BIG BLUE CLUB SUPPORTING STUDENT-ATHLETES WITH SCHOLARSHIPS

Dear Monarch Fan, There has never been a better time to be a fan of Old Dominion Athletics. Our 16 athletic teams combined to post the highest winning percentage of all Virginia NCAA Division I institutions in 2007, marking the fourth time we have captured that honor in the past 10 years. Our success on the field has been a testament to how hard our athletes are working to become champions. In the past year we have celebrated the completion of the Folkes/Stevens Indoor Tennis Center, as well as renovations to the Soccer Complex and the Athletic Administration Building. We look forward, in 2009, to opening the Powhatan Sports Complex, the addition of the new wrestling facility, and beginning the renovation to the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. Our philosophy as a football program here at ODU is to Aim High in everything we do. Our goal is to build a championship program and within that goal we will strive to be the best people, students and athletes that we can be. I am a firm believer that good things happen to good people. We will aim to be great representatives of our families and the university. Head Football Coach Bobby Wilder In order to maintain and improve the success our teams have enjoyed, as well as continue our goal of providing student-athlete scholarships, we need your support. Our athletic program receives no funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia and we rely on gifts to the Big Blue Club to provide the scholarship dollars needed to recruit outstanding student-athletes. With the average annual cost of a full scholarship at $20,000 and more than 450 student-athletes now participating in our program, your support is crucial. Big Blue Club membership provides many benefits, including priority seating and parking. Most important, however, are the athletic and academic opportunities you are providing our student-athletes through your contributions. Thank you for your support and Go Monarchs!!! Welcome to the Big Blue Club. Alonzo Brandon Executive Director, ODUIF Jim Jarrett Athletic Director

I chose to attend ODU for several reasons. The academic reputation of the university was strong and I felt that I could be a successful student-athelete. The professor / student ratio was smaller than most schools and the support system in place for student-athletes made me very confident that my academic needs would be met. The Lady Monarch basketball team was a premier program nationally and I wanted to compete with the best for a National Championship, every year. Anne Donovan ( 83) Basketball Hall of Famer Head Coach USA Women s Basketball Olympic Squad I came to Old Dominion because I wanted to get a quality education and play basketball for an outstanding coaching staff. I was very impressed with the program, the university community and the surrounding Hampton Roads area. Who wouldn t want to play their collegiate career at the Constant Center. Gerald Lee Sophomore, Center / Forward Men s Basketball Uusikaupunki, Finland I chose ODU because I had the opportunity to earn a prestigious degree while competing for a Top 25 program that has a tradition that is second to none, a huge fan base and nationally televised games. Not only am I enjoying this experience in my home town, my family and friends are having the time of their life as well. Representing ODU is a dream come true! Jazzmin Walters Junior, Guard Women s Basketball Norfolk, Virginia I chose ODU because I felt it gave me an opportunity to get a great education and to become a better person on and off the golf course. I also saw a great chance to play golf for a top Division 1 program and such a great gentleman like Coach Rudisill. Eric Onesi Sophomore Men s Golf Bear, Delaware I didn t choose ODU, ODU chose me. They saw something in me that I didn t see in myself. At the time, I wasn t mature enough to be too far away from home and it offered me a great education, an at home feel, and was affordable to the average family. Once I enrolled, I found myself driven to be as successful as my peers that surrounded me. WAYNE GOMES ( 93) Former Major League Baseball Pitcher ODU Hall of Fame member
