Principal Curtis will be hosting a series of student listening sessions during Pride on March 20 th, 22 nd, and 27 th in room 148. Please encourage students to sign up who may be interested in helping to define our school s direction as we move into the 2018-2019 school year.
CONCERT CHOIR AUDITIONS for 2018-19 School Year!!! Students that are NOT presently in Concert Choir will need to make arrangements with me to audition during PRIDE, LUNCH or afterschool on March 26, 27, or 28. Students should bring print music of a song that they are well prepared to sing to the audition. No recordings please. Mrs. Kauffeld will play the piano for the audition, thus the need for the print music. Students can sing a classical solo, hymn, folk song, patriotic piece, a section of a choir piece or another song of their choosing that showcases their vocal ability. Students will be evaluated on the performance of that piece, as well as rhythm reading and sight singing skills. There is nothing to prepare ahead of time for the rhythm reading or sight singing. If you have questions about the audition, please reach out to Mrs. Kauffeld.
Any boys who are interested in playing golf and missed last week s meeting should stop by Mr. Dahl s room in 319 to pick information about the upcoming season. This coming Sunday, March 18 th we will be having our final golf open gym from 7:00-8:15 in the field house. Anyone is welcome to come! Questions-please talk with Mr. Dahl.
It s Showcase time! Term 3 Showcase will take place on Friday, March 16 th, and is a chance to celebrate all of the talent that we have at OHS. Cost will be $1 per student and students must come down with their class/teacher.
World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness initiative that is held annually on March 21 st. The date is clever in that people with Down Syndrome have 3 copies of the 21 st chromosome. A few ideas to support World Down Syndrome Day: wear fun socks (brightly colored, mismatched, or even 3 socks), wear blue and yellow colors (colors designated for Down Syndrome), or help educate family and friends. The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City has released a video (Just Like You) explaining Down Syndrome that explains how children with Down Syndrome are more alike than different. Friday, March 23rd will be Club Picture Day for yearbook. All students involved in a club need to make sure they have their I.D with them during their clubs picture time. Schedules will be posted by the office and library as well as sent out via email. Make sure to check your clubs allotted time!
We are headed to the Lake Country Film Festival on Friday evening April 13th. 171 films have been submitted! This is incredible and unprecedented! We are in the process of viewing, sorting and assessing films. We are passionate about you and your ideas! Your films are a glimpse into who you are or what you are passionate about! Thank you for building stories the world has never seen! We invite you to attend the Lake Country Film Festival. You will benefit from seeing exemplar films created by you and your peers. This is a regional event. We received films from Milwaukee, Watertown, Upper Michigan, Chicago, West Bend, Franklin, Waukesha just to name a few... You will be notified later this month if your film has been selected to be shown in the Lake Country Film Festival. Regardless of this notification we want to thank you for your hard work, your passion, your excitement, and your willingness to share your vision with us! College & Career Symposium-March 14 th at OHS Greetings from the counselors at Oconomowoc High School. We would like to invite you and your son or daughter from the Junior Class of 2019 to our upcoming College and Career Symposium TODAY, Wednesday, March 14 th in the OAC. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a resource fair. Resource fair participants will include local business and industry partners, youth apprenticeship representatives, and military representatives. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from various representatives including the UW system-2 year and 4 year campuses, private colleges and universities, WI technical colleges and a coordinator for college transition for students with disabilities. There will be a wealth of information provided as well as a chance to ask questions. This is a great way to jump start the process of finding your options for life after high school. Oconomowoc Sailing team Practice starts Monday, March 19 th.
Mark your calendar: Prom 2018 will take place on SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2018 at the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. Ticket Sales and Table Selection: Tickets will cost $85 per student. The cost of each ticket includes post-prom. All ticket sales will be done on-line through Revtrak/Webstore, and all ticket orders must be made with a credit or debit card. Directions are attached to this message. Ticket sales begin on Monday, March 12 and will end on Monday, March 26. Refunds and exchanges are not accepted. In addition, we cannot allow for the purchasing of any tickets after March 26. When purchasing your ticket it is imperative that students properly enter their student ID number exactly as it appears on their ID card or INTERNAL ID on Skyward. Student IDs will be considered their ticket when they check in day of Prom. If you lost your ID please order a new one in the main office as soon as possible. Table sign-ups will run April 9 12th. Students should sign up for tables of 10. More information will be announced to the students as the date nears. Guests from Other Schools: Students wishing to bring a guest from another school must fill out the Guest Approval Form from the main office and submit the form for approval to their associate principal prior to Friday, March 23. We advise students not to purchase a ticket for a guest until your Associate Principal approves your request. Students wishing to bring students one year removed from high school must get permission from Principal Mr. Jason Curtis no later than Thursday, March 22.
PROM INFORMATION CONTINUED Grand March: The Grand March begins at 3:30PM at the OAC. Students will be asked to park their cars in the South Lot. Students will be transported back to the lot when they leave. Couples and friends will be introduced, and a picture will be taken. Please invite family and friends to come and celebrate! Students should plan to pack a change of clothes and check their luggage with the Post Prom volunteers who will then transport the luggage to the YMCA for Post-Prom. Students will be transported via coach bus from the Grand March to the Harley Davidson Museum. Buses will begin to load around 5:00PM. PLEASE NOTE: All students must ride on the Coach Bus to and from the Museum. Students may not drive separately or be driven to the event by someone else. PROM INFORMATION CONTINUED Dinner Dinner this year will be served as a plated meal. Meal choices will be made when purchasing the tickets online. Students with special dietary restrictions or needs should indicate that when purchasing their ticket. During table sign ups, any special meal requests should be confirmed with Student Council Advisors to assure proper meal requests. When the event ends at 11:30pm, all students will be transported to the Pabst Farms YMCA.
PROM INFORMATION CONTINUED Post Prom Post Prom is sponsored by the Oconomowoc High School PTO and will be held at the YMCA from 12:00AM-3:00am. A letter with more information is attached to this message. Students should bring a change of clothes for post-prom to the Grand March check in area. Students will give their bags to the Post Prom volunteers, and they will transport all luggage to the Oconomowoc YMCA. It is important to note that at Post-Prom, shuttles will begin transporting students from the YMCA back to the High School starting at 2am. PLEASE NOTE: Students must take the shuttle transportation back to the high school. Under no circumstance will students be allowed to move their cars to the YMCA, be picked up by a parent or walk home. Students not attending Prom can still come to post prom! Tickets can be purchased online through Revtrak/Webstore for $10. School Policies and Announcements: Female guests may bring a small purse in order to hold their IDs, phones or cameras. The Principal, Associate Principal or authorized police officer may conduct a search of students purse or jacket if there is reasonable suspicion to believe the student has in his/her possession an item which would endanger the health or safety of the school population. There is no reason to bring money. All events at prom and post-prom are included in the price of the ticket. We are not responsible for lost items.

The math department is having a math week this week March 12th-16th, for the day of Pi (March 14th). Each day there will be different math activities which you can win. By winning or getting answers right, you will receive tickets to have your name in a drawing for final prizes-which include 2 $50 Amazon gift cards, and smaller gift cards to local businesses. Activities include; a scavenger hunt, daily questions, pie decorating contest, and a Pi memorization contest. The OHS Epiphanes Club is currently looking for submissions to publish! All creative work will be reviewed and considered for publication. If you enjoy writing, photography, poetry, art or other forms of creativity this is your chance to show the community your talent! This year Oconomowoc High School's Students 4 Service Club is planning a school wide advocacy and fundraising campaign to benefit the American Cancer Society. Throughout this campaign, Students 4 Service will be coordinating monthly fundraisers all leading up to our BIG event, Relay for Life, on May 11th, 2018. Relay for Life is a team event that celebrates cancer survivors, and raises funds for the American Cancer Society research, education, prevention, advocacy and patient services. It is a fun, outdoor fundraising event where teams take turns walking or running around a track. To kick off our fundraising efforts, Students 4 Service will be selling purple fabric ribbons in honor and/or in memory of those affected by cancer. Ribbons will be sold during lunch for $1 (or by donation) through Friday, January 25th. Students and staff are encouraged to tie these ribbons on their backpack, lanyard or wrist to raise awareness and to paint our world purple (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctewlxoixcy). PARKING SIGN IN: A parking permit is required to park on school property. If you do not have a parking permit, you are allowed to park up to 5 times free during the 1 st Semester which ends January 18th and an additional 5 free times during the 2 nd Semester. You MUST sign in your vehicle when you arrive in the morning on the clipboard at the Switchboard/Main Office if you do not have a Permit.
