This month I would like to send out a special thank you to all of our new members. Since last fall the following people have joined us: Owen O'Neil, Thomas Millette, Jan Wegrzynek, Marty Jacque, Jelissa Rivas, Jonathan Roy, Mark Quinn, Damon Accardi, Rory Sullivan, Ted Brown, Thomas Manning, Robert Churchill, Paul Pelletier, Chris Russell, John Medeiros, Nancy Bowyer, John Shea, Matt Condon, Kris Wojtowicz, James Guilbault, Joe Lafleur, Judy Pabis, Derek Kumpulanian, Nasser Zebian, Jamil Harb, Dan Moore, Andy Wall, Phillip Castonguay, Vincent Salemi, Evan Mascaro, Alan Martin, Scott Heim, Nick Ottomaniello, Greg Morin, Susan Netter, James Roncarati, Daniel Jacque, Virginia Leung, David Donnelly, Adam Fisher, Ryan Hess, Dana Sherokow, Armand Koher. Apologizes if we missed anyone but make no mistake, we are happy to have you here at CCW. I look forward to seeing you not just next spring, but I hope to see you during the off season at one of our events. Hopefully it will be a short winter and we ll all be back playing golf by early spring. Every year through normal attrition we lose a few members, usually around 5% to 7%. With our budget so tight and member sensitive, we will be trying to reduce that and will need, as usual, to replace the few with new members. I hope that each and everyone one of you will make a commitment to return as members for 2015. It just wouldn t be as fun if you didn t! by Rick Miller Our website states The Country Club of Wilbraham has evolved into one of the most appealing and enjoyable clubs in Western Massachusetts. I personally really believe this, I have made so many friends at our club since joining over 20 years ago. Tina and I have now have close friends that are members in their 20 s, 30 s, 40 s, 50 s, 60 s, 70 s, and 80 s. We can be seen playing golf with singles, couples, high handicappers and low handicappers, you name it. That s what it is like to be a member of... one of the most appealing and enjoyable clubs in Western Massachusetts. You will also often find us in the 19 th hole or dining room sharing great food and drinks, laughing and trying to solve the problems of the world. This is also what it is like to be a member of... one of the most appealing and enjoyable clubs in Western Massachusetts. One thing I am always have a hard time understanding is how few members actually take advantage of our dining service. It has been estimated that only 1/3 of the members use our food service on a regular basis. Last week I over heard someone say This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food quality and the pricing can t be beat. So to the 2/3 of you who don t know what they are missing I invite you to join us this off season on Friday night s when the menu changes each week or on Sunday morning where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast. Again, thank you for making my first year as your President an enjoyable one. I think together we accomplished a lot and had a great year. See you at CCW. The Officers and the entire Board of Directors invite you to attend the Annual Meeting of the Country Club of Wilbraham. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will include a review of all club matters. Please join us for an informative update of CCW.

I am in my office weekdays during the winter months and am available to answer questions, process payments, make changes to accounts, etc. Or, just stop by for a cup of coffee with friends who might be interested in joining CCW. I hope everyone enjoys their winter months and holidays. I look forward to seeing you in the spring! GOLF COMMITTEE by Ed Prystupa This fall was a great ending to the 2014 golf season. We had great weather with not many frost delays. The Thursday night golf event added to the golf season. This was enjoyed by all who played. Page 3 HANDICAP COMMITTEE Here it is November and by the time you read this the Turkey Shoot tournament will be history and the end of golf season is near. The cold weather and snow will soon be here. For those of you heading south, hope the weather is warm. For the rest of you stay warm, relax and enjoy the holidays. Don t forget to work out to stay in shape for the next golf season. It will be here sooner than you know. QUIZ FOR NOVEMBER 1. In stroke play, a player strikes his ball into a water hazard. He finds two balls where he expects his ball to be, neither is identifiable, and the position of either ball interferes with the play of the other. One ball is likely to be his and the other could be that of a fellow competitor or an abandoned ball. What is the ruling? a. He must select one of the balls and play it according to the Rules. b. He must discontinue play and call for a member of the committee. c. He may lift either ball to identify it following the procedure specified in Rule 12-2. 2. In stroke play, a player s ball lies in a flowerbed and he is uncertain if he is entitled to relief. He announces that he will play a second ball under the Rules. He plays the original ball as it lies and the second ball, taking relief under the ground under repair Rule. However, he fails to declare in advance with which ball he wishes to score. The committee confirms by Ed Prystupa that play from the flowerbed by a Local Rule that declares it to be ground under repair, from which relief without penalty is mandatory. What is the ruling? a. Since the first ball was not played according to the Rules, the score with the second ball counts without penalty. b. Since the first ball was not played according to the Rules, the score with the second ball counts with a two stroke penalty. c. Since he did not declare in advance which ball he would score with, the score with the original ball counts with a two stroke penalty. 3. Which of the following results in a player incurring a penalty? a. Touching the inside of the hole when measuring with a string to determine which ball is farther from the hole. b. Removing a small amount of dew from his line of putt. c. Touching the lip of the hole in repairing a ball mark on the rim of the hole. 4. SENIOR MENS GOLF Pro shop closes Friday, December 5, 2014. Please use your pro shop credits by this date. Thank you! by Bob Law It was a typical Turkey Shoot day; cloudy, cold, windy, and threatening rain. But 24 men gathered to brave the elements and play the Annual Senior Men s Turkey Shoot Scramble. Following the match, the men sat down to a turkey luncheon prepared by the Scully s. While the turkey shoot is the official conclusion of the Silver Knights schedule, our senior men will continue to gather on Wednesday mornings as long as the course is open for play. First group on the course in the spring, last off in the fall. As we conclude the 2014 golf season, we would be remiss not to thank all those who make playing golf at CCW such a wonderful experience: Dean and Jared in the golf shop, Scully Catering, Matt Kowal and his grounds crew, and the bag room gang. You all do a wonderful job and our sincere Thank You for a job well done. The 2015 schedule is in the process of being prepared.
