2014-2015 Westlake High School Varsity/Junior Varsity Volleyball Tryout Packet The Westlake Girls Volleyball Team are a team of dedicated female student-athletes who take pride in their school and are willing to make a maximum effort in both the classroom and on the volleyball court. Wearing the Lion uniform is a privilege, one that carries many responsibilities and rewards. Tryouts will be held on August 1, 2014 your opportunity to learn more about the philosophy and expectations of the Westlake Volleyball program and to make your best impressions on the Westlake High Volleyball coaching staff. Here s what you should know: Athletic Paperwork: You may attend tryouts ONLY after completing all paperwork required by the Fulton County school District, Westlake High School and the coaching staff. The forms required are: You must visit your healthcare provider and have him/her complete the Physical Examination form Complete the Westlake Emergency Procedures Form Complete the Athletic Participation and Insurance Form Complete Parent and Player Agreement When all paperwork is completed you will be able tryout on the designated day and time at Westlake High School. Volleyball Tryout Schedule Tryouts for the 2014 season will be held on Friday August 1, 2014 4-6:30pm. Please arrive 15 minutes prior so that you have time to properly prepare and ask any questions you may have.
Tryout Criteria: The evaluators will be looking for coachable athletes who have a great work ethic, love to compete, and want to learn to become better players and teammates. Prior to volleyball experience or skills helps but is not required. (Great volleyball players are not made just made better!) Prospective student-athletes will be tested and evaluated for their overall athletic ability and level of volleyball skill. The following criteria will apply (in this order) 1. ATTITUDE: Players who are positive, competitive and eager to learn. More points will be given to those who demonstrate strong leadership skills, ability work/communicate as a team (volleyball games do not last long with a team of one person) and to those who are willing to take risk and are unafraid to learn from their mistakes. 2. ATHELTIC ABILITY: Players with the ability to learn and perform complex skills. Volleyball puts a premium on explosiveness and rewards those who are unafraid to attack the ball. 3. POSITION: Players whose skills fit a specific need for the team s overall balance. WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRYOUTS: Expect to work hard. You will be asked to perform all physical testing drills at full speed. You should run when shagging balls, when moving from drill to drill and when going to and from water breaks. You will not sit down during tryouts, except during water breaks. Expect to improve your volleyball skills. At tryouts you will be taught and evaluated. Even if you are not selected to the team you will become a better volleyball player by the end of tryouts. Expect to enjoy yourself. Tryouts are a normal part of the Lion experience. Whether you are completing for a seat in the band, or a role in the school play or for a spot on the basketball team, you will have plenty of opportunity to show your stuff and try your best. We suggest you stay loose, make new friends, and decide that you will have a good time, no matter the end result.

The try-out results will be list on the team website on August 1, 2014 no later 8pm. In order to ensure that the athlete s uniform items come back prior to our first scheduled game we will NOT accept partial payments. If you have any concerns please see the coaching staff.

Westlake High School Volleyball Parent & Player Agreement This agreement between (player) and the WHS Volleyball Program states that the athlete will participate in the programs activities for the 2014-2015 volleyball season. The player and parent agree to pay all the appropriate fees, has read and understood the parent information provided by the WHS Volleyball Program and agrees to abide by it. The WHS Volleyball program agrees to honor all commitments and information given to the athlete with regards to coaches, practice, tournament and other services common to a volleyball team. The Westlake High School Volleyball Program will also be familiar with, and adhere to, the appropriate eligibility guidelines from the Georgia High School Sports Association.
