SNOW VALLEY SKATING CLUB PARENT GUIDELINES 1. There must be at least one Club professional in attendance during each entire session. In extenuating circumstances two Executive Members at ice level may be used. 2. Please ensure that your child understands the responsibilities of a skater and the consequences of inappropriate behaviour by going over the Skaters Code of Conduct with him or her. 3. Family / friends are asked to watch from the bleachers or warm room NOT from the players boxes or from the gate area, as this is a major distraction to the skaters and coaches on the ice. 4. Please do not stand on the small ledge leaning over the glass in Tamitik. 5. Do not talk to your child from the stands or from the players bench, as this is disruptive to the coaches and skaters on the ice. If your child needs to talk to you or needs skates fixed they should ask to leave the ice and both you and your child should go to the dressing room. Please do not stay in the players box. 6. Make sure that your coach is aware that your child is going to be away on a given day or you may be charged for missed lessons. 7. All fees, whether to a coach or to the Club, must be paid up in full or your skater will not be considered in good standing, and this could jeopardize his/her skating season and competitions. If you have a concern about payments, contact your coach regarding private lessons, or the Club treasurer concerning Club fees. 8. If you have a concern or a question, or disagree with the actions of a coach, you must first deal with the coach directly. Only when this has taken place and no resolution has been reached will the Executive and/or the Club liaison become involved. All requests for resolution must be made in writing. 9. It is the role of the coach to intervene when conflict arises between skaters on the ice. In the event that the individuals are coached by different coaches, then both coaches will participate in the negotiation of a resolution. Coaches will contact the parents of the skaters involved. 10. **All skaters must be picked up at the end of their ice time. In the event that a parent is late, that parent will be charged a fee to pay a coach / executive member to stay with the child. The fee will be $8 for each 15 minutes or portion thereof, and must be paid to the treasurer before the skater s next session. Should this happen more than three times, you may be refunded a portion of the fees you paid and your child may no longer be allowed to skate. ** The Club s responsibility starts when the ice time starts, so skaters should not be dropped off too long before their ice time starts. My child is of High School age and thus I waive the SVSC Club liability and allow my child to be unsupervised (parent initial) REMEMBER THAT OUR SKATERS LEARN FROM US. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE PRESENTING A POSITIVE, SUPPORTIVE IMAGE AT THE ARENA. BE SUPPORTIVE OF ALL SKATERS, COACHES & VOLUNTEERS IN THE CLUB. I have read the Parent Guidelines and agree to abide by them. Parent/Guardian Name (Please Print) Parent/Guardian Signature Date:

SNOW VALLEY SKATING CLUB SKATERS CODE OF CONDUCT All skaters, parents and professionals are responsible for becoming familiar with this code of conduct. 1. The use of foul language is prohibited and will not be tolerated. 2. Food, beverages, candy or gum of any kind may not be consumed on the ice. Water bottles are the only thing allowed on the boards by the ice surface. 3. Avoid wearing anything which could become a danger to you or to other skaters (dangling earrings, long scarves, loose hair pins, wide-legged pants). Coaches need to see lines and techniques, therefore skaters should wear form-fitting clothing and no bulky or baggy sweat shorts or jackets. 4. Do not sit or climb on the boards. Do not stand around the ice, particularly in groups. 5. Music rules as laid out by the current Music Coordinator must be obeyed and adhered to by everyone. Only coaches can request music. 6. Practice thoughtfulness and courtesy. If you must rest, do so at the boards so that you don t interfere with other skaters. 7. Keep the dressing rooms, warm rooms and lobbies neat and tidy. 8. Wear skate guards whenever you are off the ice. 9. Be on time and participate in stroking sessions when they are offered. Let your coach know if you know that you are going to be late. 10. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND YOU! Watch for coaches giving lessons and move out of the way of skaters whose solos are being played. Do not follow another skater s solo. 11. Portable music devices and cell phones are not allowed on the ice. 12. If you must leave the ice surface for some reason, get permission from a coach. Try not to interrupt a coach s lesson unless it is necessary. 13. Approved pants can only be worn during early morning practices or during EXTREME cold snaps. 14. Skaters must respect direction from all coaches. Any professional coach may send a skater off the ice. These rules are for the protection and enjoyment of all participants. Consequences for not following these rules will be as follows: a. No warning will be given to a skater demonstrating inappropriate behaviour. The skater will be asked to leave the ice immediately. The skater s parent(s) and coach will be informed of the incident. b. A second offence will result in a suspension of two skating days, not including the day the skater was asked to leave the ice. c. Further offences will result in coach s bringing the situation before the Executive. Coaches will record any infractions by skaters. 1. BE TOLERANT! No one is perfect. If you find another skater is becoming a problem, speak to your coach about it. Don t gossip or be critical. 2. There will be no dancing during free skate and no free skate during dance, unless otherwise agreed upon by the Club and all coaches. 3. Please leave the ice immediately when resurfacing begins. 4. Whether your coach is present or not, you are expected to have the same behaviours and work habits at all times. 5. When representing SVSC at competitions or seminars, you are expected to adhere to these rules. 6. Skaters are not allowed to leave the arena without the permission of a Coach. I have read the Code of Conduct and agree to abide by it. Skater Name Skater Signature Date: Parent/Guardian Name Parent/Guardian Signature
