Ma Bella Christa Near the 900m got its head up when overracing. By The Pound Near the 900m had to be steadied when tightened for room by Astrobelle (Jason Benbow) which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Jason Benbow was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future. Beaten favourite ($1.50). Performed below market expectations. Rider Billy Egan stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the event and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. He added that in his opinion the gelding will improve from todays second up run. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. Astrobelle Layed out under pressure in the straight. Rider Jason Benbow was fined $200 under the provisions of AR137(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times more than permitted prior to the 100m. Hellraiser Rider Jack Hill explained that from its good draw and after beginning quite well the gelding raced in a more forward position today. Race 2 tac plan now to get home later maiden plate - 975 metres: Little Miss Moppet Began awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted in and made contact with Bernara. Raced greenly under pressure in the straight and near the 200m when racing greenly shifted out abruptly. Mighty Storm Slow to begin then severely hampered and had to be checked when tightened for room between Northern Mist and Mallan No More both of which shifted ground after jumping away. Northern Mist Began awkwardly and shifted out.
Mallan No More Began awkwardly and shifted in. Hampered and taken in off its course near the 200m by Bernara (Patrick Holmes) which when laying in shifted in. Patrick Holmes was notified to make a greater effort to straighten his mount when in similar circumstances. Performed below market expectations. Rider Kassie Furness stated that in her opinion the mare is better suited with tracks with more give than todays. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. White Truffles Began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was hampered when bumped heavily by Bernara which had been taken in by Little Miss Moppet. Passing the 300m shifted out and was then hampered when bumped by Little Miss Moppet which was racing greenly at this point. Nicholson Street Layed out in the middle stages. Bernara In the straight hung in. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bounty Belle Held up for a clear run from the 300m to the 200m. Near the 100m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of Bernara which was hanging in. Lechter Raced wide for the majority of the event. Race 3 the bottle-o 3yo maiden plate - 1200 metres: St Franco Shifted out to obtain a run near the 200m and then was hampered when brushed by Honolulu Lass which had shifted in under pressure. Honolulu Lass Shifted in under pressure near the 200m making contact with St Franco and as a result became unbalanced. King Joey - Rounding the home turn near the 500m when laying out had to be steadied off the heels of Skilled Assassin after being taken out by Seas The Host which was bumped and taken out by Bliss Point which when racing close to the heels of other runners shifted out. Layed out throughout the event. Race 4 hygain maiden plate - 1600 metres: New Indian Rupee Connections advised it was the intention for the gelding to be ridden further back due to the step up in distance in an attempt to finish its race off if circumstances permitting. Restrained shortly after the start, settled in a rearward position. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Steel Caps Connections advised it was the intention for the gelding to be ridden with cover if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Settled in a worse than midfield position with cover. Overraced early and approaching the 1000m got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Gwillym when the pace slackened. The Jelly Man Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with its outside starting stall gate. Became unbalanced and lost ground. When the pace slackened passing the 1200m and again near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of other runners.
Mansplaining Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped heavily with Gwillym which had shifted in on jumping away. Overraced in the middle stages. Passing the 400m was hampered and had to be steadied when racing closely to the heels of Allaboutattitutde (Chelsea Hall) which shifted out when not fully clear. Chelsea Hall was notified to exercise far greater care when in similar circumstances. Performed below market expectations. Rider Billy Egan could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Gwillym (3 rd placegetter). Began awkwardly shifted in and bumped heavily with Mansplaining which shifted out. Rider Craig Robertson was fined the sum of $500 under the provisions of AR137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race. Yulong Xiong Hu After being caught wide early was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m. A Moving Place When the pace slackened near the 1000m had to be checked to avoid the heels of Allaboutattitude. Race 5 ladbrokes odds boost bm58 handicap - 2100 metres: Lichen Lad Acting on a report from the RV Veterinary Surgeon that the gelding had become cast in the stripping stall area and was unfit to start Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of Lichen Lad at 2.49pm. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. Rider Mark Pegus explained that the gelding was not suited by todays slow tempo and was carried wider on the course from the 600m
which was detrimental to the geldings chances today. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. King Of Rossa Performed below market expectations. Gave ground quickly over the concluding stages. Rider Patrick Holmes could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Seulamont Overraced in the middle stages. Peppa Approaching the 1000m made a mid race move when overracing and was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain the lead near the 800m. Cupids Roze Tactics queried. Settled in a midfield position. Rider Jason Benbow explained that he was instructed to ride forward with cover. After settling in a position behind the leader in the early stages he then settled further back due to that horse surrendering the lead. Race 6 murray downs golf & country club bm58 handicap - 1600 metres: Storm Approach Connections advised intentions to be ridden more forward than its most recent start if circumstances permit. After being caught wide early settled in a position outside the leader near the 1200m. Affectation Began extremely awkwardly, unbalancing its rider Craig Robertson. Overraced early. Approaching the 200m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of Storm Approach which shifted in. Rider Craig Robertson explained after being tightened for room at this point he elected to ease the gelding and shift to the outside of Storm Approach to obtain clear running, however acknowledged in hindsight he would have been better served persisting to the inside of Storm Approach which was straightened by its rider passing the 200m which would have enabled him to obtain a run to the inside of that gelding. A post Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Ingenious Slow to begin. Severely over raced in the middle stages. Solar Bravo Slow to begin. Dont Have To Yell Shortly after the start was hampered when tightened for room between Interlock and Run For Ryan which was taken in by Sea Lady. Run For Ryan Shortly after the start had to be steadied off the heels of Sea Lady which had shifted in and away from Koop Creek. Free Willy Over raced in the early stages getting its head up when being restrained by it its rider. Rider Chelsea MacFarlane was fined $500 under the provisions of AR137(5)(a)(ii) for using her whip seven times more than permitted prior to the 100m. Stewards took into account her poor record in this area. Solas (NZ) Raced wide in a midfield position early with cover before then being permitted to stride forward approaching the 1000m and settle outside the leader. Interlock When the pace slackened near the 1200m got its head up when being restrained.
Himeji Jo Performed below market expectations. Rider Dean Yendall explained in his opinion the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. The Darren Weir stable will be contacted in the ensuing days. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 7 swan hill bus lines bm58 handicap - 975 metres: Grey Strike Trainer Phil Sweeney was fined $50 for presenting the gelding in the mounting yard without blinkers, which is part of its approved gear. Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace in the early stages and approaching the 600m shifted out to avoid the heels of Vain Kingdom. As a result of this shifted out to a position extremely wide on the track. Special Feeling Slow to begin. Post race veterinary examination of Special Feeling identified the presence of blood at both nostrils. Trainer D Wills was notified that the gelding shall not without permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months thereafter; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. Reward With Return Passing the 800m was hampered when racing in restricted room between Red Almighty and Hes The Sherrif which was taken in by Time Square when that gelding shifted in and away slightly from What Girls Want. Passing the 400m taken in off its course by Hes The Sheriff. Harlem Star Approaching the 600m when overracing was taken out off its course slightly by Warrior Lady. Red Almighty Passing the 400m was severely hampered when tightened for room between What Girls Want and Reward With Return which was taken in by Hes The Sheriff (C MacFarlane) which shifted in whilst being ridden along. Chelsea MacFarlane pleaded guilty to a charge of careless under the provisions of AR137(a) the careless riding being passing the 400m she permitted her mount to shift in whilst riding it along when not sufficiently clear of Reward With Return that was taken in off its course onto Red Almighty tightening that geldings running resulting in it being severely hampered. Chelsea MacFarlanes licence to ride in races was suspended to commence at midnight May 26, 2017 at the conclusion of a suspension received in New South Wales, and to expire at midnight June 3, 2017. In assessing penalty Stewards deemed the incident to be in the low range and took into account Chelsea MacFarlanes guilty plea and record.
