-FALL 2016- Important Information 1) Turn in Recheck Cards 2) Follow Summer Schedule (Optional) 3) Obtain NOCSAE approved shin guards 4) Attend Team Camp (Optional) 5) 1 st Day of Tryouts Monday August 15 (State Finals Sunday November 13) Hello Shaker Soccer Nation, Before we delve into all of the pertinent soccer information below, allow us to wish you all good luck on your final exams! Remember to study hard, get a good night s sleep, and wake up early enough to eat a healthy breakfast to ensure the best score possible. Do not worry about anything to do with soccer until your exams are done and you are officially on summer vacation. Now, let us formally welcome you to the 2016 Shaker Soccer season! The entire coaching staff is just as excited as you are for another fun and successful season to get underway. In order to tryout you must 1) Turn in Recheck Card to Health Office in person from July 18 August 5. 2) Health Office Summer Hours 8am 12pm (7/18 8/5). 6pm-8pm on 8/4 and 8/10. View the Health Office letter online for more information. 3) Free Physical Dates: June 8 and August 3 at Capital Region Health Park (711 Troy- Schenectady Road, Latham) starting at 5:30pm. Also, over the summer, it is imperative that everyone begins preparing for the upcoming season physically, technically and tactically. In order to help everyone prepare physically we have attached the Summer Opportunities Schedule as a guide to help you get into great soccer shape. In addition to being ready physically, we must be ready technically so everyone is invited to attend a Shaker Soccer Team Camp run by the Siena men s soccer coaching staff the week of Monday July 18 th. Lastly, to be ready tactically we will be scheduling 10 team open sessions at the Latham Circle Soccer Club fields for anyone planning on playing soccer who is entering grades 9-12. You must register at www.lathamsoccer.org to be covered by insurance and other liability issues. All summer sessions are voluntary! (The seniors are holding captain s practices for players entering grades 9-12 every Monday night at the LCSC fields from 6-730 starting Monday July 11 th. These are voluntary and are not coordinated by the coaching staff.) The season officially kicks off on Monday, August 15 th (7/8/9 Modified Sept. 1 st ). The schedule is on the attached calendar, but Varsity will be running two-a-days Monday through Saturday with Sundays off until school begins (Junior Varsity will have Saturday and Sunday off). Almost all preseason practices will be on the Fields. Due to the competitive nature of our squad, the first 3 days of preseason will be scheduled tryouts (The tryout period might be extended, but it will not be shortened). That means everyone will have 6 full sessions to demonstrate their abilities as a soccer player and as a teammate in front of the coaches. The tryout schedule and evaluation criteria are attached. 1
***For those underclassmen who are interested in trying out for a more advanced level: Everyone will tryout with their proper grade level with the only exception being 9 th graders trying out for JV who have the coach s permission. All of the coaching staff will be evaluating all levels and some exceptional players might be invited to contend for spots on the upper teams. This will be done on a case by case basis and discussed individually. Please bring the following to preseason 1) Lots of Water/Sports Drink 2) Socks AND Shin Guards (Must have Meets NOCSAE Standard Printed on them!!!) 3) Cleats AND Running Shoes 4) Towel/Extra Shirt/Extra Socks 5) Properly Inflated Soccer Ball As we begin building towards a successful 2016 campaign, it is important that we are all aware of our program s goals. The overarching goal for our program academically is to have a 90 average in every single class. s will not start until 3:30pm after school at the earliest so every player has the opportunity to stay after with a teacher every single day. As athletes we must remain focused on our academics in order to be successful beyond the playing field. The team goal is quite simple; it is to be the class of the league. It is an easy goal to say, but it is a goal that requires everyone to dedicate themselves and work together in order to achieve it. The mantra that all of the Shaker Soccer Program will embrace to help us on our mission is listed briefly below, but it will be explained, discussed, worked on, and improved throughout the season. These concepts apply well past the soccer field because as a member of Shaker Soccer everything you do represents this team, this school and this community. The 4 R s Respect the game Represent the school Relish the opportunity Rule the pitch Please do not hesitate to call or email us with any form of comment or question. We wish everyone an amazing summer that is safe, fun and relaxing. We look forward to seeing everyone throughout the summer and come August 15 th, we will be ready to go!
