Tuesday, November 7, 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian: LCIMS is gearing up for another exciting year of Ski Club! Once again, Mr. Appleton and I (Mrs. White) are teaming up to make this another great season! I would like to acquaint you with the LCIMS Ski Club and some of the responsibilities that go along with being a member. The skiers will be chaperoned by Mr. Appleton, myself, as well as other adult chaperones. We take four trips to Nordic Mountain near Mount Morris, and all the trips are on Friday nights. Due to the number of students, we will only be taking the first 40 students who turn in their field trip information forms and payment. That is when your child s seat will be guaranteed. No seats will be saved. This is a first come, first serve deal. Please turn in your materials (listed below) to the LCIMS office as soon as possible. This will begin Wednesday, November 15, and end on November 21. In order to reserve your spot, you must hand in (to the LCMIS Office) : 1) A completed Field Trip Payment Information Sheet/Field Trip Permission Slip (the last two pages enclosed at the end of this letter). 2) All trip monies in cash or check. Checks may be written to Little Chute Area School District. Please note that NSF checks will be assessed an additional fee. -Trip Dates- The dates this year are Jan. 12, Jan. 19, Jan. 26, and Feb. 2, 2018. We do have one make-up date for Feb, 9, as well, in case of inclement weather and consequential cancellation. We will be leaving school at 3:30 and returning at 10:00 p.m. in the LCMS parking lot. Please arrange rides home ahead of time. Students will not be able to enter the building to call and/or wait for a ride when we return at 10:00 p.m. -Chaperones- Nordic Mountain has recently changed its rules on paying for lift tickets for the chaperones. Chaperones who will be attending all four trips are also welcome to the same prices that our students enjoy. Please contact me via e-mail at awhite@littlechute.k12.wi.us if you are interested in chaperoning, even as a one-time deal. In order to be fair, it will be a first come, first serve deal as well. If you would like to drive to Nordic separately, that would be fantastic. However, please know that you would have to pay regular pricing for the lift ticket and any other expenses that you would incur (Skis, lessons, snowboards). Check out www.nordicmountain.com for a full adult pricing list.

Although there will be an adequate number of chaperones, this does not completely insure the safety of your child on the hill. I suggest that you do not allow your child to go on any ski trips without proper hospitalization insurance to cover injuries. If an injury occurs on the slope, first aid facilities are available. However, you are expected to accept the responsibility for any injury. -Ski Lessons- **NEW THIS YEAR**. Ski/snowboard lessons are offered for all four trips. All first-time and beginner skiers should take the ski lessons that are available and taught by the ski patrols at the hill. The chance of an accident is greatly reduced and the skills involved in skiing are learned much more quickly after taking these lessons. Please note that the lessons consume a good portion of our time at the hill. PLEASE NOTE PLEASE NOTE PLEASE NOTE PLEASE NOTE The LCASD has made wearing a helmet mandatory for students. Nordic Mountain has also changed its policy as they have now combined ski/snowboard rentals and helmet rental a requirement as well. If you bring your own equipment, your child is still required to wear a helmet. You can rent a helmet for $16 for all 4 trips from Nordic or bring your own. THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD. -Fees- All 4 trips are included in the package price. There are no exceptions. If you are not able to attend a ski trip, you will not be given a credit for the cost of the ticket, rental, or any other fees. Transportation fees are also non-refundable. -Food- The ski hill sells a variety of foods and beverages; however, a bagged meal and/or snacks can be brought along for consumption on the buses or in the ski chalet. -Electronic Devices- We request that no one brings hand-held games, portable DVD players, or PSP on the ski club buses. It is too difficult to monitor what is being played or viewed. If your child brings one on the bus it will be taken until a parent can claim it at school. Cell phones are fine, as are MP3 s. I assume that parents regulate how both of those devices are being used. I want to stress the point that the buses sit unoccupied while we are on the hill. The drivers go out to eat, so no one is protecting what is left on the bus. Please keep that in mind as your child gets ready for the trips.

-Code of Conduct- The following are the LCMS Ski Club Rules your child will be operating under while representing the Little Chute Middle School on the ski trips: -All of the LCMS school rules apply while you are on the bus and on the ski hills. You may chew gum and wear hats. -Each person must get his/her own ski equipment onto the bus before we depart for the ski hill. There will be storage under the bus for your ski gear and overhead storage for your other gear. -You must listen to the announcements at the hill. When Little Chute Middle School is called in at the end of the night, go immediately into the rental building to return your rentals and then go immediately to the bus. -You must follow all of the rules on the bus, or you will not be invited to join us on the remaining trips. -You must follow all ski hill rules or your lift ticket will be taken away by the ski patrols. -Refunds (Inclement Weather)- This is always handled by Nordic Mountain. I give them the information of who did not attend a ski club outing and they give credit slips after the season is over. This usually takes about 2 weeks after the season as they have about 2,000 middle school students to make credit slips for. Students can use these credit slips for outings at Nordic on their own. Again, transportation fees are non-refundable. Thank you! If you have any questions, please contact Anna White: 788-7607, awhite@littlechute.k12.wi.us. Sam Appleton: 788-7607, sappleton@littlechute.k12.wi.us
