ROSTER MOVE: This afternoon the Padres announced they have recalled INF/OF Kyle Blanks from Triple-A El Paso and have designated INF/OF Xavier Nady for assignment. Blanks, 27, was hitting.265/.364/.651 (22-for-83) with fi ve doubles, nine home runs and 20 RBI in 27 games for the Chihuahuas at the time of his recall...his nine home runs were tied for the fourth-most in all of Minor League Baseball and tied for second-most in the Pacific Coast League. Blanks owns a career.228/.312/.404 line with 36 doubles, 28 home runs and 98 RBI in 234 Major League games over parts of fi ve Big League seasons. Nady, 35, appeared in 22 games for the Padres this season, six starts, and was hitting.135/.238/.405 (5-for-37) with three home runs and four RBI. RARELY ROYAL: Today the Padres will welcome the Kansas City Royals to Petco Park for the first game of a threegame set against KC...this will be the first meeting between the two franchises since the Friars earned a three game sweep over the Royals in downtown San Diego from June 27-29, overall, this is the fourth all-time meeting between these two clubs. Overall, the Padres own a commanding all-time 7-2 record against the Royals, including a perfect 6-0 mark at home (also a three game sweep from July 2-4, 2004) and a 1-2 mark in Kansas City (June 28-30, 2002). Matched his career low in innings pitched in his last outing at San Francisco on April 29, lasting just 2.2 innings, allowing fi ve runs on seven hits. Has allowed three earned runs or less in four of his last fi ve starts dating back to April 9 at Cleveland. The Padres have won in three of his last four starts despite Stults earning just one win during those games. LAST TIME OUT: Took the loss in his last outing on April 29 at San Francisco after he was run from the game after a career-low 2.2 innings pitched, allowing fi ve runs on seven hits with two walks, a strikeout and a home run.
