U18 Practice 1 Offensive Concepts 1) Warmup: 4v2 + 2 Keep Away DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: 4 x's move puck around while 2 O's forecheck and try to win puck. When O's win puck, clear to O3 and O4 and play 4v2 in the O's zone. Rules: Number of touches limit; split the 2 forecheckers and get a point; Give and Gos get a point. 2) 3v1 + 2 DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Teams are allowed 3 in D Zone and 1 forechecker. You can have 3 in O Zone when offensive team has possession. 3 in D zone work on puck support with breakout and coming back to puck. 3) Support/Attack DRILL OBJECTIVE: Pucks Start with Forwards. 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: On whistle, F1 starts up ice with puck, D1 backwards-they pass to the far blue line. D2 comes to support D1, F2 is coming back to middle of ice. D1 gets puck at far blue and passes to D2 who is supporting, F2 is getting to boards to support D2, F1 swings to F2. D2 to F2 to F1. F1 attacks wide, F2 drives net. D1 leaves ice on weak side, D2 turns to F3 who makes pass to him-becomes a continuous drill. 4) 2v1, 3v1 Double Regroup DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: F1 and F2 move puck to D1 who back pedals. F1/F2 read off D, coming back to support the puck. D1 moves the puck to F in best position. F1/F2 move puck to D2 for regroup and then attack D1. D1 should move up in to close gap on attacking forwards. Can add 3rd forward to make 3v1 regroup. 5) 3v1 Line Rush DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: X Forwards move in to Neutral Zone and receive pass from Coach 1 and attack net 3v1 vs. O defense. After shot and immediate rebound, coach 2 throws 2nd puck in corner for 3v1 down low. If D wins puck 1 or puck 2, they are allowed to attack net at red line.

U18 Practice 2 1) Warm Up Passing DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Part 1: 3 groups. 3 players on 1 side of ice, 2 players on other. X1 and X2 leave with puck, give and go all the way to other side. X1 stays, X2 goes back with X3 continuing one touch passes. Part 2: X1 backwards, X2 forwards. One touch pass to other side. X1 stay, X2 backwards, X3 forwards, one touch passing to other side. At other side, X3 backwards, X4 forwards, to other side. Then X4 backwards, X5 forwards. Continue through until all have gone. 2) Flow Pass and Shoot DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Pucks at hash marks. On whistle, X1 and X2 leave to get puck. X1 and X2 pick up puck and head up ice. X3 and X4 time their swing to get pass from X1 and X2. X3 and X4 get pass and take long shots (from blue line). X1 and X2 follow up ice and become X3 and X4. This is a continuous drill. 3) 4v2, 1 touch DRILL OBJECTIVE: Play game at both ends. Shifts 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Game starts with 4 x's and 2 o's. X's are attacking net on goal line. O's attack net on blue line. Team with 4 players have limited touches (1, 2 or 3) before they have to move puck. Team with 2 work on good stick position, defending middle of ice and clearing rebounds. 4) 2v2 with 2 supports (2 games) DRILL OBJECTIVE: Play in 30 second shifts 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Game #1: Support 1 stays below goal line, Support 2 must play with 1 foot on dot looking for quick 1 touch shots on goal. You can defend Support 2. Support 1 looks to feed open players. Game works on down low offensive and defensive play. Game #2 Support 1 can move across blue line/pass or shoot. Support 2 must stay on boards. They can pass or shoot, shots must be 1 timers/1 touch. Coach puts pucks in play, 2 players from each line go in. Players must get puck to support players on change of possession before attacking. Defenders cannot play support guys. Must D up.

U18 Practice 3 Page 1 of 2 1) Puck Possession 3v3 DRILL OBJECTIVE: Learning puck support 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Each pair of cones is a goal. To score you must make tape to tape pass through the cones. Play 3v3 2) Quick Hit 1v1, 2v1 DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: F1 passes to D1 and gets return pass. F1 attacks D2. Once over the blueline, F2 passes to D2 and attacks back against D1 who gaps up. Can add 2nd F to make drill a 2v1. 3) Notre Dame Tracking DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: On whistle, coach dumps puck, D breaks out 2 F who attack 2v1- D follows up. As soon as the rush passes the near blue the next 2 Fs are back checking. The 2v1 becomes a 3v3. Play it out 3v3. On whistle, coach dumps puck and D breaks out the 2 backcheckers. Repeat 4) Russian Paradox DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: On whistle, group 1 plays 1v1. On 2nd whistle, group 1 joins group 2 and plays 2v2. On 3rd whistle, O passes to X who shoots for rebound. Play it out 3v3. On whistles, leave the puck and join next phase. 5) Merry Go Round D Zone coverage DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: O's spread out getting ready to play in zone offense. X's are in a group, moving in a circle in the slot. On whistle, X's play defensive zone coverage against O's. O's must make at least 1 pass before attacking net. X's must communicate.

U18 Practice 3 Page 2 of 2 6) Texas Hold'em DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Coach dumps a puck and calls out a situation- 1v1, 1v2, 2v1, etc. Coach continues to add players to change situation-3v2, 2v3, 3v3, etc. Defensive players ust communicate about the situation they are trying to defend.

U18 Practice 4 Special Teams 1) Timing and Shooting DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: 4 players from each side take a puck to the Neutral zone and stick handle through the zone. On their own they go in and take a shot on goal at their original end. Players must read the other players. Shoot from different lanes. Shoot from just inside the blueline. All players must make a quick fake and cut laterally before shooting. 2) 4v2 Change Over DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: This 4v2 game is played cross ice. When the 2 defensive players gain possession of the puck they are joined by 2 more teammates and attack 2 new defenders the other way. This game emphasizes possession by the power play team. Once they lose the puck they are out of the game. All facets of PP and PK happen in this game. 3) 4v2 Special Teams game DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: 4 offensive players and 2 defensive players are in each half of the ice. Play 4v2. If the defenders gain possession they clear the puck to their teammates on the opposite side of the ice. All tight space PP and PK skills and reads are used in this game. Additional defensive pressure can be used with 4v3 play. 4) Special Teams Transition Game DRILL OBJECTIVE: 0 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: The short handed team begins with an extra player below their own goal line. Start by having the team on the power play breakout from behind their own net. Play 5v4. When a shot on goal goes wide, the goalie covers the puck or defending team steals the puck, the puck is then played back to the defending team's extra player. The penalty killers now move back inside their own end to support the puck and become the new powerplay team. The power play guys sprint off and new killers jump into the play with a 5th attacker moving behind his own goal line. Play continues. Can play 5v3, 4v3 or even 6v5 to simulate a pulled goalie situation. Warmup-8 minutes Goalies- Movement drills in NZ Skaters- White Knight, Continuous 3v2 Possession Divide up into groups of 5 players, 2 teams of 2 players with the 5th player always on the team which has possession. Play 3v2 keep away in a confined space.

U18 Practice 5 1) Tire Warmup DRILL OBJECTIVE: 7 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Players play 3v3, must pass to a coach to go on offense. Hit either tire to score 2) World Cup Shooting DRILL OBJECTIVE: 10 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: X1/ O 1 shoot puck to start drill. X1/O1 goes into corner to pick up puck. X2 supports and gets pass from X1. X2 passes to X3 who times their curl and supports to receive pass. X3 shoots then goes in to corner to start drill over. 3) All Purpose 3v2 DRILL OBJECTIVE: 10 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Forward pass to D. D to D pass and shot on goal. Forwards attack D 3v2. Two new D step out. On whistle, Forwards pass to D, D to D for shot with 3v2 in front. 4) 7:12 Drill DRILL OBJECTIVE: 14 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: F1/F2 go down 2v0 for shot. After shot, get pass from coach, D1 steps out and F1/F2 attack 2v1. On whistle, F3 joins F1/F2 and D2/D3 step out and play 3v2. After 3v2, coach throws a puck out and they go down on a breakaway. Forwards have 7 minutes to score 12 goals. 5) 3v3 w/2 lines DRILL OBJECTIVE: 10 min. KEY ELEMENTS: ORGANIZATION: Play 3v3 with 2 lines facing the net they are shooting at. Must pass puck to the line that has teammates acting as D to go on offense. Must have a shot from the point. Can only score on a tip, screen or rebound.
