The week of If you can t participate this week because of holidays, teacher work days or other conflicts, you are still free to recognize NSLW Just choose a different week! 2014 Theme: Get in the Game with School Lunch Goal NSLW 2014: Promote the importance of eating well and getting active Message: Explain how good nutrition relates to physical activity and performance Low fat milk & yogurt help to build strong bones for lifting heavy objects Whole grain breads help to run faster on the basketball court Beans, poultry, fish & other proteins boost muscle power for favorite activities When should I start planning? Now is the time to get a jumpstart on your planning; gather your staff for a brainstorming session Find the approach that works best for you, your staff and students Tips for Success: Get students and teachers involved Decorate (try to use the sports and activities popular in your area; football or other school sports teams; NSLW 2014 falls in the middle of the playoffs for Major League Baseball) Keep parents in the loop Get the word out: Write about NSLW in the district/school newsletter, website or social media. Survey students on their favorite foods for energy. Serve the most popular during NSLW. 4. Make the cafeteria feel special with music, sports- themed decorations, guest servers on the line, or a raffle; staff members can dress up in costumes, uniforms or jerseys to embrace the sports theme! 6. Invite local athletes (high school or college) to attend lunch in uniform and eat with the kids 7. Invite parents to come to the cafeteria for lunch 8. Implement a school- wide contest (art, essays or trivia) promoting good nutrition and physical activities 9.
