3 Course Title Descrip on Prerequisites and/or Required Equipment Ladders & Ventilation Saturday or Sunday Ladders Emphasis on ladder safety. identifies types of ladders, Lists ladder safety rules, Demonstrate ladder lifts and carries, ladder placement, ladder raises, Proper climbing and working from ground ladders. Roof, attic and extension ladders will be used and provided. Ventilation All ventilation types will be addressed, The emphasis will be on instruction in Positive Pressure Ventilation. Class will define ventilation, List advantages of ventilation for rescue, attack, fire control, and suppression operations, List primary ventilation method used to prevent backdraft. building factors that aid in determining use of vertical/ horizontal ventilation. Special considerations associated with windowless buildings and basements. PPE Required Forcible Entry & Rescue Saturday or Sunday The Burden of Leadership Saturday Identifies forcible entry tools and explains how to use and maintain them. Shows how to do through-the-lock entry on different types of doors. Demonstrates various methods of forced entry through three types of doors and three types of windows. This class if for building a foundation for new Company Officers or Firefighters looking to promote in the next couple of years. There are two sides of a Company Officer, the Leadership side and the Management side. It takes the right leader to possess both trait to have a successful organization and a successful Company. The students will also leave the class with a list of expectations that they build based off of the long list of expectations we have provided and put together from many Company Officers in North Idaho. Required: Bring Full Personal Protective equipment including SCBA. The Art of Reading Smoke Sunday Often, smoke issuing from a building is the only clue available to predict fire behavior and the likelihood of a flashover or rapid fire spread. First-arriving officers, Incident Commanders, and Safety Officers MUST know how to rapidly read smoke this class explains the reading-smoke process
4 Course Title Descrip on Prerequisites and/or Fire Apparatus & Pump Maintenance Covers pump theory, pump component familiarization and operational checks, basic pump maintenance and fire scene Pumping procedures Required Equipment Rope Rescue Awareness This class is designed to give the student an awareness and basic skills for rope rescue at the low angle. This class covers identification of equipment and hardware, rope construction, knot tying, and low angle evacuation Firefighter Essentials SCBA &Personal Protective Equipment Fire Behavior and Control Hose Streams Mayday SCBA Presents the components, functions and safety features of SCBA and PPE. Limitations of the equipment are also presented. Proper methods of using and caring for equipment are presented. Environments that require SCBA use are reviewed and procedures for donning, doffing, inspecting, maintaining SCBAs and changing SCBA cylinders are presented. Class will include an exercises utilizing the Clearwater Fire Academy Confidence Trailer. The Trailer can be configured in a variety of ways to simulate actual fire fighting conditions. Fire Behavior and Control Emphasis on fire behavior and the phases a fire passes through as it grows, Includes tactics to attack and extinguish fires. Hose Streams Cover the Application of water or foam streams and using different stream patterns in fire fighting and Properties of water and foam. Mayday Identifies when and how and who should call a Mayday. Each person in class will bring PPE and The SCBA unit that they will normally be using during an emergency and a spare bottle Prerequisites: None Required: Full Personal Protective equipment including SCBA. PPE Required
5 Course Title Descrip on Prerequisites and/or Required Equipment Short Handed Fire Tactics Structure Arson The focus in this class will be initial company operations with low to moderate staffing and is almost all handson. We know that staffing plays a role in the tactics we deploy. This class takes an in depth look at search techniques and how to strategically search with short staffing. The class will focus on the most utilized fire ground operations endured with low staffing levels. We will tie it all together with a self-survival module, most importantly how to recognize and prevent injury/death on the fire ground (Hands on Training) Students should be in good physical condition. The primary purpose of this course is to provide a consistent knowledge and skill base for the Structure Fire Origin and Cause Determination along with collection and preservation of Evidence. The concepts taught in this course will help you in performing at acceptable levels. This class is offered to Officers and Interior Firefighters. Successful Completion of Firefighter Essentials Required Bring Full Personal Protective Equipment including SCBA and 1extra tank. Required S131/G131 Wildland Training for Structural Firefighters Designed to meet the training needs of the Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) and/or Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5). Topics include operational leadership, communications, LCES, and tactical decision-making. Identify position responsibilities and demonstrate the ability to apply principles of Operational Leadership found in the Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG), PMS 461. Describe how to incorporate and maintain open lines of communication with appropriate personnel. Identify Look Up, Down and Around indicators, and demonstrate the ability to apply the components of Lookouts, Communications, Escape Routes, and Safety Zones (LCES) as described in the IRPG. Demonstrate the ability to apply tactical decisionmaking procedures Safety Officer and Accountability 20 Hours Friday evening Examines the safety officer s role at emergency scenes. Response to all-hazard types of situations will be emphasized. Safety officer 16 hours Accountability 4 hours.
