Sales List Since 1980 we ve been breeding "horses to match our mountains." We've always emphasized naturalness of gait, sweet disposition, substantial bone, athletic ability and beauty. Central to our breeding program for the last decade was the late Pride Piper, the last standing son of Pride of Midnight H.F., known for his barefoot running walk, light-shod show record (including a reserve championship at the Celebration), and striking appearance. His son Piper's Pride of Absaroka, a powerful, athletic chestnut like his sire, is now producing tall, athletic colts. (With Pride, at age three, Dan rounded up our cattle in the hills alone, then went the next day to a show where he took five ribbons!) Absaroka Silver Dollar is ultra-gentle, grey, and powerful. We ve been particularly pleased with Dollar foals from Piper mares and more recently Pride foals from Dollar mares. Lastly, we ve added Bubba the Gaited Jack to answer the growing demand for gaited mules. We ve been extremely pleased with his progeny and are enjoying this new endeavor of producing long-ears with their mothers head-nodding running walks. Please note: All horses are registered and Parentage Verified. All prices subject to change (particularly as horses progress in training). For horses currently in training, started refers to approximately thirty days training including ground work and 10-15 rides. Well-started indicates considerable riding on the ranch outside of the arena. A performance checklist is kept showing the accomplishment of each horse and is updated after each session. 2014 MARE Pride s Absaroka Fancy is a petite sorrel filly measuring 14.1-14.2 with a smooth, fast, running walk. 2015 GELDING Pride s Absaroka Warrior, by Piper s Pride of Absaroka out of Dollar s Absaroka May, Warrior is living up to his name. 16.2 hands tall and still growing, Warrior will top out at around 17 hands. Now greying out, he will be a majestic animal for those who want a tall, ground-covering gelding, a true gentle giant. Laid back in disposition, Warrior walks at whatever speed you wish, from an easy ordinary walk to a head-nodding flat walk and running walk. He s now 70% on the neck rein. Filled out and greyed out, Warrior will be a magnificent animal. $6000. 2016 GELDING Pride s Absaroka Cruiser is a full brother to Pride s Absaroka Warrior. With a beautiful head and compact body, Cruiser will mature in the 15.2 region. This colt got his name because as a foal at his mother s side he was locked in a perfect running walk wherever he went in the pasture. He s gentle and is now learning the ropes, undergoing ground work, soon to be followed with light training under saddle. The photo below shows Cruiser wearing a saddle for the very first time, which he did with scarcely a quiver. Price after 60 days of training will be $5000.
MULES Buddy Answering the growing demand for part-draft mules, we have full brother grey john mules that area potentially a matched pair. Buddy is coming three and will top out at around 17 hands. He s been saddled and ground driven and is friendly and gentle to a fault. Boone is a coming yearling and should grow to match his brother. He s halter broke. Sired by our gaited jack Bubba, these two are out of Babe, half Belgian and half Tennessee Walking Horse, a gentle mare that weighs around 1600 pounds. We d really like to see these two mules sold as a pair, but could sell them individually. $3900 for the pair. Boone 2017 FOALS Suzette s Absaroka Maid is by Absaroka Silver Dollar out of Piper s Suzette, a full sister of our stallion Piper s Pride of Absaroka. Maid is a flashy sorrel filly with star and snip and that athletic build and natural gait that are the heritage of The Pride Piper. $2900
Angie s Piper Legacy is a stud colt by Absaroka Silver Dollar and a foundation mare named Piper s Merry Angie. A full brother to my well-known mountain horse Partner, Legacy is a sorrel with off hind fetlock and star. He s statuesque and gentle, and like all of ours, natural in gait. $3200 Fancy s Bright Star is by Absaroka Silver Dollar out of Piper s Red Fancy. Brown and becoming grey, with a star, this filly goes back on the bottom line to old Montana stock, Montana Laddie and Beauty s Barbaree, through our first stallion Steve s Eldorado and Emily s wonderful mare Absaroka Red Fancy. She ll be a beautiful, athletic mare and one with great breeding potential. $2900
Trapper s Heritage is by Absaroka Silver Dollar out of Trapper s Holly. This filly has the same bottom line as Fancy s Bright Star. A bay (greying out), Heritage shares the same attributes as Star, above. $3200 Pearl s Absaroka Pride is by Piper s Pride of Absaroka out of Dollar s Grey Pearl. He, too, traces to our earliest breeding and the bottom line of the two fillies above. With his disposition, looks, and pedigree, he could possibly have stallion potential. Tess s Light in August is by Piper s Pride of Absaroka out of Dollar s Angelina (Tess) one of Dan s favorite saddle horses. Tess has been used extensively as a mountain horse, has led pack strings, and progresses with a smooth running walk and lots of grit when carrying a heavy man up a mountain grade. Late in 2016 we bred her to Pride, and she carried the foal an entire extra month, giving birth at the end of August 2017. We kept looking forward to her being light in August, a saying Faulkner fans will recognize. The resultant filly is chestnut with a broken strip, cute as a bug, athletic and natural she scoots across the corral in a running walk. $2900 WORK TEAM Because we re not using them enough, we are listing a full brother and sister, sired by Absaroka Silver Dollar out of a registered Belgian mare. Trouble (who was never any trouble but got his name with intent to create a Shakespearian team, Toil and Trouble ) is a gelding weighing 1400-1500 pounds and his sister Babe is a bit larger. Both are grey. Trouble is coming 11, Babe is coming 8. Trouble has had extensive team experience and has been used for single logging. Babe is started as a team horse and also has logged singly. Both have outstanding feet. They re extremely gentle, but as a team not experienced enough to recommend for a beginning teamster. $4500 for the pair.
