INTRODUCTION Welcome to all new potential NTFL Umpires, First I d like to say thank-you for considering the exciting challenge of Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Umpiring and for your willingness to give umpiring a go as a part our Target 200 recruitment campaign. I hope this 2014-15 NTFL Umpiring Introduction Booklet gives you a insight and valuable information into umpiring NTFL Football. Our ever expanding TIO NTFL competition now has over 45 NTFL matches every weekend which includes Premier League, Division 1 & 2, Women and junior grades of U/18, U/16, U/14, U12 and Youth Girls in the 3 Umpiring disciplines Field, Boundary and Goal. This results in 238 BARE minimum of umpiring appointments each weekend to successfully run our NTFL competition and that s why we are pleased you have chosen to become umpires. The 2014/15 TIO NTFL competition begins on the weekend of the 3rd of October and goes for 12 rounds before we get a 2 weekend festive season break (27th December & 3rd January off) and then the run home begins from Saturday 10th of January 2015 to mid March when Grand Finals are played. It doesn t matter if you don t know much about Australian Football or umpiring as we will provide you with the necessary skills through regular coaching and mentoring sessions. You just have to be willing to give it a crack and you will be surprised at how well you go. NTFL umpiring group is a progressive and evolving group and we hope you can join us as we embark on our 2014-15 NTFL season. We have a Female Umpires Liaison Officer (FULO) Kelly Tellam to help make our new female umpires feel more welcome and accommodated, we try our best to work around your weekend availability as we have many shift workers amongst our umpiring group. We have set-up a great and supportive coaching staff network for this up-coming NTFL season lead by our NTFL Umpires Advisor Ray Hocking. He will coordinate the coaching panel across our 3 Umpiring Disciplines in the aim of providing match day coaching within our group to continually develop our diverse and supportive umpiring group. It s not just the coaching staff that provides great assistance to the group, with our strength and Conditioning, medical staffing helping umpires achieve their fitness goals and the NTFL Umpires Association (celebrating their 50th year) run numerous social functions through-out the season that help bond our fantastic group together even more. I look forward to our new potential umpires taking up the rewarding challenge of NTFL umpiring and joining our NTFL team for the wet season in 2014-15. Yours Sincerely, Mark Noonan Umpiring Manager AFL Northern Territory

NTFL UMPIRES ASSOCIATION 50 years ago a group of guys got together and formed an Umpiring Association. It became the Northern Territory Football League Umpires Association. Every year since, new people with a passion and love of our great game have come along and joined this group to make it bigger and better. Will you be joining us this year? We have a great group of people- young and old, male and female, from all walks of life. We are current and ex-players, Defence personnel, teachers, students, nurses, public servants, labourers, even politicians- all with a passion for Aussie rules. We are central umpires, boundary umpires, goal umpires, coaches, water carriers, interchange stewards and sports trainers. We have lots of opportunities for anybody with any level of ability and fitness. Not sure what to do? We will teach you and give you the best spot at the ground to watch all of the action. Many shy young people have joined our association to grow in confidence and become school leaders and confident young adults. We pride ourselves in the nurturing environment that teaches these young people to take charge in this great game; 'Tomorrow's leaders today' could be our catch cry. Hayden Kennedy, the senior coach of the AFL Umpires has had a season with us, as has multiple Grand Final umpire Brett Rosebury, before going on to bigger achievements. Every ex-player I have spoken to, who has taken up umpiring always had the same regret I didn't start umpiring early enough! Make a start now! So come and join us for fitness, fun, finance or friendship. You might learn something along the way about yourself and Aussie rules. Our big 50 th year celebration awaits- come and be a part of it! Ross Ebbott President NTFL Umpires Association
