Introduction All Palm Beach County Reserve Battalion members who are certified by the State of Florida with a minimum of FF 1 may be eligible for approval for Combat assignment. Members seeking combat status are required to provide the following documents to Administration: - Current/valid Minimum Standards certificate as issued by the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training - DI4-1022 Medical Examination (must be renewed annually) - PBCFR Respirator Questionnaire - Respirator Approval Form 10112012 NOTE: Forms for the physical examination, HEPA mask fit test and SCBA mask test are available on line at www.fire-vols.org Upon completion, members may submit all necessary forms to Administration via the chain of command. Members who are missing forms, or who submit incomplete forms will be denied combat status until all forms are on file. Upon completion of forms, the member s shift Captain will review the member s status and submit a recommendation for combat approval to the Operations Chief, who will then determine whether the member may or may not be combat approved. Members denied combat status may request an explanation via the chain of command, and may submit an appeal to the Battalion Chief. The Battalion Chief will have the final authority for combat approval and/or may at any time deny combat status of any member for any reason. It is the intention of the PBCFR-Reserve Battalion to ensure all combat approved members operate safely and efficiently, in accordance with PBCFR standards. Therefore, upon approval for combat duty, members approved for combat duty after October 1, 2014, will be placed on a six month probation status for combat approval, during which time they will be required to complete and submit an original of this completed Combat s Check Off via the chain of command. Members previously approved for combat duty are exempt from completing this manual, but may at the discretion of the Battalion Chief may be removed from combat duty at any time for sufficient reason. This manual is divided into several sections, each of which must be signify the member has demonstrated adequate proficiency with each of the skills listed in each section, or category. Individual items may be signed off by station officers while riding on combat units, or by the (or designee) following training sessions or skill tests. When all items are complete, the book will be submitted through the chain of command for final approval, with each supervisor s approval as this check off proceeds up through the chain of command. The will provide the final review and approval. Once all signatures are attained and the final sign off from the is made, the member will be considered having completed probation. Members who do not receive all sign offs within six months of being approved for combat will be removed from combat status, and must return all assigned combat equipment until approval is obtained. If special circumstances arise within the six month period that prevent certain individual items to be properly signed off (e.g., lack of protocol classes), the member may retain combat status, pending signoff. In such cases, the will be notified of the reason for failure to be signed off in any area and will grant an extension to the probationary period.

SCBA 3 Demonstrates correct operational check procedure; ensures portable radio is donned; ensures air bottle is full; ensures SCBA is in service Properly dons SCBA within allotted time of one minute, nineteen seconds. Operation includes: - Opening bottle - Donning SCBA; adjusting straps - Donning face piece; adjusting straps - Donning protective hood, covering all exposed skin - Donning helmet with earflaps down and chinstrap adjusted - 10 second seal check - Placing regulator in face piece and locking - Donning gloves (time ends when gloved hands are clapped) Properly removes SCBA.
