@UPrepSkiBus 2017-2018 Ski Bus Program Information Due date: December 8, 2017 (no late registrations will be accepted) You must complete the following three requirements to participate: 1. Complete the program registration using the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/lrkuon8q0dbolnkx2. You can also find the link in the all-school emails or under forms on the families page on the UPrep website. 2. Submit your check for program registration/bus transportation to the UPrep Business Office. 3. Order lift passes, lessons and rentals as needed directly from a special portal on the Stevens Pass website: https://www.stevenspass.com/site/groups/group-multiweekprograms. The special access code for UPrep is UPR1718. Purchasing your pass, lessons, and rentals The cheapest pass option for students who only ski or snowboard during ski bus is the powder pack. The powder pack is a four-day pass that will cover all the ski bus dates. Other lift ticket options including season passes are available. Most pass options are further discounted for students enrolled in lessons. Who do I contact with questions or for help? Help with the Stevens Pass lift tickets, lessons, or rental purchases: Tana Ferrell, special programs coordinator at Stevens Pass tana.ferrell@stevenspass.com or 206---812---7349 Bus transportation, chaperone requests, or attendance: Andy Richardson, UPrep ski bus coordinator arichardson@universityprep.org or 206-525-2714 x 126 Financial aid: Michele Hayes, director of financial aid mhayes@universityprep.org or 206---832---1118

Program Overview Dates and time frame We have four Friday ski bus trips: January 12, 26 February 2, 9 3:00 PM we load the buses immediately after school and aim to leave by 3:10. We will arrive at Stevens Pass between 5:00 and 5:30, depending upon traffic. 6:30 PM lessons begin. Lessons end at 8:00. Enrolled students meet their instructor in front of the Stevens Pass Ski School building. 9:30 PM buses will reopen to load for return trip. All students must be on board by 9:45. 11:15 PM we arrive at the Eastside drop off site between 11:15 and 11:30. Parents expecting an Eastside drop off must be there when the bus arrives. 11:45 PM we arrive back at UPrep between 11:45 and midnight. Expectations Students are expected to follow UPrep behavior guidelines at all times. Participation in this program is a privilege and not a right or guarantee. Safety is paramount. Remember, you are representing UPrep at all times. It is your responsibility to know and obey all mountain rules, signs and employees. Stay inbounds, ski/board within your ability, with a buddy, where it is lit. Cancellations There will be no refunds for cancellations. In the event the ski bus is cancelled due to ski area closure or other unforeseen events (school closure, highway/road conditions, etc.) this fee is non-refundable. Gear storage at school Make sure all gear is clearly labeled with your name. Each Friday morning, bring your gear to the fence down the stairs behind the Puma statue, outside the classroom building. Lean the skis and snowboards up in the ski racks provided. Ski bags and boots must be stored in either your locker or on the landing between the Math and English floors. You cannot leave your bags in the hallway. Renters When you get your gear, be sure to write down or take a photo of the serial number of your skis or snowboard in the event they get picked up by someone else or left behind.

During school Change into your long underwear during lunch. You will not have time to change between school ending and the ski bus departure. You cannot change into your long underwear on the bus. Dress code rules apply at all times. Student cars in the parking lot All ski bus participant s cars must be moved to the Dahl Field parking lot before students and chaperones board the buses. The Temple needs both the campus lots and spaces along 25th Ave NE for Friday evening services. Car prowls have occurred in this parking lot on ski bus nights. Students should not leave computers, backpacks, etc. in their cars. Valuables can be left in lockers and retrieved at the end of the evening. Friday Night Outline 2:50 PM loading the bus Put your backpack in your locker. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING IN THE PUMADOME, HALLWAYS, OR COMMONS. Take your gear to the bus (lots of gear looks alike so make sure you only take your own gear). The buses will be at the Dahl Field parking lot. Buses will line up #1---4 in order heading north. All skis/poles/boards must be stored under the bus. Never lean ski equipment against the bus. You must show your ski pass to the chaperone as you enter the bus. Be prepared for every seat to be full. If a seat says reserved for chaperone or reserved for senior do not move the sign and do not put your stuff on that seat. No boots in the overhead compartments. Keep the aisle clear at all times. On the bus Clean up after yourself. Garbage bags will be provided. Bringing snacks and water is recommended. All snacks must be peanut---free. One person to a seat and you must sit in the seat. We recommend you bring fun movies to show on the bus. There are regular DVD players (no Bluray). Movies can be G or PG, with staff---approval of PG---13 movies. No scary movies! Behave appropriately no yelling, throwing, inappropriate behavior or language, or public displays of affection. Each ski bus will have at least two chaperones on board. Students must adhere to all chaperone requests. Failure to do so may result in having your lift ticket revoked or suspension from the ski program. Once we are 20 minutes from the mountain (tunnel at Money Creek Campground) we will let you know that you can change into your ski clothes and boots.

5:30 PM arrive at the mountain Unloading Lots of gear looks alike. Make sure you only take your own gear off the bus, not just gear that looks like yours. If you realize you made a mistake, you need to report to the chaperone table in the Granite Peaks Lodge. Rentals If you signed up for rentals you will get your rental equipment on your first trip to Stevens. Rentals must be picked up at the rental office. A chaperone will meet all renters in the parking lot and escort you to the rental office on that first night. You will need to remember to pick up your shoes and bring home the rented ski boots on your first trip up. Lessons and clinics Lessons are 90 minutes long. Lessons begin at 6:30 pm at the Stevens Pass Ski School (directly behind gear check) and end at 8:00 pm. Attendance is taken at lessons. Safety Safety first! Skiers/boarders are expected to know and follow the rules of conduct posted at Stevens. Remember, absolutely no off trail skiing and always ski within control. Never ski or ride alone be with a buddy at all times. If an injury occurs, the buddy should notify a lift operator who will dispatch ski patrol. A UPrep chaperone will check ski patrol every 30 minutes. Students are to ski only on lit patrolled slopes. Under no circumstances should a student wander off into unlit and unpatrolled areas. Violators of this rule will be removed from the ski bus program. If you ski or board out of bounds, you are off the program. Boundaries are defined by the ski patrol, not the students. Ticket or pass issues If you have any problems with your pass (including forgetting to bring your pass), go to Guest Relations located on the main floor of Granite Peaks Lodge. Gear check We strongly encourage each participant to check their gear at the gear check area when they are not on the slopes. The cost is $3 for in/out privileges all night. Gear check is free and required for all renters. Locker rentals If you have extra gear (besides your skis, poles or board) you can rent a locker in one of the lodges. You will not be able to get back on the bus until 9:30 pm. You cannot store gear at the chaperone table.

If you need help For non-injuries, questions not pertaining to your ticket/pass, or have a pre-arranged pickup: go to the chaperone table upstairs in Granite Peaks Lodge. Prearranged pick up at Stevens Parents must email Andy Richardson prior to 1:30 pm on Friday with the name of the adult picking up your student. Pick up must happen at the chaperone table at Granite Peaks Lodge before 9:15 pm and adults must be prepared to show ID. Injuries If someone you are skiing with is injured, immediately send a skier down to notify the nearest lift operator. Ski patrol is located around the backside of Granite Peaks Lodge. If a student is involved in an accident, ski patrol will notify his/her parents as soon as the details of the accident are known. Should ski patrol decide that transport needs to be by ambulance, parents will be notified and such transport will be at the parent s expense. Major causes of accidents are skiing/boarding too fast, re-injuries, poorly adjusted equipment, fatigue, lack of instruction, or failure to ski in a safe manner. Stay in control! Revoked passes Any student who has their ticket revoked (taken away) during the evening by a Stevens Pass employee or ski patrol officer (typically for reckless skiing or foul language), will be either suspended from their next ski trip, or permanently removed from the program. Parents and school administrators will be notified. 9:30 PM loading the bus Buses are not open during the evening; you cannot get back on the bus until 9:30 pm. A chaperone must be present before students can board the bus. When entering the bus, kick the snow off your boots on the right front tire (NOT the edge of the step). Never place wet or snow covered items in the overhead compartments above the seats. No boots in the overhead compartments. Clean up after yourself. Garbage bags will be provided. 11:15 PM Eastside drop off The Eastside drop off site is located at the South Kirkland park and ride (10610 NE 38th Pl, Kirkland, WA 98033) and is an optional drop off site for those living on the Eastside. Parents need to be present at this site when the buses arrive. If you are late, the bus will take your student back to school. 11:45 PM arrive back at UPrep Parents for student safety, please do not park on 25th Ave NE along the Dahl Field parking lot. That is where we will have the buses pull over to unload. We will arrive at approximately

11:45---midnight. The main building and the classroom building will be open for students to pick up their school bags. What to pack Label your gear! If you are a skier, tie your skis together so they do not get separated or tangled. Tie poles together. Rental equipment often looks the same, so label everything. Try on all gear before you hit the slopes to make sure it still fits. Bring extra gear just in case you get wet or cold. Suggested packing list: Skis and poles/snowboard Warm hat Sack dinner or money to buy dinner Boots Goggles Snacks (peanut---free) Ticket/pass Warm layers (sweater, fleece) Water bottle Jacket Thermal under layers Hand warmers Gloves Ski socks Any required medication Helmet Plastic bag for wet gear Getting equipment ready for the season Inadequate equipment is unsafe. Bindings should be adjusted at a ski shop before the season begins. Student s weight changes and bindings also become stiff and screws get loose if not maintained. Lost and found All lost and found will be taken to the UPrep main office at the end of the night. FAQ s About the UPrep Ski Program General program questions: What are the ski bus dates for 2018? January 12, January 26, February 2, February 9. Each trip is approximately 3:00 PM-midnight. Do I have to know how to ski or snowboard in order to participate? No! Many students join who have never been on skis before. Novice skiers/snowboarders must sign up for lessons, however. Stevens Pass Ski School has well-qualified instructors with a student/teacher ratio of about 6:1.

Is financial aid available for this program? Yes. The student must be a current UPrep student and their family must already qualify for and receive financial aid. For registration, please see Michele Hayes in the Admissions office: 206-525-1118 or mhayes@universityprep.org. Is the program well chaperoned? Yes. UPrep faculty, staff, alumni, parents and community members all serve as chaperones. At least one chaperone is on-call at all times during the evening in the Granite Peaks Lodge should any emergency arise. Can I chaperone? Of course! Chaperones are provided a free lift ticket in return for their services, which include taking attendance on the bus, keeping the bus ride orderly and clean and taking turns being oncall in the lodge for emergencies. Contact Andy Richardson at arichardson@universityprep.org if you are interested in volunteering and fill out the volunteer background check forms found on the website under the Inside UPrep in the Parents/Families section. Background check forms should be returned to the main office. May I come up for only one or two times if I am unable to sign up for the entire season? Yes. However, you must register ahead of time. You must be pre-registered to attend any of the ski bus dates. Registration deadline is December 8, 2017. What if I can t attend one of the dates for which I registered? Unfortunately, there are no refunds for missed ski bus dates. Please email Andy Richardson at arichardson@universityprep.org as early as possible if you are going to miss a ski bus date. Do I need to wear a helmet? We do not require students to wear helmets to be in the program; however, helmets are generally recognized as essential safety gear for skiers and snowboards and therefore recommended. Can I be picked up at Stevens Pass? In general, these situations are pre-arranged by the parents/guardians prior to the trip departure and is approved depending on the situation. Please notify Mr. Richardson at arichardson@universityprep.org as soon as possible so that your situation can be evaluated. The bottom line is that the school needs to be released of any responsibility and liability. If I didn t sign up for rentals, can I still rent from Stevens Pass? Yes. Rentals can be purchased directly from Stevens Pass using the link of the first page of this document. If you have questions please contact Tana Ferrell, the special programs coordinator at Stevens Pass, at tana.ferrell@stevenspass.com. What if I have a question or issue with my pass, rentals or lessons? Contact Tana Ferrell, the special programs coordinator at Stevens Pass at tana.ferrell@stevenspass.com.

May I cancel ski lessons if I decide I don t want them later in the season? In general, no, except in the event of an injury that a doctor says will exclude you from participating. Attendance will be taken each lesson. There are one-time clinics available for more advanced skiers and boarders. If you have questions about lessons or clinic contact Tana Ferrell, the special programs coordinator at Stevens Pass, at tana.ferrell@stevenspass.com. Questions about Friday evenings: How, when and where do we bring ski gear? On Friday mornings, students will be responsible for bringing all of their gear for that evening. We will store skis and snowboards along the fence down the stairs from the Puma statue. Ski bags and boots can be stored in student lockers or on the landing in the classroom building (between the English and Math floors). Bags cannot be stored in hallways or in PE locker rooms. Equipment may not be stored for longer periods of time unless we have to suddenly cancel a trip due to poor conditions. When do I change into my ski clothes and boots? Change into your long underwear prior to boarding the bus. When we reach the tunnel approximately 20 miles from the ski area, you will be given permission to get up and change into your boots and ski clothes. What about my school backpack? Leave your backpacks in your lockers before we depart for Stevens. Do not leave anything in the Pumadome! Upon our return, the Commons and Classroom buildings will be opened to let everyone get their school bags. What time does the bus leave and return to school? The bus departs at 3:10 pm from Dahl Field (loading begins immediately after school). On the return trip, we will stop on the Eastside at the South Kirkland park and ride at approximately 11:30 pm. The buses will arrive back at UPrep at approximately 11:45-midnight. Where is the Eastside pickup? The Eastside drop off site is located at the South Kirkland park and ride (10610 NE 38th Pl, Kirkland, WA 98033) and is an optional drop off site for those living on the Eastside. Parents need to be present at the site when the buses arrive. If parents are late, the bus will take your student back to school. Buses will arrive at the Eastside drop off site at approximately 11:30 pm. Directions: Heading West on 520 (toward Seattle): Exit 520 on 108 th Street. Turn right at the bottom of the off---ramp to head North on 108 th Street. Proceed through stoplight at Northrup Way. Continue one more block up the hill and the park and ride is on your left (NE 38 th Pl).

Heading East on 520 (toward Redmond): From Seattle, take the 520 bridge toward Bellevue. Take the Bellevue Way/ Lake Washington Blvd exit. At the light make a left onto Lake Washington Blvd. Turn right onto NE 38 th Pl. The park and ride will be on your left. Any additional questions? Please contact the 2018 UPrep ski bus coordinator, Andy Richardson, at arichardson@universityprep.org or 206-525-2714 x 126. See you on the slopes!
