What did you do at school today, Son? Nothing. Sound familiar? Parents want to know how school is going and what their children are learning, but sometimes students don t communicate this very well. I can assure you, they are doing LOTS of learning! Here are some better questions to ask: #1. What was the best thing that happened at school today? (What was the worst thing that happened at school today?) #2. Tell me something that made you laugh today. #3. If you could choose who would you like to sit by in class? (Who would you NOT want to sit by in class? Why?) #4. Where is the coolest place at the school? #5. If I called your teacher tonight what would she tell me about you? #6. How did you help somebody today? #7. How did somebody help you today? #8. When were you the happiest today? #9. When were you bored today? #10. What word did your teacher say most today? #11. What do you think you should do/learn more of at school? #12. Tell me about three different times you used your pencil? I wish you all a relaxing weekend. Be sure to make lifelong memories with your children! Mrs. Stolarz, Happy and Tired Principal :) Jerry Ross is accredited with Standard 1: The school maintains and communicates a purpose and direction that commit to high expectations for learning as well as shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning. Sick Day Guidelines: Making the Right Call When Your Child is Sick Should I keep my child home or send him or her to school? School policy (and/or state law) requires a child to stay home if he or she: Has a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher Has been vomiting or has diarrhea Has symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as: Very tired or lack of appetite Cough that he or she cannot control Headache or body aches Sore Throat a bad sore throat could be strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep throat in children are a headache, stomachache, or rash. Call your doctor if your child has these signs. A special test is needed to confirm if it is strep throat. 24 Hour Rule FEVER: Keep your child home until his or her FEVER has been gone WITHOUT any fever-reducing medicine for 24 hrs. Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick. VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the LAST time her or she vomited or had diarrhea. ANTIBIOTICS: Keep your child home until 24 hours after the FIRST dose of antibiotics for anything like strep throat, bronchitis or the recommendation of your child s physician. Please help others from becoming sick by keeping your child home during their illness.
