You will not be penalized for being late. Shiloh Middle School is looking for positive, energetic, individuals who want to be leaders at SMS. The purpose of being a cheerleader is to promote school spirit and a positive school environment by participating at athletic events and extra-curricular activities. Grade Level Sixth graders who will be in seventh grade during the 2016-2017 school year, and current seventh graders expected to be in eighth grade during the 2016-2017 school year may tryout for cheerleading at SMS. Paper Work Each child needs to turn in a completed and signed forms located at the end of the packet on Tuesday upon arrival. Academic Standing candidates must maintain a GPA of 1.0 and they have to pass 75% of their classes. Clinics Candidates are strongly encouraged to attend each day of the pre-tryout clinic offered by SMS in order to be as well prepared as possible for tryouts. Should a candidate not be present at a clinic session, he/she is responsible for learning any missed material on his/her own time from other participants: clinic leaders are not permitted to provide make-up instruction. Tryouts Parents/Guardians are NOT permitted in the school building while the candidates are participating the cheerleading clinic or at the time of tryouts. Please wait for your child outside.
Items of attire have been carefully considered to ensure equity, affordability, and safety for the students during the tryout process. The tryout uniform is as follows: HAIR PULLED BACK NO JEWELRY Plain t-shirt with no visible logo Knit shorts, Plain, any color White socks Tennis shoes that lace and tie A smile! This is a list of the things that the judges will be looking for at tryouts. Girls may not open the envelope until they have left school property. Results are non-debatable.
Practice Practices will be held once to twice a week. Football cheer practice will be held after school, from 3:20 4:45. Basketball cheer practice will be held in the evening and be announced prior to the start of the season. Cheerleaders must attend every practice. Cheerleaders must be on time and attend the entire practice session. Attendance at Events Attendance at all scheduled home games is required. If a cheerleader is unable to attend an assigned activity, the advisor must be notified in advance of the absence with a written verification provided. Students with unexcused absences from cheerleading events (including practices) are subject to penalties and restrictions (refer to Discipline & Consequences section). Attendance at School In order to participate in a cheerleading event a student must be present at school for classes at least one half day on school days the day of the event. Cost Parents/Guardians are responsible for costs associated with cheerleading. Upon becoming a Cheerleader, it is your responsibility to cover the following costs: An estimate- Participation fee ($75.00) per squad Costs will vary due to fundraising Fundraising opportunities will be available throughout the summer Each cheerleader must have a physical Behavior It is the belief of both coach and our administrators that being a cheerleader is not only an honor; it is a privilege as well. Therefore, it is essential that cheerleaders chosen to represent Shiloh Middle School follow all school rules and regulations as disrespect for teachers, school staff, coach, fellow students, etc. will not be tolerated and may result in temporary or permanent dismissal from the squad. Academics Cheerleaders must maintain passing grade in 75% of their classes. If a cheerleader is unable to meet the academic expectation, they will be put on a three week academic probation, where at such time, grades will be monitored.
Permission Form My son/daughter has my permission to tryout to be a cheerleader at Shiloh Middle School. I have read the entire SMS Informational Packet and understand the contents within. I also understand: 1. Parents/Guardians, family, and friends are not allowed inside Shiloh Middle School during cheerleading clinics and tryouts. 2. All estimated costs associated with becoming a cheerleader. 3. I will not contest the final decision by the judges and coach. 4.
