Evolving the National Cricket Centre, Loughborough The centre took over a decade to plan. 46 weeks to build. Was opened in September 2002 at a cost of 4.6m. It was designed to be the centre of cricket for all England groups. National Academy is a programme, like England Senior side would have leading up to a tour. The name from the start did not represent what the centre did. Now called the National Cricket Centre, supporting the technical, tactical, mental, physical and lifestyle development through a range of specifically tailored activities for each England Group.
