Monday (3/5) and Tuesday (3/6) 4-5:30: 4:00 4:10: Introductions and Number Handout 4:10 4:30: Stretch. Technique and motion instruction 4:30 5:00: Learn the dance as a group 5:00 5:20: Work in groups on dance, turns, leaps, and jumps 5:20 5:30: Review dance, Q&A session Wednesday (3/7) 4-5:30: Optional practice Thursday (3/8) TRY-OUT Day (4 pm until all have auditioned) Closed to everyone except participants. Attire: o black tank/leotard, sports bra, and black shorts (hot shorts are not acceptable); no jeans o hair must be pulled up and out of the face o shoes or dance paws must be worn at all times o No gum, no jewelry Tryout Requirements: Completed Application/Agreement Athletic Physical Proof of medical insurance (copy of card) 2 teacher evaluation forms (must be from a core class) Attendance required for at least 2 clinic days and tryout Individuals will be evaluated on grades, teacher evaluations, discipline, technical skills, and performance of a choreographed dance routine. The following technical skills will be judged at tryouts: Grade Jete, Straddle Leap, Single Pirouette, Splits (both legs), Kicks. Please turn in all items (except for teacher recommendations) to Mrs. Nancy Hartfield by March 5, 2018. Teacher recommendations should be either put in Mrs. Hartfield s box at JCHS or sent via van-mail by the teacher completing the form. Special notes: 1. The band dance team will be made up of girls in grades 9-12. 2. Judges will evaluate each girl and choose the team. ALL decisions are final. 3. The number of spaces on the team each year is not set. Girls will be placed on the team based on their skill level. It is also important to remember that when performing, a team must dance as one. Consideration is given to how a dancer looks when performing with a group.

Regulations This list is for the participants that will be chosen for the dance team. Please be sure you and your child are willing to comply. A more detailed constitution will be provided for dance team members to read and sign after tryouts. 1. Must maintain a 70 average in core classes. The coach will review progress reports and report cards each grading period. 2. Optional summer dance camp with date and location TBD. Parents will be responsible for transportation. 3. Must attend band camp at JCHS. This will start on July 16 and last about 2 weeks. Full details and dates will come later. 4. Must attend all performances, games, and other scheduled activities (including playoff games). Other activities or jobs may not interfere with dance team obligations without prior permission. Dancers will have class first semester during fourth block. REQUIRED after school practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday, 3:45-5:30 throughout the fall semester. Occasional extra practices as needed and called by the band director/coach. 5. Must not leave early or arrive late to or from any practice, performance, or any other activity unless excused by the coach and/or the band director. 6. Meet deadlines (turning in money, forms, etc.) 7. May participate in all fundraisers to help offset the cost of uniforms, fees, and trips. 8. Is expected to respect and abide by the decisions and rules of the coach. 9. Inappropriate behavior at school, performance, activity, or any other time you are representing the school will not be tolerated. This is to include inappropriate posts on social media. The coach will have discretion as to whether you will remain on the team or participate in upcoming activities. 10. If you quit or if you are dismissed from the team, you will not be allowed to try out the following year without consent of the coach. Any member who misses 2 performances will be dismissed from the team unless it is excused by a doctor s note or a death in the family. If you are dismissed from the team you will be placed in a regular PE class and will forfeit all monies paid. This will be strictly enforced. All decisions of the coach, band director, athletic director and principal are final. Failure to comply with any of the rules may result in dismissal. 2018-2019 Dates to Remember (Subject to change) Please note you need to be committed to the JCHS Band and Varsity Band Dance Line every Tuesday/Thursday (3:45-5:30) and Friday s during football season (3:30 10:00 or later) in addition to the special events listed below. Note, these dates (with the exception of band camp) are either not set at the time of this packet or are not firm. Mandatory: (Monday-Friday) July 16-? Band Camp (2 weeks) Tuesday Sept. These are usually on a Saturday and occur during the month of October.

Approximate Expenses for Members The following is an estimated price list for 2018-2019 Band Dance Line. Opportunities will be provided for fundraisers, but the member will be responsible for the balance not raised.
