Family Zone Monday - Thursday 5:00-8 :00pm Saturday 9:00-12:00pm The Cobourg YMCA Family Zone allows parents to workout or try a new class while their kids enjoy great youth programs. Ages 3-12yrs Children get to choose from any of the three activities during Family Zone hours. Family Zone is only available for YMCA Northumberland members only. Get Creative There s a little artist in each child waiting for an opportunity to express themselves. Children will have tons of fun in a variety of art and drama activities. Be Physical For the child who is interested in all sports and challenging team building initiatives. Emphasis will be placed on fun and fair play. Find Your Zen Kick back at the end of the day and enjoy reading a book, playing board games or listening to music with friends. Note: A parent or guardian must be in the building while kids are participating in Family Zone. Children can be dropped off anytime during family zone hours with staff at PlayCentre.

Train lika a Ninja 3-5 Ninjas in training will focus on developing strength, stamina, and agility in relays, games, team-building and weekly obstacle courses that change every week. Thursday 4:30-5:00pm Parkour 3-5 Use body movement to run, jump, climb, swing, and roll to negotiate fun obstacles while making your way through the challenging course each week. Tuesday 4:00-4:30pm Saturday 11:00-11:30am Dino Discovery 3-6 Come learn about our not so little friends with fun crafts and activities all related to dinosaurs. Thursday 4:00-4:30pm Saturday 10:30-11:00am Location: Cycle Studio Learn to Cook 4-5 Follow the secret recipe to become a Master Chef. With weekly mystery cooking challenges, a pinch of menu planning, and laughter to taste. Aspiring Chefs will enjoy their creations at the end of each class and create their own recipe book filled with delicious dishes. From creative crafts and ooey gooey science experiments to singing, and learning different musical instruments. Sign Language Club 8-15 Learn how to finger spell the alphabet and numbers as well as pick up useful signs related to meeting and greeting family members, colors and much more Thursday* 6:00-6:45pm *Every THIRD Thursday of the month Location: PlayCentre Aqua Adventure 8-12 Spend this session in the pool practicing various aquatic activities including water polo, swimming, synchro and underwater hockey. Children will grow more comfortable and confident in the pool while having fun. s must be able to pass the Swim Test. Tuesday 4:00-4:45pm Location: Pool Girl Empowerment 9-12 Join us to develop your creativity, build new friendships, and discuss topics related to girls. We will also have some special events and workshops starting at 8pm. No membership is required, but photo ID must be presented. Friday 7:00-9:00pm Location: Cobourg YMCA Cooking for Teens 11-14 Ready to venture into the kitchen on your own? Join us to experiment with the basics of healthy eating and food preparation as you discover how easy it is to cook by yourself. Create healthy entrées and more. Topics include communication, teamwork, problem solving, planning and organizing, health and fitness, philanthropy, group dynamics and volunteerism. Wednesday 6:00-7:30pm Location: Association Services (House) Sport Conditioning for Youth Teen Nights 13-15 Join other teens every Friday night for a night of fun! Take part in different activities at the YMCA or join us when we hit the road to take part in activities such as lazer tag and glow in the dark mini putt. Friday 7:00-9:00pm Location: Cobourg YMCA 11-15 Through various types of exercise including circuit training, plyometrics and agility drills, youth will improve their conditioning in areas such as speed, agility, endurance, strength,power, flexibility and core strength. Wednesday 5:15-6:00pm Friday 6:00-7:00pm Location: Studio Teen Strength 101 13+ This program allows participants to earn their shoe tags by learning the operation of cardio machines, pin-loaded resistance training machines, and free weights. Participants must complete the 4 components of training before receiving their shoe tag. The swim team builds self-esteem, confidence, sportsmanship and a strong sense of team. Our coaches will work on improving endurance while improving swimming skills. With a focus on teamwork and healthy competition, our program offers opportunities to participate in fun, friendly competitions with other swimmers. Non-members: $150 ($75 per day) Junior Lifeguard Club Junior Lifeguard club offers serious fun for kids eight years and up who can swim at least 25 meters and tread water for two minutes. Junior Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water. Our mission is to provide participants with the training and education so they can become one of the elite lifeguards at the YMCA. OUR SWIM LEVELS Splasher/Bubbler (6mo-3yrs) Caregiver assisting child program to develop comfort in the water, familiarity to environment and to promote water fun. Starfish/Duck/Sea Turtle (3-5yrs) Gaining comfort in the water, blowing bubbles with gradual facial immersion, front & back floats with assistance. Sea Otter Floater (3-5yrs) Must be comfortable entering and exiting the pool on their own, as well as putting their face in the water. To complete: child must be able to float on their front and back and swim 5m unassisted. Salamander Glider (3-5yrs) Must be able to float, swim 5m unassisted in shallow water. Must be comfortable beginning the transition from shallow to deep water with assistance. Sunfish Diver (3-5yrs) Comfort in deep water. To complete: 10m back and front swim with leg and arm action, as well as front and back float in deep water. Crocodile Surfer/Dipper (3-5yrs) Surfer Surface support for 30sec, front and back swim with arm action and flutter kick up to 15m, side breathing, face in with buoyant aid. Dipper Front and back swim 25m, intro to front and back crawl, standing dive, and surface support for 45 seconds. Whale Otter (6 yrs+) This level is for beginner swimmers. To complete: submerge, holding breath, front and back float unassisted, front and back swim 5m. Swim Kids 1 Seal (6 yrs+) Deep end activities on a more regular basis. Build endurance and stamina to proceed onto length swimming. To complete: surface support 20sec; front and back float in deep water unassisted; front and back swim 10m. Swim Kids 2 Dolphin (6 yrs+) Build endurance and stamina for length swimming and instruction. To complete: tread in deep water 45sec, front glide with kick, face in, sidebreathing 15m, front and back swim with arm and leg action 15m. Jump into deep water and swim 15m. Swim Kids 3 (6 yrs+) Introduction to length swimming. To complete: initial standard front crawl 25m; back swim 25m; tread water 60sec; jump into deep water and swim 50m. Swim Kids 10 To complete: recognition and care for bone/joint injuries; respiratory distress and asthma/anaphylaxis; create and deliver 3 fun activities for a stroke/ skill; 400m swim in under 12min.

Please review our aquatic guidlines to help YMCA Northumberland maintain the safety of all members, guests and staff. 0-5yrs Children 0-5 years must be accompanied in the water with a parent or guardian(16yrs+) at all times at a ratio of 1 guardian to 2 children regardless if they are able to pass the facility swim test or not. 6-9yrs Children 6-9 years of age who have not passed the facility swim test must be directly supervised by a parent or guardian(16yrs+) at all times at a ratio of 1 guardian to 2 children. If the children are wearing lifejackets the ratio may increase to 1 guardian to 4 children. 6-9yrs Children 6-9 years of age who can pass the facility swim test may swim on their own provided a parent or guardian(16yrs+)is supervising them from the pool deck. Adults may supervise a maximum of 4 children. 10yrs + Individuals 10+ years of age who are not able to pass the facility swimming test will be directed to swim in the pool area appropriate to their abilities. Facility Swim Test Participants must be able to swim without flotation devices of any kind, 25m with proper arm movement, their face in the water without stopping and without touching the bottom or sides of the pool. Participants of any age may be asked to perform a swim test.
