The beauty of our club jumps out every time I drive down the lane leading to our gate. Once through are Coastal Lowcountry trees, tennis courts, a swimming pool, sail and power boats galore, the Club House, various sail sheds and then rivers edge. On our dock, the Beaufort River opens up to Parris Island seen through a modern high-rise bridge to the South and the City of Beaufort with its white church steeples and swing bridge to the North. Not many yacht clubs rival Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club s view and natural beauty. Our 2017 Lowcountry Regatta, just completed, was great fun with guess what--good wind on Saturday but no racing on Sunday, no wind! Saturday saw the Regatta s three races in record time. Discussions of extending the number of races have begun to take advantage of the wind. On paper, this is probably a good idea but the reality of a late June in the Lowcountry is that we will not see conditions like Saturday, June 24 th, 2017 for a long time. 2017 Lowcountry firsts; long sleeve wicking shirts with a 15 PVF rating, free beer for contestants and volunteers, and colorful plastic sailing trophies designed in the shape of the sailing dinghies for younger sailors race. Younger competitors out-numbered older sailors again this year which is a very good thing. Our Commodore, Simon Jenkins, should return from Bermuda and the Americas Cup Races by time you read this. I hope we hear of his trip and the "really big races" in next month s Bow Watch. Marvin Day Rear Commodore

General Manager s Message: Mitch McGuigan Once again the Lowcountry Regatta was fun for the 109 contestants and more than 100 guests and volunteers. Over 200 attended the Lowcountry boil hosted by Junior Sailing of Beaufort. Visitors once again thanked the club members for putting on an outstanding regatta. Summer Camp has completed 4 of its 6 weeks and this Friday Junior Sailing of Beaufort wraps up its Learn to Sail program. The pool is open daily from 9:00am to 8:00pm. I encourage families to drop by after work to cool off and socialize. The evaporative cooler will operate overnight so the water can be cooler during the day. Mooring Ball Tender Use The mooring tender may only be used by members who are assigned to a mooring ball. The tender may only be used to travel between the docks and moored boats. If you are tying up to your boat, please make sure the tender is visible from the docks so that other mooring boaters can see where the tender is and contact you. Club Events Sign up online for the July 12 Steak Night by July 10 at 5:00pm Steak Night Pool In May we had to close the main pool for a day due to a fecal incident. It happens, but by following the guidelines below we can limit the frequency. Non-toilet trained children may only use the pools under the following conditions: Children may not use either pool if they have had diarrhea in the past 7 days. Children who are not toilet trained must wear a clean, close-fitting, Swim Diaper with a plastic outer covering that has elastic at the waist and leg openings. A bathing suit or plastic pants must be worn over the Swim Diaper. The child must be closely supervised by a parent or caregiver and the diaper should be changed frequently. Parents who not follow this policy may be charged the cost of restoring the pool to safe operating levels. Fecal discharge can result in a pool closing and the cost for chemicals and partial water replacement in the main pool can be up to $350 and $100 for the kiddie pool. A swimmer who causes a fecal incident may not use the pool for the next 7 days. Personal items left at the pool will be placed in the cubbies outside the bathhouse. They get moldy fast and so will be discarded every Monday. Paddle Boarding, Kayak and Small Dingy Safety The river shore and launching area has many sharp oyster shells. Always wear closed toed shoes. Please do not use small craft near the main floating docks. The current is strong. Do not boat alone. Bartenders Needed!! The July, August and September sign-up is now available for sign-up. Please sign up below Bartending

Noodle Time! We will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9am to have a good time exercising in our wonderful, salt water pool. We work out to really fun music arranged by Leigh Harmer, with her technical assistant, Bruce. Water Aerobics is low impact, easy on the joints, helps tone and strengthen muscles, and improve balance. You can participate without knowing how to swim. Joining our friendly group of men and women is a great way to get to know other club members. If you would like to join us, coat yourself in sunscreen, wear a hat, sunglasses, (rash guard shirt, pool shoes if you would like), and meet us at the pool with a "fat" pool noodle! For more information, please contact :Linda Fraser sewblue@comcast.net

Crew for our trip south: "I'm planning on bringing my 44' Pearson Countess down from Cape Cod Massachusetts to Beaufort at the end of September and I'm looking for a 4th crew. Aquarius is ketch rigged, designed by John Alden and built by Pearson in Bristol RI in 1969. She's been well taken care and can easily carry 4 crew. I'm looking for someone that has experience in sailing large sailboats, offshore experience would be a plus. The schedule is weather permitting and right now we intend to stay outside the Gulf Stream and come straight down taking about 2 weeks (again weather permitting) or longer depending on schedules and time available. If you are interested please email me at gottsail58@gmail.com. Thanks. Stan Hergott
