WHAT S GOING ON IN IU ATHLETICS Indiana University Athletics Hey Kids Club Members! The Winter Season is in full swing and your Hoosiers are off to a great start! The IU Women s Basketball Team is off to their best start in over five years with a 9-2 record. Your Hoosiers defeated #15 Kentucky and instate rival Notre Dame on the Irish s home court 54-51. Junior guard, Nikki Smith is leading the way for the Hoosiers. This past Saturday Smith scored a career high 24 points including the final nine to lead the Hoosiers to a victory over Southern Illinois. Another team making headlines is the 17th ranked Wrestling Team. Your Hoosiers had another successful weekend at the FITE Duals in Forrest Park, IL. Through five events, IU grapplers have totaled 16 victories over opponents ranked in the top 20 of their weight classes, and four Hoosier wrestlers have vaulted into the top 10. Volume 2, Issue 2 Indiana s next meet December 12th, 2006 is the Midland Championships in Evanston, IL. What s inside Hoosier Games Last but not least is the Indiana Men s WBB Promotion Basketball Team. Hoosier Spotlight The Hoosiers needed a 14-1 run to Birthday Wishes hold off the Salukies Birthday Parties in a hard fought 57-47 win last night. Cheer Clinic Indiana improved to 6-3 on the season. The Hoosiers were paced by A.J. Ratliff who scored 14 points off the bench. Indiana returns to Assembly this Wednesday when they host Western Michigan.

The Coca-Cola Family Four Pack will be offered at all IU women s Basketball regular season games. For $25, fans will receive four tickets to a game, four hot dogs, and four Cokes. Page 4 HOOSIER SPOTLIGHT Indiana Women s Basketball Class: #11 Whitney Thomas Sophomore Position: Height: Forward 6 0 Hometown: Bloomington, IN High School: Bloomington North A Sophomore Captain,Whitney Thomas is a forward on the women s basketball team. Where do you see yourself in ten years? In 10 years, I see myself having a family and hopefully I ll be a nurse. I will be living here in Bloomington. Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why? My family has been the biggest influence in my life. They have made me who I am today. They have pushed me and supported me through everything. The best thing about Indiana is: There are so many good people here. Everybody is so willing and will help you when you need it! There is also a great Indiana Tradition here that many schools can t say that they have. Why do you wear the number 11? I have worn the number 11 since I was little. I have just always worn this number. There isn t a particular reason. How would you describe your two years here? A great learning experience! It has gone by so fast, and these past two years have helped me grow. I have already met some great people and seen some great places. I have gotten to do some amazing things that I would not have had the opportunity to do if I was not here. What is your favorite childhood memory? My brother and I made a wooden go-kart when we were little and we used to ride it down our hill. We used to make things all of the time and we would always find something we could get hurt on! What are your goals for this year? To keep helping this team grow and for the Indiana Women s basketball program to be known! I also want to be apart of the NCAA tournament. Something that many people might not know about you is: I was a cheerleader when I was younger! What do you like best about Coach Jack? Coach Jack came to this team and has given us so much energy and passion for the game. The best thing about her is that she makes us better people not just on the court but off the court as well. She really tries to prepare us for life after college and basketball. She doesn t treat us as just basketball players.
