QUICK TRIP: The Padres opened-up their shortest roadtrip of the season, a three-game stint in the City by the Bay last night, taking the series opener against the Giants, 6-0... following their short stay in northern California, the Padres will return home after an off day on June 26 for a nine-game, 10-day homestand against the Diamondbacks (June 27-29), Reds (June 30-July 2) and Giants (July 4-6)...the Friars will finish off the first-half of the season with a sevengame, two-city roadtrip to Colorado (July 7-9) and Los Angeles (July 10-13) before four off days over Major League Baseball s All-Star break. BAY-SEBALL: Tonight the Padres will square-off with the Giants at AT&T Park for the second game of a three-game set and the eighth of 19 scheduled games against their National League West Division rivals this season, as they now own the season series advantage 4-3 following last night s 6-0 win. The Padres earned the series victory in the fi rst meeting between these two clubs this season, taking the fi rst two games of a three-game series at Petco Park April 18-20...the Giants were victorious in the second series meeting between the two clubs, winning two of three games at AT&T Park from April 28-30. Chris Denorfia has found success in his career against San Francisco, hitting a.337 clip (64-for-190), the second-best average in the Majors against the Giants (Chris Iannetta.338) (min 150 PA). WITH A WIN TODAY: Having won the series opener against the Giants last night, the Padres could secure a series victory in San Francisco tonight, with a Padres victory tonight, the Friars would secure their third series win on the road this season (2-8-1) and would snap a 10 series winless streak in San Francisco dating back to the three game set at AT&T Park from October 1-3, 2010 (0-8-2). Overall, a win tonight would secure the Padres their second series win in three meetings with San Francisco this season and the third series win over the Giants in their last fi ve meetings dating back to September 2-4, 2013. O WHAT A DEBUT: Odrisamer Despaigne made his Major League debut on the mound for the Padres last night, pitching 7.0 shutout innings, striking out one and walking none. Per STATS, Inc, since the start of the 1914 season, Despaigne is just the seventh Major League pitcher to pitch 7.0 or more shutout innings and not allow a walk in his 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB IN MLB DEBUT Major League debut...see chart for the rest. Became the fourth pitcher in Padres franchise history to pitch 7.0 or more shutout innings in his Major League debut, joining Ricky Bones on August 11, 1991 (7.0 IP), Eric Player Don Loun, WAS Wayne Simpson, CIN Jimmy Jones, SD AVG 9/23/1964 vs BOS 4/09/1970 at LAD 9/21/1986 at HOU Nolte on August 1, 1987 (7.0 IP) and Jimmy Jones on Jack McDowell, CWS 9/15/1987 vs MIN September 21, 1986 (9.0 IP). Jeff Pico, CHC 5/31/1988 vs CIN Per Elias, with Despaigne pitching, from Havana, Cuba, Scott Lewis, CLE 9/10/2008 at BAL and Yasmani Grandal catching, also from Havana, Cuba, Odrisamer Despaigne, SD 6/23/2014 at SF yesterday marked the fi rst time since June 13, 1969 that a team started a pitcher and a catcher from Cuba in the same game...rhp Camilo Pascual made the start on the mound and Paul Casanova was behind the plate for the Washington Senators that day. BLANKING THE GIANTS: With the Padres keeping the Giants off the board in a 6-0 victory at AT&T Park, yesterday marked the Padres third shutout win of the season and the fi rst against the Giants since earning a 1-0 win over San Francisco on September 11, 2010 at Petco Park. The shutout was the fourth in franchise history at AT&T Park and the first since riding a Mat Latos complete game, one-hit shutout on May 13, 2010. STINGY ROOKIES: Going back to Jesse Hahn s start against the New York Mets on June 14, rookie starting pitchers haven t allowed an earned run in 20.0 consecutive innings (Hahn 0 ER in 6.0 IP on 6/14, Hahn 0 ER in 7.0 IP on 6/19 and Despaigne 0 ER in 7.0 IP last night). The 20.0 IP streak by rookie starters without an earned run allowed is the longest active streak in the Majors (second place is Pittsburgh at 9.0 IP). Since 1974, the 20.0 consecutive innings without an earned run allowed by rookie starting pitchers is the fourthlongest streak by the Padres in that time and the longest since going 24.1 IP from August 28-September 7, 2002. KEEP THE BALL IN THE YARD: The Padres have held the opposition without a home run in each of the last six games as well as their last 56.0 innings pitched since Eric Stults surrendered a long ball to Robinson Cano in the fi fth inning of the game on June 17 at Seattle. The six game streak without allowing a home run at home is the longest active streak in the Major Leagues and the longest streak by the Padres this season...the last time the Friars went six or more games without allowing a home run was June 4-10, 2008 when they also went six games. Overall this season, the Padres have allowed just 61 home runs, the sixth-fewest in the Major Leagues. THE MAGIC NUMBER IS...: The Padres own a 25-4 record this season when scoring four or more runs...the Friars.862 winning percentage in these decisions is third-best in Major League Baseball and second-best in the National League, behind only Washington (33-3,.917) and Kansas City (33-5,.868).
