Hosting three free GC2018 events the Athletics Race Walk, Cycling Time Trial and Cycling Road Race you will be part of the most exciting sporting extravaganza has ever seen. During this time you will need to plan ahead, stay up-to-date and be prepared for road closures and changes to your usual travel habits. Find out what s happening in and around during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Be part of history The Commonwealth Games is a once-ina-lifetime opportunity to witness gold medal action from your front yard. It all starts and finishes at Beachfront, where the Race Walk competitors will complete laps of the Pacific Parade course and the Cycling Road events will begin, before riders wind through Waters, Elanora and Tallebudgera Valley and race back to the finish line. Create lasting memories with family and friends and be inspired by the athleticism on show. Free Official GC2018 Public Viewing Areas will feature entertainment and activities, including big screens, music, face painting, fun sporting events, food, coffee vans and more. Embrace the race! As local residents and businesses, you are literally part of the gold medal action. So let s celebrate! There are lots of ways to make the most of s free road events. Invite your friends and family around for the races, head to one of the Official GC2018 Public Viewing Areas, dress up in your favourite team s colours, decorate your house, or make signs and instruments to cheer the athletes on as they race for the finish line. How will your travel be affected? At various times roads in the area will be closed, traffic conditions altered and residential access affected. The City of Gold Coast has worked closely with GOLDOC, Queensland Police Service and the Department of Transport and Main Roads to ensure this event can be carried out safely while minimising inconvenience to local residents and businesses. The table below summarises these times which are shown in more detail throughout this brochure. Venue Build To keep Alley open to the public as long as possible, the venue will be built and decommissioned in phases. The below table outlines how Alley and Pacific Parade will be impacted throughout the venue build period. Please call 000 in case of an emergency. Vehicle access on the course will not be permitted. Public transport changes There will be a number of changes to bus services during all events. This includes: timetable changes route diversions temporary bus stop closures in, Waters and Elanora Pedestrian access Pedestrian access will be maintained along the course, so walking and cycling may be better options to access local areas.
