Everything you need to know about: NORTHOWRAM JUNIORS FC NEW COACH MANUAL Version 5: June 2016 12

BEING A COACH! Firstly, don t panic! Support is available for you, to make you time with Northowram Juniors, both enjoyable and rewarding. THE CLUBS DNA: The Clubs own DNA document, spells out what the club is about and details how the club expects coaches to go about coaching. The overall goal is to turn our young kids into respectable adults within the community, who can also play football! MENTORS TO HELP: The club has a number of trained mentors to assist both new and existing coaches in areas such as training sessions, match days and general team management. FIRST JOB! Get all contact details of your players parents (phone numbers, email addresses) and keep a database. It will make life easier when communicating about training, matches etc. Also request player medical conditions. Version 5: June 2016 13

EQUIPMENT & KITS Equipment: The club will provide all footballs, bibs and other training aids as required. Ideally you need at least 1 ball per player. Please contact ****** ****** for equipment. New kit is handed out at the start of each season, usually at the September managers meeting. Match day kits The club are in partnership with Nike and all kits must be sourced from Sports Bulk. The cost of kits is not provided by the club. It is your responsibility to secure sponsorship for the kit from local businesses or from fundraising. The average cost of a full match day kit is around 30.00 per player. For more information on kits, please contact ****** ******. An idea to raise money, is to sell teas & Coffees, buns etc. on match days. Version 5: June 2016 14

MATCHDAYS Under 6 s do not play any league matches. You can arrange friendlies with local teams (Shelf / Brighouse/ Queensbury etc.). Under 7 s play Matches at Northowram School. You will need a key for the school padlocks and access to the container. Under 8 s & 9 s play at The Cricket Pitch. Under 10 s play at Lightcliffe Academy on the 3 G pitches. The clubs DNA document details how match days should be run, how the club expects coaches, players and spectators to conduct them selves while representing the club. Coaches are responsible for ensuring that pitches are marked out / white lined ready for games and positioning goals in position. Goals must be secured in position with steel pegs provided. Get help from parents with setting up, taking down goals and reffing matches. Contact your opponents the Monday / Tuesday before your fixture to agree KO times and order of matches. Text and/or email your parents to confirm availability. The Huddersfield league handbook contains all contact details for every club, plus the game rules. All matches up to U 13 s are non-competitive and girls can play up to U18 s. Version 5: June 2016 15

Playing the Game The clubs philosophy,(detailed in the NJFC DNA document) is for each player regardless of ability to have equal playing time over the season, up to and including U11 s. Subs used in mini soccer can be rotated at regular intervals throughout a match. Under 7 s and Under 8 s play 20 mins each way 5v5. Under 9 s and Under 10 s increases to 25mins each way 7v7. The clubs DNA encourages players rotation in different position during the early years including the goalkeeper position. The club would also encourage the goalkeeper rolling out the ball and teams playing from the back out. Ensure you have a First Aid Kit (club will provide) in your bag. Decide on an area / side of the pitch where parents can spectate from, leaving one side free for Coaches only! Set up respect barriers if they are available. Check your players all have Shin Pads! Version 5: June 2016 16

TRAINING Plan your training session: A good idea is to plan your training session before you arrive, this will make life easier! The DNA document provides specific guidelines for training sessions, such as game related sessions where possible with a minimum 70% ball rolling time. Lightcliffe Academy(HX3 8TL) Examples of training session ideas can be found in the NJFC dropbox account. Contact ***** ******* for access. Think about the S.T.E.P (Space, Task, Equipment, People) principle in training which is based on four aspects of your session that can be altered to make the lesson easier or more difficult for certain individuals or entire groups. Finally, review the training session outcome and ask the kids for feedback! Northowram School is used for training between April and October for Under 6 to Under 12 s. 3G pitches at Lightcliffe Academy and Trinity Academy are used during the winter for all ages. Trinity Academy(HX2 9SZ) Professional Coaching The club has ***** ******* (ex professional footballer), ***** ******* and ***** *******, who rotate around teams during winter training. Your allocation will be confirmed within the emailed training schedule. ***** *******y will email all coaches details of where they will be Version 5: June 2016 training and highlight the coaching allocation 17

COACHING QUALIFICATIONS All coaches will have to attend a fully funded (by NJFC) FA Level 1 course, which includes Safeguarding Children and First Aid. This is a requirement of the clubs charter standard. On completing the Level 1 course, this opens access to the FA coaches club, where you are required to complete 3 hours CPD each year. At present the Level 1 course consists of 3 Saturdays in a row and 2 Wednesday evenings in between. The FA are also looking to introduce Modules as an alternate. View available of local courses at www.westridingfa.com DBS CHECK All Coaches, helpers, referees etc., who come into contact with your players must have a DBS check (formally CRB). Please contact the club Welfare Officer (***** *******), who will provide details for registration. All costs will be paid for by the club. Version 5: June 2016 18

CLUB WELFARE OFFICER The clubs welfare officer is Sarah Rushforth. Sarah is responsible for the clubs safeguarding procedures and organising FA DBS checks for all club volunteers (Coaches, Referees, helpers etc.). Sarah will work with the West Riding FA to develop best practice and promote the FA s respect programme. Safeguarding children is everyone's responsibility, all coaches, members of the committee and the clubs welfare officer will work together to achieve best practice. All coaches will be required to complete the FA safeguarding children workshop (also requirement with Level 1 coaching). Complaints: The clubs welfare officer should be the first point of contact for any concerns or complaints raised by players or parents. The welfare officer will develop safeguard procedures, which will include: dropping off & collecting children, rules for taking photos and videos of children and posting on social media websites. ***** ******* : 07xxx xxxxxx email@******.com Version 5: June 2016 19

SIGNING ON Northowram Community Sports and Activity Club The Clubs philosophy / DNA requirements will be provided to all players & parents when signing on with NJFC. Coaches are responsible for ensuring all current players are signed on with the club and that payment arrangements have been set up. All payments should be sent to ***** ******* and this can be a cheque or cash. At the start of every season there is an opportunity for parents to pay by direct debit over 10 months. Details of the signing on night (in May) will be provided nearer the date. All players that are signed on, automatically become members of Northowram Community Sports and Activity Club (NCSAC) and have access to the club house on Westercroft Lane (cricket pitch). The club house can be hired for functions / parties etc. Version 5: June 2016 20
