T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT ASCOT ON SATURDAY, 2 NOVEMBER 2013 Meeting No: 77 Weather: Fine Track: Good 3 Penetrometer: 6.2 Rail: Out 3 Metres Stewards: B.W. Lewis, D.A. Hensler, H. Taylor (6), M. Kemp (FL), C. Brown (HO), P. B. Criddle (Form/Betting Analysis), C. G. Croll (BR) Veterinary Surgeons: Drs. R. Stone, C. McMullin Medical Officer: Dr. Y. M. Leong RACE 1: WESTSPEED BONUS STAYERS HANDICAP - 2100M ORA DARE (Ben Paterson) When questioned in relation to the performance, rider advised that due to the lack of exposed pace he was instructed to allow the gelding to stride forward from the start and to lead if no other runners elected to do so as it would not have been in its best interests to allow it to settle back in the field given the expected slow tempo. He advised that the gelding was obliged to work hard when racing three wide in the early stages before crossing to the lead near the 1600m and this effort may have told on the gelding over the final stages. GALAXY PRINCE (William Pike) Steadied near the 1600m. DUBAI ESCAPADE (Troy Turner) Raced wide from the 1000m. Rider expressed some disappointment in the performance as when ridden forward, it did not accelerate as expected and made the corner at the 400m awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. JIM N JIM (Joseph Azzopardi) Impeded for clear running on straightening. INSURGENCY (Daniel Staeck) Trainer Mr G. Delane was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance today as compared to its previous start at Ascot on 19 October 2013 when finishing in 6 th position. Trainer advised that at its previous start the gelding was crossed by other runners which displayed greater early pace in the early stages and as a result got back further in the field than he anticipated due to the leaders on that occasion establishing a greater margin over the remainder of the field, whereas today over an increased distance, the gelding was able to hold its position and race prominently. He further advised that due to it getting back in the field at its previous start, the gelding had to be ridden along from the 800m in an attempt to make ground which was in contrast to today where it had been able to relax when racing behind the leader and improve its position from the 400m. RACE 2: WESTSPEED 3YO HANDICAP - 1000M HENNESSEY RAIDER (Jerry Noske) Unsettled in the barriers before the start and got its head down immediately prior to the gates opening. Impeded when close to heels of another runner over the final stages. HUDSON RIVER (Chris Parnham) A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr G. Williams was of the opinion that it appeared that in his opinion the gelding was not suited by the distance of today s race and that it was his intention to nominate it for a 1400m race at its next start. HALUSA (Jarrad Noske) Rider reported that the colt had a tendency to shift away from other runners and raced greenly throughout running and moved inwards towards the running rail and as a result he pulled his whip through to his left hand at the 400m. Trainer Mr T. Andrews

READY ON TIME (Steven Parnham) Angled outwards across the heels of another runner near the 300m to obtain clear running. SATELLITE CITY (Jarrad Noske) A post race veterinary examination revealed it to have returned with cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr A. Durrant s representative was advised that the gelding would require a Veterinary Certificate of Soundness including the results of an ECG and would have to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing or trialling again. MONTEVERDI (Alex Hearn) Hung outwards in the straight. Co-Trainer Mr B. Watkins was advised to take steps to rectify the gelding s racing manner. He advised that due to the gelding laying outwards considerably, particularly over the final 100m, he would have it undergo a veterinary examination over the ensuing days and report any abnormalities to the Stewards. STORMY PRINCE (William Pike) When questioned regarding him leading in today s event, rider advised that it was his intention to race on the pace but leaving the 1000m when waiting to allow a runner to his inside to assume the lead, his mount had commenced to race keenly and would not settle and in the circumstances, he elected to continue to stride forward and lead. He added that the gelding continued to race keenly through the middle stages. RACE 5: AUTO CLASSIC MINI GARAGE HANDICAP - 1500M HUEGILL (Ben Paterson) Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Sigley when questioned advised that it was his intention to instruct that the gelding settle in a midfield position with cover if possible and public announcements were made. Raced wide throughout. BACK TO A WALK (Shaun O Donnell) A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with an abrasion to the near fore bumper. LUKE S LUCK (Jarrad Noske) Raced wide on straightening. POP CULTURE (Troy Turner) Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. RACE 8: www.tabtouch.com.au HANDICAP - 1400M TEN ACRES (Aaron Mitchell) When questioned rider explained that he was instructed to allow the gelding to stride along from the 600m in an attempt to increase its momentum gradually as it does not possess a sharp finishing sprint. RAFFERTY (Chris Parnham) Raced wide from the 600m. Lay inwards in the straight. ELITE BELLE (William Pike) When questioned regarding his tactics, rider advised that he had intended for the mare to settle back in the field which is consistent with its normal racing pattern, but in the early stages of the race after beginning well from a favourable barrier and due to the moderate pace, he had elected to maintain his position and race in a more prominent position. He further explained that when the leading division of runners increased the tempo of the race leaving the 600m, he commenced to ride vigorously in a hands and heels manner in an attempt to make up ground and pulled the whip after the mare became balanced in the straight and it finished the race off strongly.
