Direct Athlete Support 1. AMOUNT AWARDED: $820,000 2. ELIGIBILITY AND CRITERIA APPROVED FOR DIRECT ATHLETE SUPPORT: There will be two levels of support for regular DAS stipends totaling $660,000: (1) Performance and (2) Training. In addition, $160,000 will be directed towards supplemental training stipends as described below. DAS Stipends ($660,000) Support Details: Grants awarded will be $1,700/month for the duration of the eligibility period. Grants awarded will be $1,300/month for the duration of the eligibility period. Funds will be distributed the first week of each month via the USOC. Direct Athlete Support funds are not secured beyond the term of this agreement. Eligibility Period: Criteria: January 1, 2017 May 31, 2018 This eligibility period will be broken up into the following three periods: Period 1: January 1, 2017 May 31, 2017 Period 2: June 1, 2017 September 30, 2017 Period 3: October 16, 2017 May 31, 2018 Period 1: January 1, 2017 - May 31, 2017
Returning 2016 Olympians who are training to compete at the 2017 World Championships. Currently training under the direct supervision of US Rowing Women s or Men s National Team coaches OR with oversight from the Director of Athlete o A minimum of 16 Training grants will be awarded in Period 1. Period 2a: June 1, 2017 September 30, 2017 Returning 2016 Olympians who are training to compete at the 2017 World Championships. Currently training under the direct supervision of US Rowing Women s or Men s National Team coaches OR with oversight from the Director of Athlete Winning boat classes in Olympic events at the NSR 1 and 2 will be considered depending on percentage to Gold Medal Standard and the rest of the field. o A minimum of 20 Training grants will be awarded in Period 2. Period 2b: June 1, 2017 September 30, 2017 June and July - Winners of the W2x, LM2x and the LW2x boat
classes at the 2017 National Selection Regatta 2 competition in West Windsor, USA (May 20-23) will receive a DAS stipend in June and July. August and September Winners of the W2x, LM2x and the LW2x boat classes at the 2017 World Championship Trials competition in West Windsor, USA (August 6-9) will receive a DAS stipend in August and September. Period 3: October 16, 2017 May 31, 2018 Placement of 1-3 at the 2017 World Championships* and will continue training for the 2018 World Championships. Placement of 4-7 at the 2017 World Championships* and will continue training for the 2018 World Championships OR Additional consideration for: o Placement of 8 At the 2017 World Championships* o Currently training under the direct supervision of US Rowing Women s or Men s National Team coaches OR with oversight from the Director of Athlete Development and Performance. * To be considered for performance or training stipends in Period 3, athletes must place in the top 50% of the field in their boat class at the 2017 World Championships. For example, if an athlete(s) places 7 th in his/her boat class, there must be a total of 14 entries in that boat class to receive a training stipend.
Supplemental Training Stipends ($160,000) Approximately $84,000 o Will be awarded to returning and currently training athletes (who are earning 2017 DAS in Period 1) who earned a medal at any of the following competitions: 2016 Olympic Games 2012 Olympic Games 2015 World Championships 2014 World Championships 2013 World Championships o $6,000 will be awarded per athlete per medal earned at an Olympic Games. o $2,000 will be awarded per athlete per medal earned at a World Championships. o Payments will be distributed via a one-time payment to athletes in June 2017. Approximately $28,000 o Will be awarded to the winners of the W1x, M1x, W2x, M2x, LW2x and LM2x classes at the 2017 World Championship Trials competition in West Windsor, USA (August 6-9) or the winners if the W2- and M2- classes at the 2017 National Selection Regatta 2 competition in West Windsor, USA (May 20-23). o $2,000 will be awarded per athlete. o Payments will be distributed to athletes the following month after each competition listed above (May 29 and August 14). $13,000 o Will be awarded to athletes training in the funded boat classes pool (LW2x,LM2x,) o $1,300 will be awarded per athlete o Payments will be distributed to athletes each month beginning in June 2017 and through World Championships 2017. Approximately $26,600 o Will be added and awarded to the training pool for athletes training for the W8, W2-, W4x, W4-, M8, M4 classes. o $1,300 will be awarded per athlete
o Payments will be distributed to athletes each month beginning in June 2017 and through December 2017. Any remaining funds o May be awarded to athletes based on the Olympic class results at the 2017 World Championships in Sarasota, USA (Sept 24-Oct 1) and through performances during competitions and training camps held in October-December 2017. 3. STIPULATIONS FOR DIRECT ATHLETE SUPPORT: Only athletes competing for an Olympic class boat category are eligible for DAS. An athlete may be removed from a payment period if it is determined that he/she is no longer training for an Olympic class boat category or not following the agreed upon training program. An athlete will be given a 30- day notice before removal and a final decision will be made by the High Performance Director and the High Performance Committee Athlete representatives. Each athlete recipient will be required to execute an agreement with the USOC, and may be required to also sign an agreement with SPORTS ORG, outlining the athlete s commitment with respect to training, drug testing, compliance with applicable athlete codes of conduct and other matters. Athletes receiving Direct Athlete Support are not intended third party beneficiaries of this Agreement. SPORTS ORG will consult with the USOC before eliminating or making changes in the Direct Athlete Support program. If the payments for Direct Athlete Support exceed the amount awarded, then SPORTS ORG will pay the difference via an invoice from the USOC. Direct Athlete Support funds are not secured beyond the term of this agreement. Monthly grants awarded January to March were released prior to the execution of this agreement per the 2017 Provisional Performance Partnership Agreement.
