations offer a free 1-year membership to shooters who have never competed. Our events are the best run in the country and none of our members should miss out the fun of some good-natured competition. Our experienced shooters would be happy to squad with you the first time out and we can always find room on a squad, just show up! Our new card system is complete in all venues at NSC including skeet and trap. An NSC member can now carry a proximity card with targets on it and shoot any venue on the property, no more coins and frozen/broken coin-boxes! We have experienced very few issues with it, more operator-error than anything and we worked the few bugs out very quickly. Member comments have been positive, and the staff has been trained on it. Please ask at the front desk if you need a quick tutorial. We are continuing our trade-in program on Skeet and Sporting clays machines in 2017 and have rebuilt two of our ATA traps and are in the process of updated a third and a spare. Our machine program recycles 25% of our machines every year and economically keeps all our throwers in warrantee and throwing less than 1/2 % no-birds. Our Directors have voted to institute a similar program with our golf cart fleet and has recommended buying 6 brand-new carts per year, for the next three years. We have been purchasing (2) 8-year-old carts a year, and out of the 14 we have, it seems one or two are always out of service. The Cart rental program is cash-positive and I think it s a great idea to upgrade the quality now that we ve established that it can pay for itself.
Northbrook Sports Club Board Meeting Minutes February 15, 2017 Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by Denison. Officers in attendance: Jim Holland, Tom Sweeney and Jason Cranmer. Directors present: John Estep, Dan Grebel, Tom Lotus, Kerry Luft, Terry McLaughlin, Steve Patke, Andy Schusteff, and Mike Warkenthein. Motion to accept January 18, 2017 minutes by Denison Passed Presidents Report Denison Jennifer is doing a great job in the kitchen. The food service has been great and she also runs a catering business, please keep her in mind if you an event that may need her services. We want to retain Jennifer and keep her busy and happy. She has improved the quality of the food served which will increase the revenue. If you haven t tried the food yet you don t know what you are missing. Manager s Report - Brett Seibert The five-year plan has been adjusted to reflect the water filtration rental and the new ice maker will be here soon. We purchased a sandwich condiment station, stainless steel table, and we will be adding a countertop to move the soda machine and coffee station from the kitchen to the great room side. All of our vehicles are running well and the card system is working from field 4-11, 1-3 is next. All of the fields will have tournament play when we host large events. We were looking at a lease program to upgrade our rental carts (to match our club image) but purchasing the carts is a better deal in the long run. We are looking to add 12-18 carts over the next three years. Treasurers Report Jim Holland Review of the P&L statement but we don t have all of the correct numbers because we are in the middle of membership, a little over 100 haven t renewed. The kitchen had an income of $6,800 and an expense of $11,000. Pro Shop is up, casual shooting is doing OK and labor and expenses holding steady.
Building and Grounds Denison I have signed and returned the contract for our fertilization, weed control, and tree spraying with Davey Tree for the line.
