What a great March party we had! Thank you to our hosts Jeanne Harbison, Faye Sumner, Renate Tibbit and Ruby Hood. Great job ladies! The food was delicious!!! It pays to advertise who our DJs will be! Betty Brown, our DJ from Charleston, has quite a following. We had many out-of-town guests who drove a long way to see her and join us in the dancing. We also gained quite a few new members. Now that s the way a party should be! Our next party is right around the corner on April 8th. It will be another potluck party, so bring some of your favorite dishes to share! Our DJ will be Norman Mills from the Lake Hickory Shag Club. SOS is coming up from April 23-30 in Myrtle Beach. I hope to see some of you dancing, or at the parade, or just strolling along between the clubs. If you go, check the SOS Times newspaper for shag class schedules or DJ schedules. You can also go online to the SOS website: http://www.shagdance.com/safari.htm. SOS is all about the music, the dancing and the camaraderie!!! I hope to see you there! Sincerely, Peggy Perry
Party IRS Shag) Shag) Rather (I d Norman Mills - DJ Norman Mills was born and raised in Mooresville, NC. He started dancing at age 12 at the teen center in Mooresville. He got away from shagging during his 20 s and 30 s; but, renewed his love for the dance and the music in his 40 s. He has been djing for 32 years and has been fortunate to play from Virginia to Florida and points in between. He has been a member of the ABSC DJ s since its inception and was voted into the DJ Hall Of Fame in 2009. He served as vice chairman of ACSC in 1990 and has held offices in the Lake Hickory Shag Club. He is active currently in the Electric City Shag Club. He only missed one SOS since 1983 and met his wife at SOS in the fall of of 2005 on the beach in front of The Pavilion. The Shag world has been good to Norman. He met his dearest friends through his involvement with the Shagging Community and believes it has kept him young at heart ever since (unfortunately, not young in body). Jeanne Harbison has been serving as our temporary Corresponding Secretary. Tonight a motion was made to make her our actual Corresponding Secretary for 2017.There was a second, and she is now our Corresponding Secretary. She has already been hard at work doing the job! Our Reverse Raffle is on May 20. It is different this year. We will have a Lucky 100 Raffle. Here is how it will work. All of the tickets will be put into the barrel. 100 tickets will be pulled out. The rest will be discarded. The 100 tickets will be put back in the barrel. The first ticket pulled will win $50. The 33 rd ticket pulled out will win $50. The 66 th ticket pulled out will win $50. The March party is March 25 th. It is being hosted by Renata Tibbets, Jeanne Harbison, Faye Sumner, and Ruby Hood. The DJ will be Betty Brown from Charleston. NEW BUSINESS: Cape Fear Botanical Gardens has invited us to participate in their Third Thursday programs. We will be there on May 18, from 6-9. They will provide publicity, snacks, decorations, food truck, and a wooden floor. They want us to provide some exhibition dancing and lessons. This will be a good time for us to share our new Trifold info leaflets, and talk about shagging. We will probably invite some other clubs to participate, because a large amount of our members will be in Ireland at that time. PLEASE come out and help represent. We discussed some ideas for incentives. We particularly liked one that we nicknamed Brownie Points. Here is how it works. Every time you volunteer to do something for you get a point. This might be working at the door, or hosting a party, or coming to a meeting.or other things, For example, if you bring food to five parties, you get 5 points. If you come to 6 parties, you get 6 points. If you come to 11 meetings, you get 11 points. Add them up That is 22 points. The more things you do; the more points you get. At the end of the year your name will be put on the amount of tickets that matches your points. At the Christmas Party, ONE name will be drawn out of all of the tickets, and that person will receive a LARGE prize. (A fancy TV has been mentioned.) This Brownie Point system is to encourage attendance and participation. We discussed it; a motion was
