2 Art Studio January 2018 Week of 1/1 & 1/8 Week of 1/15 & 1/22 Week of 1/29 Blow Painting with Liquid watercolors Pinecone Mobile (group project) Wire Sculptures Explore water color paint and non-standard painting methods Experiment with incorporating natural materials in artwork Experiment with 3D sculpture using malleable wire and other materials Materials liquid watercolors black ink or black markers/crayons droppers paper straws pinecones paint & brushes glitter/glitter glue string/yarn large dowel or stick Wire (easily bendable) or pipe cleaners air dry clay beads/charms and other embellishments Activities Apply liquid watercolors to paper using droppers or pipettes Using a straw, blow onto surface of wet paint to spread. Continue until desired artwork is completed. Allow to dry. After artwork is dry, use the same method with the black ink over the top of the colors. Or use black markers/ crayons. Distribute pinecones to be painted Glitter can be added before paint dries. If using glitter glue, allow paint to dry first. Once pinecones are dry, string them onto yarn or monofilament and hang from large dowel. Hang large dowel/ stick to allow pinecones to hang Create a heavy base with clay Poke ends of wire into clay Bend/manipulate wire to create 3D shapes Use beads or charms to embellish wires before adding to base. Children learn to Use materials and tools purposefully; experiment with visual media Work cooperatively and constructively with others Purposefully choose materials to achieve desired outcomes

4 Culinary Arts January 2018 Children will do cooking projects in the classroom using Bright Horizons recipe cards or other recipes that connect with projects within the classroom. Some recipes are not appropriate for all age groups. Some recipes may require substitutions for allergies. Recipes for this month: BH Recipe Fruit and Yogurt pops Special Recipe Mini pizza (See included recipe)
5 Sign Language January 2018 FRIEND The index fingers lock together. Then the hands flip over and the index fingers lock the other way. BOOK Two flat hands are held together, and then open. PLAY The Y hands are held at the sides and pivot back and forth at the wrists JUMP The inverted 2 action hand rests on the palm of the base hand. The action hand springs up as if jumping. RUN Both L hands are in front of the chest with the index finger of the rear hand linking to the thumb of the forward hand. Both hands move toward the body and the forward index finger bends. DANCE The 5 hand is held with the palm facing up. The inverted 2 hand swings back and forth over the base hand, as if dancing. from SIGN with your BABY ~ Dr. Joseph Garcia
6 Dance Class January 2018 Dance Moves Preschool Dancers will continue working across the floor. Begin remembering where dance spots are and staying in our windows while we dance. We will start learning our recital dances at the end of the month. Combining steps together: tendu and retiré.sauté and échappé Terminology Dance Moves Chassé: to glide Échappé: to escape Battement: to kick Kindergarten Prep Dancers will be put into their recital spots and remember where they are. Working on staying in our windows so everyone can be seen. We will start learning our recital dances at the end of the month. Continue tip toe turns across the floor, start doing arabesque sauté and chaînés turns with movements across the floor. Terminology Dance Moves Chaînés turns: means chains or links, you move together like a chain or link connected. Kindergarten Dancers will be put into their recital spots and remember where they are.
